View Full Version : Are you a bomber or a fighter?

Personally I prefer to fly those bombing-planes in forgotten battles.
I like the "heavy" feeling a TB-3 gives me.
I dont think there are so many people playing forgotten battles who actually like to be a bomber, everyone goes for those small fighter-planes.

Bomber, without a doubt. I can't help but stall those fighters constantly. I'm finally getting semi-proficient with the bombsights. If there was a multi-engine plane other than a bomber, I'd probably dig that too.
edit: other than the Me262, that is. Props, I meant

Personally I haven't decided yet. Soo much fun busting tanks and AAA in a IL-2 but a furious furball is so immence too.

I like them both. On the scripted servers, I like flying what the majority of the rest aren't so as to maintain balance on our team. If I'm flying with a few squad mates, we'll switch between both and POUND their ground targets for a sortie or two then go to the fighters. Bob-n-weave. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Fighters in VOW.

I tend to fly Heinkels in DF servers though, nice to blast an enemy airfield and it's a beautiful crate to fly.

Jabo all the way. You get the best of both worlds. Blast some tanks then get some fighters on your way home. In Forgotten Wars I fly straight fighter often too, but never bombers, we got more qualified guys for that.

I like the heavy bombers, for some reason there more fun, i think its because with the bombers you can be more than one posistion so you get a feel of each of ther persons position and view, thats why i like the bombers. WE need more planes that have more than just a pilot

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

If there are a bunch of happy-go-lucky Sturmoviks or TB-3's around, I like to fly a Ju-87 G-1 so I can be a ground-buster and an aircraft buster all at the same time. Nothing like slow-moving enemy aircraft to engage with a 37mm AT gun. TB's do entertaining things when you whack them right at your convergence distance.

Otherwise, other than the occasional sortie in a 111 or other plane, I pretty much stick to 190's.

So I don't actually have a direct answer to the question, I guess. *grumbles*

I think this is a great post. I'm a confirmed MUDMOVER. I have been since the beginning with F-19 from Microprose. If need be I can DF,I get my share of DF kills, but that is not what I enjoy the most, bombing is.

What I find funny at times is to be flying with these self proclaimed online ACES. You know the type, have their cockx out hanging low all the time. It's great to see them get toasted by someone who is "considered" not as good. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And of course there is always an explanation for getting killed as well, never gracious or sporting enough to say good kill you got me eventhough everyone online just saw them get torn apart. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Yep those are moments that I really enjoy! Axis bombers almost exclusively

the only thing thats a little disappointing is the way bombs sometimes fail to release in he111 even though the bombrun looks good (lofte sight is set up correctly) it happens mostly on-line...it this a lag problem? any ideas?

I believe it's caused by changing bomb alt/speed setttings when the automation is on just prior to drop. Not sure though, there has been lots of rumours about it. One thing is for sure though, it's not working like it should /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

I'm a bomber pilot myself. I'm sort of a dedicated IL2 pilot. Although i do some level bombing in the Tb3 as well from time to time.
And for fun i fly fighter planes. I've been a 109 pilot for a long time and although i'm really crap in T&Bing (in any plane) i learnt to B&Z quite well (aiming is the only thing i'm good at).

In my squad i was the only pilot i was the only pilot not crashing into the ground when i tried to hit a tank or anything while they kicked my *** in DFs, that's when i decided to be a GA pilot /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

Planting bombs with a timer is real fun.

I also like to train to use missiles against bombers. There I prefer the P-47 with six rockets or Me-262 with 24 rockets (but you can't use a timer for them).
