I sometimes pop in to subsim.com's Silent Hunter III forum (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=182). It's interesting to see how it compares to this forum. There's some really interesting stuff about mods and modding and I've just had a quick flick through the screenshots thread there.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif I have to say that they mostly put ours to shame!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I saw some really nice photoshop-treated pictures in there too.

I have posted there once or twice, but mostly just go there as a 'lurker'. I'm not considering 'switching' as I prefer the variety of discussions here (and all of you wunderbar kaleuns of course http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ).

You could say that if this forum is your 'wife', then the subsim forum makes a good 'mistress'! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Come to think of it, I have seen a few posts over there by Brewster, HW3 and AvonLady. So does anyone else here 'play home and away' or 'bat for both teams'?? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sure! The mod workshop at subsim is much more active than the creatives section here! Plus you get a lot of response to mod work there! I rarely get comments about this here...

I move along between WaW Subsim and here. I also won their competition for best design, game cover for SHIV comp. and got a "special" edition of SHIII with dev. team autographs in the manual. I follow the modding world from there as they seem to be released there first. And yes the screenshot threads are great. But I visit both forums for diversity. Not "hardcoded" member of either...and well WaW is just about the only reason to sail out with SHIII anymore.

I do read the forum there from time to time, but have never contributed.
This one is my primary forum, and the Flotilla 52 forum.

I'm not a member 'over there' but look! whad'ya know!? Their Screenshot thread IS A STICKY!! D'YA HEAR THAT MODS? THEIRS IS A STICKY! How many times have I asked for this to be done? How out of date are our sticky's?

Wonder how many voting buttons THEY get to use mm?

Yes I am shouting, the support we get from this forum stinks sometimes.

I'm a member over there, too. I'm much more active over there. I tend to lurk more over here.

I think it's because the moderators of this forum don't come here anymore, and ubi apparently don't provide moderator status to other members! But they should!

Maybe we should make a thread, where anyone wanting to become a moderator can apply for support from members in here! The person(s) should be serious about it and should have support to do so from at least 5 members. Then ubi should be informed of the thread and the candidates for moderator status!

So anyone up for running for moderator?

Personally, I don't have time for it, because of mod work and personal stuff, but Wilhelm Schutz looks commited to the 100K/200K clubs and you RealJambo to the Screenshot competition, so why not you?

Well I am signing up for that forum.

Technically VikingGrandad is my referer but I don't know if you use the same username on the other forums?

They couldn't afford me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Seriously though, it does strike me that, apart from RedTerex, this whole forum has been left out to dry by the people who are happy to take our money when we buy their game.

I'll think on it, cheers Carotio.

Well as it happens, I asked RT about this a few weeks ago. He has put my name forward as someone who has shown interest in being a moderator, and he said I might hear something soon. I'll let you know if/when I get a response.

Whatever happens, forum members need more official presence and official respresentation.

I've said this before but it bears repeating:

The SH3 general forum is still number 7 in Ubi's forum chart with well over 140,000 posts!! This is outstanding when you consider, candidly, that SH3 is a buggy game that was released over a year ago, supposedly didn't sell in very high numbers and has received the bare minimum of official support, patches etc.

The members of this forum are true evangelists of SH3. The ongoing devotion we give to this forum has given the game an almost 'cult-classic' status. This commitment should be nurtured.

By the way, thanks for the responses to my original post. I'm not sure what I was expecting to find out, but one thing I do know - there is some serious modding talent over in the Subsim SH3 forum. I should check it more often.

I think this is a result in foresight of the original developers. They made the code adaptable for the Modders, so increasing the longevity of the game. This plus the excellent graphics and tactics of the game is a tribute to those original 'YOU'RE FIRED' developers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
