View Full Version : Insanity at Scapa Flow --lots o pics--

Im not even gonna bother to write a story for this...ill just make little comments on the pictures......words cant even describe..this was the most fun i have ever had in a game...and strangely i only sunk 1 ship.

Okay where to start....well...there were a lot of destoryers docked at scapa flow that day...unfortuanlly a accidental return to course order at the exact wrong time..brought them all down on me in 20 meters of water at most.

The sharks begin their hunt! Im being pinged to hello and back chance of getting away silently 0.

wahaha they know where i am but cant catch me! im immortal! I proceed to cause traffic problems.

They aint got nothing on me!

ohhh so close..try again....i was hoping they would depth charge themselves..lol.

uh oh..im surrounded...(im that little tiny speck you see in the middle haha)

This would have been a great thing to explain to top brass how 3 british ships all collide head on.

The AI thanks god for emergency instant reverse.

*SCREEEEEECH* *God aweful loud inhuman noise* AHHH!!! its the noise people talked about when you hit sub nets! I quickly turn off the speakers and shivver....only to look up to see this...

I think i might be taking damage...lol

This poor guy happened to be in the way of all the shells you didnt see in that screen that shot long..lol =) The cat and mouse games continue...meanwhile in other news two ships blow their depth charge racks off and procced to do nothing but try to ram me.

This guy lost his rudder and prop after ramming me on a run. I find it amazing most of the time I am more afraid of being rammed then the charges themselves. He strangely comes to a stop near poor guy (which does not sink..he will come back later)

One of them finally gets a perfect strike on me (4 hours later! yes i been trying seriously to escape for 4 hours)

Nice hits on just one pass. Fix men fix! lol

yes...id say heavy flooding indeed, but im not about to quit even with half the boat sunk and the other half...well...

Anything under normal speed and i sink to the bottom...anything normal and above and this happens....well...flank speed i guess since it wont matter haha.

Greed for the kill saves me here. (believe it or not, 8 ships attack me...only 3 are left now, and 2 are stuck from all the traffic problems earlier...i sunk one with just a random shot from the stern tube just for kicks cause i knew it was bound to hit one of them haha 2 are immoblized one from ramming one from friendly fire)

After 5 hours of this i decide im bored with this and just go straight hoping one will kill me finally. instead i get a nice boost from one as it runs me over...i use that burst in speed...22 knots under water weeeeee to race one...he still won =(

taking the screenshot above i hear a burst of fire...my top half came out of the water! the race winner takes 2 rounds in the gut! More british sharpshooting!

and hes outta there..not sunk..but not moving either, looks like the command room took a direct hit and obviously the ship looks little front heavy...ha. the shooter slinks away silently. (2 left..and notice the shooter lost is depth charge racks =))

Hey look its poor guy! and way in the distance was the other poor guy to get hit from friendly fire...okay im bored now...im just gonna ram him and be done with it...its a race with the ship behind me! I cant help but think of jaws with my front half up out the water haha.

We have impact!! there is no prop guy he gets front row seats...scapa flow is littered right now with immoblized, burning, half sunk or half blown up destroyers...including half sunk me..lol)

Of course 8 knots ramming only brought my hull integrity to 2%...so now im below poorguy1, who didnt sink either..just listed a bit more..and i have 2 boats circling me..1 with no depth charge racks, another good to go...but maybe out of charges because i know one of the 2 VWs left at the time of poorguy2 havent dropped charges when they could. Anyways...this is were i saved the game because it was 5 and a half hours of the best fun ive ever had...i only have credit for one kill..but im more curious to see if i can actually get outta this alive..AND make it back to germany...lol right now my back end sinks so low that it drags in shallow water but with full power it stays afloat, getting out of scapa flow maybe the hardest part because its shallow near the exits..plus..i still need to get around those 2 ships AND any door guards...lol Hopefully i can pull this off tomorrow with a half sunk ship.

Oh that was a great laugh, seems like you had a ton of fun, i know i would have, that looks so awesome.

You should have launched a torpedo while you were on that one destroyer with your nose in the air, that woulda been great!

I got caught in Scapa and survived, Killed all the destroyers and corvettes that came after me.
Here is how to survive:-
head in to the shallow water at the edge of the area, and run parallel to it, so your bow and stern tubes can fire along the beach. If you are lucky the destroyers will either beach or stop. Both easy prey for shallow set torpedoes. The corvettes will try to ram you, but will go in full reverse as they near the waters edge, so be prepared to go full reverse or flank speed forward to avoid them. Then they just stop and you can dispatch them too. I sank three V&W's and two flowers. Patched up on the surface, recharged batteries and away at 13m, back home in time for coffee and knackwurst (sp?)

Twisted, I believe you have to be able to see what your shooting at, with the periccope, in order to launch a torpedo.

Or have I missed something? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif If so, please let me in on your secret.

07-11-2005, 07:53 AM
No, I don't think so...just open the door and shoot...the tdc will go on bearings that the periscope is at...trust me, I have accidentally hit the enter key a number of times...it works!

One question...why not just sit on the bottom and repair the boat?

Remind me of an old Sam Kinneson routine:

"... What !? You're not leaving yet are you?!? MY HEAD'S STILL ON MY TORSO!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The nose of the u-boat looks like the fin from "Jaws". They are going to need a bigger boat!

Actually, the subnet noise itself isn't the problem, it's when it's played for no apparant reason really loud and hella distortedly.

I haven't checked... but hitting subnets probably produces the normal scraping sound of

Collision_Antisubmarinenet_ext.wav or whatever it's called.

Anyway, **** that's a good story http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Reminds me of the time I thought I was done for. I was getting depth charged a good bit and was flooding so I figured "**** it, I'm dead, I'll just surface..." so I blow ballast and my sub goes like this / http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

The best part was all the oil and **** leaking from my sub http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I ended up getting the flooding under control to my amazement and I got away fine... except my deck gun was smashed http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif and there was a cool black scorch mark on my aft section...

Probably the most fun I've had in SHIII yet. More fun than getting the **** scared out of me near ports and barely being able to play the game for fear of jumping out the window.

Excellent! That must have been a glorious day!

This...and CPT Smetlack(SP) (und 'Socko') keep my heart going at work...

Is that a deck chair I see on your bow??

Further proof that the AI in this game borders on the ludicrous ...
