yep...never really cared for warbirds or fighter ace style games......something about monthly pay to play that turns me off..... I'd pass because of that.

I'd agree, but the site says it's designed for single play with an online capability.

I never played Warbirds, and an online-only game would not appeal to me. But this does look sorta interesting.

If it's better than IL2/FB, I'll play it. I don't mind monthly fees if the game is good. Monthly fees is the future. Tons of AC in the sky, and your stats are recorded. It would have to be pretty darn good though, and I doubt it would be better than FB but who knows.

Chimp:-
I'm looking forward to this one. Unlike some of the posters in this thread, I read all the articles and it's a free-standing game using the WarbirdsIII game engine only. You don't have to play it online at all, but that looks like a good idea.

Nice screenies, reasonable min. requirements, and, they claim, realistic flight models.

If it's not $80.00 I'll read the reviews first, then buy it if they're good. Can't beat the BoB scenario for CFS's.

The massive multiplayer sims are often more realistic--it seems more like a real war is going on. Games like IL-2 have had (at least up to the moment) better graphics and flight models, but the small scale of the online fights is less realistic and in a lot of ways less fun.

In massive multiplayer, bombing runs are actually critical and airfields and territory can be captured. In the height of action, you can be just one of dozens or even hundreds of planes in the theatre at the moment.

Also, you are not dogfighting the same few players online over and over again like in IL-2, CFS, etc. In massive multiplayer, you never know who you are up against, only what type of plane. This is far more realistic. Even with icons turned off, it doesn't take long to figure out who's who in the small online environments like IL-2.

There also tend to be more dogfights at altitude in MM.

Yeah, paying monthly hurts, but you are getting a few things that small online environments can't offer.
