Rightly or wrongly, the flop of the movie "Flyboys" will put a big damper on any WWI-related products of any kind.

Check the link. There is a WW1 sim in the works...based on the Il2 engine no less.

I see the link has already been posted, so I'll just say "I do!". There's just something... something... SOMETHING about flying aircraft that creak when you pull the stick.

I've waited for seemingly eons for a WWI sim done right. KoTS looks to be a good one and I'm greatly looking forward to it. They're releasing weekly updates like 1:C used to do and things are looking quite good.

I still have my Red Baron II discs but just can't bring myself to install them...While it was excellent for its day, I'd rather wait.

It's not based on the IL-2 engine anymore, at least that's what I remember reading over at the official site.

With you there. Can't wait for KOTS, hope I don't put too much expectation on it.

Yeah, you can count my vote!

I'm 'making do' with Over Flanders Fields at the moment and apart from the fact that OFF is a commendable effort in itself, it also means I actually have a real use for CFS3......

But still hanging out for someone to do a really good free-standing WW1 sim. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I'm unsure how the failure of a poorly publicised film effects the status of WWI flight sims already in progress

It can't help.

As for whether Flyboys is a flop, it may be a great movie, for all I know, but it's a $60 million film that made $6 million on its opening weekend.

It may do great overseas business, though. "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Superman" both had their bacon saved by good revenues internationally.

Gennadich is not the only company with a WWI flight sim in the works---Third Wire has one, too:

The Manfred vR film will possibly be more successful at generating WWI interest.

Hey, no-one NEEDS sodding flight sims, pilots possibly excepted! Would be fun to HAVE one though, because these things are great fun... HTH http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I would LOVE another good WW1 flight sim. I owuld rather fly WW1 Sopwiths and Fokkers than some of the boring stuff in WW2 like early Japanese/Singapore campaigns.

Targetware has a quite good one, Richthofens Skies, and its free http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Has anyone tried that targetware sim? Is the engine any good? It looks pretty nice.

I flew around in Richthofens skies on my own and it was great fun, but there werent any other players on there.

Was cool.

Strange having no trim at all. When you get to high speeds, the plane is flying up , up up and the only way to stop it is to push forward the stick! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah it seems good. Wish I had tried the combat tho, I cant comment on that.

So Targetware set the rigging for low speed flight?

WWI planes were trimmed. It was just not changeable. It was through wing and tail warping.
The people who did that were called riggers. And a fighter would be rigged for combat speed
or near that.
