View Full Version : Totally OT: Anyone knows chemistry?

Hey all, did a chem lab today, but i am confused about a question. I got an answer with a procedure that makes sense (to me), but everyone's answers were different. I have a picture of what I did.

So, we have 1 mL p-phenitidine and 1.6 mL of acetic anhydride.

Density of phenitidine is 1.06 g/mL and anhydride is 1.08 g/mL

Find which one is the limiting reagent, and knowing that, calculate theoretical yield.

Here is what I got, circled. I am wondering why it is different from everyone else's...

You used C8-H11-N for the chemical formula of Phenetidine and it is C8-H11-0-N (you forgot the oxygen atom)!!!

Furthermore, i just saw that you used in your calculation 1.5ml of acetic anhydride and in your problem description at the beginning of your mail, you said that you have 1.6ml of it!!!

Otherwise, your procedure was ok!!!

Oops. This, people, is why we never do chem at 11 pm :S
