Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to notice it or if I'm wrong or not, but doesn't it seem wierd that Altair is the only assassin with the missing finger? I know it's suposed to be for the blade to come through as well as an initiation into his assassin sect but...well...

...I noticed it when Altair and the other two assassin's were talking at the beginning of the game. You know, when malak still had both arms? The other two still had theirs.

Giovanni hasn't had his amputated and Al mualim has all of his as far as I can tell.

Sorry If this has been created before.

Al Mualim is Management and doesn't perform field work. As for the others, I'd assume fingercutting is something only the most dedicated and skilled require.

Alternatively, the model designers were hoping noone would notice...

I think the model designers just hoped no one would notice.

Also, Corey May has stated there will be explainations to many things, including the use of poison and the missing ring finger schtick.

yeah, I know he was a templar, but I'm saying that he must've been an assassin first and they SAID it was required to do that to get into the sect. Plus he would have had to start off as an assassin before moving up in the ranks. He even told Atair at the end of the game of how much he fought when he waas younger. If it was only for the highranking assassin, they should have said so and even compared it.

lmao, the thing on the designer forgetting sounds about right

Al Maulim wasn't a Templar. He just wanted control. And even if he was "management", he would have had to have risen in the ranks, which means at some point he would have been a field Assassin, which means his finger would have been amputated. It's a plot hole that's really only explained by character modeling.

As for Giovanni, the Renaissance Assassins and Templars are much more underground organizations as each group perished historically not long after the Crusades. So the "hardcore" traditions such as the finger amputation seem to have been dropped.

And it was confirmed that Lucy was just folding down her finger in AC1. Check an IGN developer blog written by AC's lead writer.

I don't know if this is a legit source (it's a Wiki), but on the spoiler part of Al Mualim's profile thingamajig it say's he's a Templar. Actually, I'll just let you read it.

I think Giovanni and Ezio don't have their finger amputated because the technology between the Crusades and the Renaissance increased. I think Patrice said something about it in one of the videos.

Here's a link to the blog by Corey May: http://blogs.ign.com/UbiAssass...d/2009/11/06/131896/ (http://blogs.ign.com/UbiAssassinsCreed/2009/11/06/131896/)

Not Ezio, just the father. They said that giovanni used the same Hidden Blade as Altair. And I think Al mualim wouldn't count since he basically betrayed them in the harshest of manners.

I can get why giovanni didn't do the finger thing. I'm just saying that it wasn't required to do it and it was a mishap in the design and a hole in the plot. You sure Corey said something about the finger thing as well? I know I heard him talk about the poison thing though.

giovanni is not a proper assassin hes the leader of the mercenaries http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif so he probably won't have a hidden blade http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

because Giovanni is a very visible member of the court of Medici,as well as an Italian noble and Florentine statesmen, he probably has a very public side to his life as well and going around with a missing ring finger has probably been hammered down as a tell tale sign of the order.

Plus again the tech, the blades look different, as though they are no longer set in the same way, and I have seen them twist in the trailers so, my guess is the blades have been improved, much like bayonets, whihc when they first became where just plugs and corks, than they had swicth bayonets, that would cut your fingers when you went to reload, than they had socket bayonets which where off the center and had a swivvel nut.

same idea, plus you get to keep your finger which is always a plus.

also Giovanni was married, so it'd be a bit silly to cut off his finger! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif But yeah , the orriginal assassins weren't allowed to marry, so it may have been symbolic as well.

As for only altair having a finger missing, it might not have been a mistake. He was a novice at one point after all.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Altair: *just got his hidden blade* ooo! What does this do?
Al Mualim: Altair no! Don't clench youre-
Altair: AAAAAAOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Al Mualim:.... Fist..... *headpalm*

in one for the dev dairies for ac1 jade raymond says that cutting of your finger was a ritual to get you into the assassin's order (or something like that)http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
