Got this email from my Dad.

"These pics came from a guy in AZ. Yes, the mule killed the mountain lion. The lion had been stalking them for the better part of the morning, on the way out to a hunt. They were pretty sure it was after one of the dogs. The cat ambushed them, and the mule pictured tossed its rider and went into attack (defense) mode, the horses scattered and shots were fired but no one was sure if they hit the cat or not. Unfortunately, it wasn't until it was almost over that one of the guys started snapping pics. The mule finally stomped the cougar to death after biting and throwing it around like a rag doll. The dogs wouldn't even come close until the mule settled down.

The cat was still alive here and trying to fight back

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/Arklight/image002.jpg
The mule stomped the cat then pinned it to the ground and bit the heck out of the dead cat several more times.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/Arklight/image003.jpg
The cat was pretty much dead by now then mule picked up the cat again whipped it into the air again then stomped the dead cat again for good measure!

Note the dog audience.... Gives new meaning to the phrase "BAD A$$"....

****, who needs a gun. I hope kids don't decide to carry mules in their backpacks.

Man, I would hate my kid to come across this thread with no sort of warning. It's not exactly 'G'-rated. Off topic and in poor taste if you ask me, but then again, maybe I'm too sensitive.

First of all this "lion" is just a cougar. Second, it was shot and killed, and third the dumb *** mule decided to have a taste.

Pretty obvious, don't you think?

Maybe you are too much of a ***! I can't believe you even have kids. Saying you are sensitive is a complete UNDERSTATEMENT in regards to this "g" rated post--get REAL you baby. And so what if it is "off-topic". What are you the forum police?

Actually, you can see it fighting back in the first pic. With reagrds to the "lion" bit...it is a mountain lion. Pretty sure it isn't a cougar since mountain lions are somewhat prevelant in Arizona. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Horses/mules don't attack dead animals. I used to date a chick who was a horse trainer.

I guess you would hate to have your kid come across the Discovery channel, PBS, and NOVA as well.

JUST a Cougar !
They are serious contenders and very vicious predators, I would not like to come across one in the wild thats for sure.
The Cougar was not verified as getting shot and killed, thats still an open verdict..unles of course you were there to witness it.
Mules ar not so dumb either, they will actually stand still and work out the threat before reacting which indicates a power of reasoning ie intelligence...other animals panic and run blind at the first sign of danger.
So NO its not pretty obvious but I would agree that a lot is 'left open' for debate.

Also images of animals getting killed may be distressing to very younger members of this forum as there is no age limit present for it.
So a warning would have been appropriate for any such youngsters who may have opened this thread expecting to see a feature on a U-boat or similar related and not the death of an animal.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a cougar, it is a mountain lion. I guess the orginal creator of the letter figured people would know that they didn't mean "African lion" since they are in Arizona. lol

Mountain lions are pretty prevelant in Arizona. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also, it is pretty easy to see the mountian lion fighting back in the first pic. His paws are rigid and his mouth is open. His mouth is closed in later pics.

You're right.

Another, "will my system run this game" or "when is it coming out" thread would be much more suitable.

The thread is OT, hence the OT at the beginning of the thread title. It is nice to have some variation in my 2nd home. lol

That really doens't mean a hill of beans.

Anybody who ever grew up watching the Discovery channel, NOVA, etc.. knows that.

The mule should attack mainly with his hands, not with his mouth. At least, is what I've experienced with horses -and I've an experience of about 15 years with them!

I don't want to say that those pics are fake, but it looks very strange to me, to say the least.

Apparently, those pics were not taken at the beginning of the fight but somehwere towards the middle-end.

Cool pictures! But i would also say they were fake. In my humble opinion its already dead in the first picture (blood in the mouth) as its flopping around like a dead thing, not fighting back.

Also what is the third appendage? I can see 2 front legs swinging and something else which has swung up the cats body. I wouldnt believe a donkey would dare fight a cat, if it did, i doubt it would be able to get hold of a live one by the tail! But stranger things have happened. Its interesting that it has even picked up a dead one lol

That's the thing. Why would a mule pick up a dead mountain lion?

That doesn't make any sense. lol

It's interesting how the dogs in the background are just sittin' there watching the action go on.... hunting dogs are usually pretty active from what I've seen on deer hunts.

Not much blood either from what I can see, which is somewhat surprising to me. Seems like no offensive or defensive wounds on either animal, which again is surprising to me.

Anyways... any idea what they were huntin' for, Ark? Out of curiosity

Not sure what they were hunting for. If I could see the rifle/shotgun I would have a better idea. That's another thing that sparked my interest. It is tough to see but it looks like the rifle/shotgun is still holstered on the horses saddle (the buckle is still fastened).

I'm not sure if the hunting dogs would rush in if a horse and a mountain lion were flipping around. Maybe a mountain lion alone, but a horse and a mountain lion going at it would probably cause the dogs to hold off a little.

It is certainly an interesting set of pics. I'm not sure where they are from, my Dad sent them to me and I'm not sure where he got them.

They don't bleed everywhere all the time when killed, sometimes there's not a drop of blood, just open wounds.

Lol, starting trouble eh Beery? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Man, you really set that kid off. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I wouldn't mind my kids (if I had any at my young age) seeing something like that. It's nature, not gratuitous violence.

I'd say nice pics, but they aren't really. Interesting pics.

Where'd you get it( I want it=) )?

Interesting that it didn't draw any ire but the donkey/cat pics did...

Let's clear up a few things here:

1) It isn't all that amazing, or unusual, for horses and mules to attack things smaller than they are, even big cats.

2) JG27_Arklight: Mountain lions and cougars are the same animal-Felis concolor-also known as a catamount, panther or puma.

A friend of mine has a horse property just 30 miles from Salt Lake City, and they have a fairly serious 'kitty' problem. One of his horses has tried several times (with no luck so far) to stomp mountain lions. Usually the cats are smart enough-and fast enough-to run away when a horse charges him.

This is also one of the reasons we hate gun-control laws here.

Sailor Steve-now a Utah mountain man.

Good reply Steve

I was about to post something similar. I grew up in MT and Moutain Lions are something you dont F#$K with....they will stalk and kill you if you are not watching out. Their main prey is....elk....and if you have ever watched a documentry you would see these things taking down an animal three times it's size. Very bad kitty! The dogs arent dumb...they need numnbers to survive against such an animal. Dogs used to dissapear where I grew up in MT being easy prey to cougars. The jacka$$ is just reacting on instinct...much the same if a Grizzly bear showed up (they would take off most likely). Pretty awesome to see that caught on camera
