Pretty good stuff. Norwood airport, Norwood, Massachusetts, USA. The B-24 is the only one flying. The B-17G was painted to represent "Nine O Nine"

Pics are in my Dad's camera. Will post when I can.

I beleive they are also there tomorrow and Monday, fly-out is on Monday at least

That would be Diamond Lil IIRC. Saw her and FiFi at LVIA a few years back....

I think it's probably "Dragon and His Tail" as her and "Nine-o-nine" usually tour together as they belong to the Collins Foundation. Actually she was supposed to be repainted as "Witchcraft" I believe, to honour the 8th.

"Fifi" and "Diamond Lil" are part of the CAF IIRC.

That makes at least 2 so someone is confused. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I heard there was a 3rd in Florida at the Fantasy of Flight museum. Anyone know if that one is still flying?

And proud of it.

Honestly, there are bound to be plenty of old wrecks scattered across Europe. Nobody's saying you can't team together to rebuild a classic warbird.

Im 18 doing my Alevels, that pretty much restricts me to my town lol would like to do such a project like that though when im older and have some cash and time. Id like to bring german warbirds back to life, they are so rare!

there are 3 B-24s that are flyable, but I think Withcraft (formerly dragon and his tail) of the collings foundation may be the only one that actually is. the CAF B24 (acthually a liberator 1 that is the 24th plane off the line wiht round cowlings) was pressed into us service as a C-87. It had some pretty bad corrosion damage i think, but will be restored. i photographed it extensively over the yrs at several shows.

The one in Fla belongs to Kermit Weeks magnificent museum in lakeland fla. It was david tallichet's B-24J and is nearly a complete plane. I think Kermit is doing a total restoration. It flew into our local airport on the delivery flight for fuel, but i only saw it as it flew over....i nearly ran off the road trying to park so i could see it. He also has the only flying sundeland and mosquito, though the mossie doesnt fly much anymore since its so valuable.

The collings foundation changes the paintjob of the B24 occaisionally. its od now.this si the 3rd incarnation of that plane.

so there are 3 flyable ones, but i think only 1 is actually flying currently. At least one more is being restored by tom riley in kissimee fla i believe.

How about teaming together and getting, say, a wrecked P-39 from Russia? That would be a risky undertaking, of course, but still...

I'm going to my Dad's in a few hours. I'll burn the pics there

I was told by the crew that the B-24 was the only one flying. Could the other one be grounded?

The Dragon and His Tail was the paint job the B-24 had last year. The real Dragon and His Tail flew in the PTO. The Collings Foundation Painted it "Witchcraft" over last winter to honor the real one that flew in the ETO. Same plane, only one left flying in the world as of today.

Didn't someone drag one out of a lake in South Carolina recently?....

it is the only one currently flying, but dont let that mislead you that there are no more airworthy.....the other 2 i mentioned above are undergoing extensive restoration to keep them in the air, so there should be 3 once again at some point.

Thanks Enforcer. When the B-17 and B-24 came to Beverly Ma airport last year My wife and I donated the $1000 to the Collings Foundation which intitled us each to a flight and my name painted on the bomb bay doors and membership to the "Distinguished Flying Command" plus I feel I helped keep these warbirds in the air.
