I've seen a lot of discussion about this new release, and no one seems to know much about it. Does anyone have any updates as to when we're going to see the final product? Thanks!!

Nobody really knows which makes it so ridicules.

Then people get angry about it which makes it just sad.

I have seen secret government stuff with more information than this. I am just hoping (fingers crossed) that whatever is going into BoB is so revolutionary that UBI is doing everything in its power to keep it confidential for as long as possible. I have always said that we will be amazed at what BoB will deliver, more than we expected. I just hope that this is one of those times where I am right.

Don't get your hopes up too much.

It's going to be a game with improved physics and graphics, but that's probably about it.

Which I'm happy with and am not really expecting more. The idea is that improved physics and graphics = improved gameplay.

it'll be more, it'll be an ideology, a way of living!!! sigh, it'll be the next best thing since leotards!

is it just me or these "where is BoB, what about BoB, any news of BoB" threads appearing more and more...the people are restless...no Oleg, we will not eat cake!!!

I'm with Choctaw on this. I believe the SoW engine'll blow our socks off and while I'd love to see some updates it can take as long as it needs to.

I've got my own theory about SoW:BoB and it ain't pretty.

In one of the recent Oleg interview, the interviewer said that he "was amazed at the level that SOW addressed the criticism's of IL2"....so what areas of IL2 were ever critised?....lets see AI, sound, what else http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

... high altitude flight model, complex lighting system with self-shadowing, accurate damage model, damage degrading internal structure, chance of exploding ammo-packs, a working collision model, no more StarWars-tracers, 100 planes + visible at one time, up to date graphics, scaleable viewdistances to eliminate building and smoke pop-up, resolution-indepent visibility system, working fuelgauges on all planes and simulation of different tanks and their weight (not just weight of fuel as a whole), 6DOF, Modability combined with secured internet-files, Spider-Sense AI, working ingame-coms, complex startup and engine management, 2D-layered forests, correct modeling of cockpits (taking into account physical effects like the breaking of light to eliminate the good old FW190 bar), ...

I think BOB will be fine,i give Oleg every credit.
The only thing that worrys me is the sound.
I have to admit it,i'm absolutely in love with the merlin sound,it's music to me,it makes my heart beat like nothing else.
So i hope that Oleg will get closer to the true enginesound this time.
I have seen several clips on the net where the original sound was replaced with the true enginesound and i just loved it.
I don't care haw long i have to waite for BOB,if only the sound would be right !!!

Well, gamebased weathering effects are cool, but that was not on top of the wishlist for BoB. When it comes to skinning, another feature is though: Kill markings.

That game based weathering effect is an interesting one and makes lots of sense in terms of campaign gaming where we're in the same crate for multiple missions, but I wonder if maybe such a consideration doesn't also anticipate some sort of campaign based engineering schedule, where you fly an aircraft between 200 hour checks and if you push the engine hard at hour 160 it's going to tolerate it differently to you riding it hard when it's at hour 45?

Personally, I think IL2 is great right now. But among the things I'm anticipating when BoB does come along, is improved general terrain and ground objects (trees, guns, tanks, cars, trains, that stuff), manning the flak guns, and some more cockpit modeling stuff, and hopefully fuel tank selectors and stuff. IL2 is still great fun though. At least we can be entertained until SoW does come along. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok, let's see. After having a furios combat, you land at your airfield and taxi to your parking place to see the ground crew running with ammo belts and driving a fuel truck to refuel your aircraft for the next sortie.

While you're sitting in the cockpit, you see your buddy from another flight trying to land his damaged Spit, but fails. Debris fly trough the firelball and a firetruck, accompanied by an ambulance rushes to the crash site.

In the meantime, an evil 110 takes advantage of the mess on your airfield (another your friend, who is manning the 40-mm AA, also stares at the crash) dives towards your refueling site just to see the little men on the ground jumping out of the vehicles and running at all sides seconds before your Spit and a few surrounding trucks turn itno yet another fireball... \:\)

So, during that absolutely ordinary DF mission in SoW:BoB (described above), would you like to see a blocky IL-2 vehicles and charecters with blurred textures, or you would prefer a "cinematographic" picture quality?

I'd go for the second.

PS. For a change, how about London trip in your British roadster car? Or do you prefer some Panzers for that? ;\)

I'll take a high quality "flying part" with great ai and air graphics over a low quality ai,nice looking aircraft and pretty eye level eye candy..

I can get that in MSFS products already.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif Oleg said top quality computers running on perfect setting now will go to medium and low settings in SOW..

The funny thing is, this quote does not say that this is in the game or even intended to be.

It was just an example for somebody who said that eyecandy is less important than a sophisticated flightmodel.

Oh, Vladimir told it, so it must be true... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I will be more than happy if SOW is ever released. Future doesn't look bright for PC simulation. I hope that if they don't comment anything is because they can't or don't want to, and not because there's nothing to say.

I prefer not to set my expectations too high, for many people around here don't cope well with frustration.

The only thing I'm sure is: if they ever make it, it's gonna be great.

Also, is there multicore support?

I totally agree that without the proper Merlin song this sim will stumble at the first hurdle for me. Doesn't mean I wouldn't buy it because I fully expect the visuals to be a major step forward and I don't doubt the flying experience will be all we hope for, but you wouldn't be happy driving a Formula 1 car in a racing sim if it sounded like a cheap family saloon so for full immersion the sounds have to be spot on.
I'd love to be able to mod IL2's sound files just so I could hear that wondrous sound accompanying my Spit or Hurri - I confess I often fire up the game just to observe my flight in external or continuous flyby modes, simply admiring the view. If only the audio could match the visual experience . . .
What's equally sad (in my wife's view - and she's probably right))is I've tried playing recordings of airshow flybys to match the on-screen visuals in a desperate attempt at creating the right effects - I know, I need to get out more . . . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

People already have high expectations. The publisher keeps the development so secret that it seems paranoid orm aybe they thing it is so good it can`t be shown.IMO the devs already spilled so much positive gossip that they can be easily called a "big mouth".Any big mouth should know that if he can`t stand up to his words should prepare for a special type of beating.

This is just my opinion, but I think that SOW:BoB will indeed be the be all and end all of combat flight simulation for the decade after it is released.

And it will be released, have no fear of that.
