I LOVE the green lasers of doom. Thats why I hate it when plane sets have either the 153P or 16 mod 24, but not the 153 Mod 62 or the 16 Mod 18

First plane I tried when I got FB 1.0, then tried I-16 my 2nd fave WW2 plane, but I thought I had to do CHAIKA first.

Of course I knew what these were, which is why I bought Oleg, my first WW2 sim.

I wondered why I was running out of fuel so fast on CHAIKA. It turned out to be the negative gee engine cutout. I never guessed The Sims would try this: bravo! That adds alot of challenge to hard manuevering and game bad weather turbulence.

The Chaika was the first thing I tried when I got FB V.1 too. There was a single mission where you fly from an island in the Gulf of Finland and hit some ground targets. At about the same time, you are intercepted by a flight of G.50's. Must have played that a hundered times. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

Ever since then, I find the I-153 and I-16 are the two aircraft that I always come back to. Shame on you Dark! Please don't tell me you haven't flown the Ishak either??

Actually Alpine Fighters in New Zealand had six restored and they apparently still have this one for sale ...

I-153 and I-16 were my first faves---I learned to virtually fly with them. Loved I-153 vs Buff brawls.

Oh I remember when I first started to fly IL2 online, before I even flew in a sqad. I used to fly servers listed on UBI's own game clint, where servers were predominately arcadish; all planes available with WW view.

Most people flew those crazy late war rides, but .. well beeing new to a sim not having thought too much about how to fly a certain plane accurately, they of course turned.. and turned .. and turned... a LOT, even in FW's and alike. To fly in a Chaika P version was like picking candy from a kid... my god how easy it was. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif A lot of whining going on on those servers "Hey, I fly a FW; there is no way in hell that you in a Chaika should be able to down me.... these FM are sooo wrong"... *lmao*

Later on when flying on more demanding servers, I most vividly remember;

Finnish server Virtual Pilots II where you flew chaikas against J8's... soo much fun; most of the time I flew the J8 against the Chaikas though.

Oh not to forget Baldie Jr's server; Chaika vs Chaika. You can't have more fun than that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

OR when six F19 members chased a 109 up into the stratosphere lol.. we did actually down him after 30 minutes; but one has to be patient http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Zeke vs Wildcat used to run a mission called "Tigers" where you flew p40's, 153's and I-16s against Ki-43's and Ki-27's..... This was really a favourite, unfortunately it is out of rotation these days. Too few enjoy early war rides I am afraid... but it was a really interesting plane set.

Chaika rox!

even if you don't have a long relationship with the game, the recent machuria add-on is also a good historical outset for this bird http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i have got a QMB training mission with it also, primarily for situational awareness in turn fighting - 2 Cr.42s vs my I-153 (with green laser only http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

Its a great little fighter. There's allot of planes in IL-2 that are like that...ignored for a while and then turn out to be real gems to fly. I-153 is so much fun as a aerobatic aircraft if nothing else.
