So what's your personal favourite top 3 of U-boats?

(Maybe interesting info for people that are in doubt whether or not to upgrade. And create a small list of that. So if everyone shares its opinion.)

Any why?

For me it is :

1 : Type XXI
2 : Type IXB
3 : Type VIIB

1 : Type XXI because its an absolute "Uber" boat. Combined with a Zaunkonig it can kill everything especially Destroyers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
2 : Type IXB because of its sheer size and its formidable speed. (after an engine upgrade.) And its large amount of torpedo's.
3 : Type VIIB because it can handle everything throughout the war its a david that hits hard!

You've pretty much described 3 out of the 4 U-Boat types http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I haven't played much with the XXI...the one time I did I sucked so bad because I had no idea how to use any of the torpedos....I'm a T1 type guy...none of this "guidance" **** http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I really enjoyed my time with the VIIB, and I just started my second patrol with the IXB (leaving Lorient as we speak....only 1x time compression there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

I actually really enjoyed using the Type II-A at the beginning of the war. It's simple and sucky...but it's so satisfying to go out and get a few kills with only your 5 torps http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I actually meant including the subtypes such as the VIIC etc etc.

You should try the XXI with a Zaunkonig I. Take a simple mission such as Marvik (totally unrealistic with this boat but just as an example.)

Aim for a destroyer and see what happens.(Follow the torp externally you most likley will be amazed.) (Make sure you have selected the Torp with the red head named Zaunkonig I!)

we should try what's your favorite uboat instead http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i won't vote for the type XXI, because it is in a category of its own, too advanced for its time..
in my experience thus far, i'd say the typeVIIB, she's well balanced for any situation and comes early in the war.

At the moment im using a type IXC. I like it, its fast, and best of all its got massive fuel and torp reserves. Dive speeds are a problem though- seeing a destroyer come out of the fog is somehow not as scary in a Type VII http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif . But the BdU keep sending me to the East coast of the US (1942-so probably drumbeat) which means weeks of sailing on 1/3rd engine power, and never meeting any targets of interest. Yesterday i was chasing a "task force" for ages, but it turned out to be a convoy. This was ok, but i wanted to attack a Battleship or a Carrier, not a tanker (or three). Oh well, 40,000 tons from one attack aint too bad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I just wish i'd be sent on shorter missions, where i can stay on patrol for almost a month, instead of being in transit for most of the time. Thats what i got the type IX for.

I was using the IXC but just recently upgraded to IXD2,slow dive time other than that i love it. I like the long patrols and if you plan it out along the merchant routes its not too bad.
