Newbie here, im going to be getting IL2 1946 soon and I want to know a couple of things about the game. First off, what campaigns are there and how long do they last? And second of all, do your action in a campaign affect the campaign later on, so for example, you are tasked to destroy a bomber force and if you fail that task, they come back and bomb your/an airfield later on? Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

campaigns last a long time. For example I am flying a German 109 in southern Russia and have completed 8 missions. I started November 28th and I am now on December first. So its at least a mission if not two a day. Keep in mind its 1941 and the war goes until march of 1945!

Also you can have a small effect on your local area. But the Russians have millions of planes and they always make more! Your gonna love this sim!

Also there are to many campaigns to list but out of the box you have at least one for most nations

Wow great, sounds awesome, also when you start as the Germans, do you start from 1939? Or would that be Poland? Assuming you can play as them.

Like said Freiwillige , there are more than enough missions and campaigns for you to be busy for about a year , providing you fly everyday .

But IMHO , the real interest of the game is online where you get to fly coops (and even campaigns ) against humans rather than AI , which adds to the immersion , especially if you join a squad that suits you .If you like bombers/ground attack a/c over fighters , there are campaigns too .

The focus of the sim is on the eastern front , so if you are a western front fan , the choice of map is quite limited , and you do not get all the aircraft that fought on the pacific theater for instance , but the modding community is working on improving these aspects .

There is a Polish plane in the sim , P-11 , i don't remember if there is a Poland map , but if you fly with the Luftwaffe , i think the campaign starts in June 22th 1941 , Operation Barbarossa . Battle of France (the real "Forgotten Battle" ) and Battle of Britain are not represented in the vanilla game

Welcome here panza2.
Did I hear you say "cheap"? The game itself is cheap nowadays but when you get hooked to it, it all starts...
A set of rudder pedals, better joystick, headtracking device, another graphic card. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Heh, i have an ATTACK 3 joystick from Logitech and a decent nvidia 6600 graphics card, i got hooked by this game from the demo, which i still play. But im not too hardcore so i think i might skip on the headtracking device and rudder pedals.

I have an ATTACK 3 stick also but according many simmers it is not such a good one but I don't have any complaints actually.
My graphics card used to be a NVidia 6600 like yours but after seeing some nice IL2 graphics on YouTube and at the HighRez Screenshot thread I got myself a 7600GS. But that one got overheated so now I have a 8600GT and it looks so much better. Not to mention the increase of fps.

When i bought my joystick 3 months ago i was actually browsing for video cards and RAM, i didnt buy it though, also i have no idea how to install a graphics card, so for the moment im sticking with my 6600.

Hey, wellcome to the club.

I can't tell you much about campaigns, but I'd like to encourage you to try various online modes. It's very immersive to be flying with other human pilots on TeamSpeak against another group of human pilots. Cooperative missions with like 16 players on each side are the ultimate experience of this sim in my opinion.

Hi! You can get user-made campaigns on various websites, Mission4Today is a good place to look. There are a lot of campaigns so it's useful to ask here for recommendations.

Welcome panza to the BEST gaming community out there. If you find that you are in need of building your piloting and gunnery skills before starting your campaign then you may wish to check out the link in my signature. If you only like German planes there is instructions in the package on how to change the planes.

Again, welcome aboard.
