I've finally been bitten by the jet bug so can anyone recommend a good jet sim?

Even better does anyone know of a good jet sim which has a free demo to download (i'd rather see if i like it first, of course)?

The only one i know of is LOMAC - is it easy to customise settings like in IL2? Does it have tutorials for n00b pilots?

Or maybe there is a better sim/game to get??? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Thanks!

Well, the only reall alternative I can think of is Lock On indeed. There are quite a few mods out there, as well as tutorials. There is a huge active fanbase as well, and their productline is not at a stop as of yet, with Black Shark and some other goodies in the making. I'd check it out first.

The Strike Fighter series by Thirdwire is pretty good. The systems are fairly simple but the graphics are nice and there is a huge community creating mods, missions and campaigns. Better yet, it works well on older systems. Have fun.

Try Wings over Israel. Very fun with a good plane mix. May not be super-realistic to the point that Lock-On is but honestly it is pretty close IMO.

depends on what you are looking for. there are two contenders imo, lomac and f4-allied force.

different beasts with very partisan opinions.
f4 is very complex in 'switchology' on 'full' settings but has a dynamic campaign generator which is still the best ever made (imho). graphics are basic (it's an old sim) and the flight modelling also shows it's age.

lomac has more uptodate graphics and flight models are better and you get a choice of planes to fly. can need a fairly good computer to switch on all the eye candy.

both have strong fanbases and should be relatively cheap. hotas is a very big plus for both http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif
both also have 'community made addons'

I am going to try LOMAC this week after finding it on sale locally, I am excited.

I am just wondering if it is considered one of the "better" or "best" fighter sims out there? i.e is it the IL-2 of the jet fighter world?

I know "best" is a subjective word, but I don't want to waste time playing the CFSs of the jet fighter sim world http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (I hope this doesn't offend any CFS fans..)

To expand on some of the Lock-On posts, best to buy Lock-On Gold which contains both Lock-On Modern Air combat and Lock-On Flaming Cliffs (an all inclusive package like 1946).

99% of the Lock-On community run with LOFC (1.1) patched to 1.12b.

The SF/WoV/WoE/WoI series is an excellent start.

Might want to checkout this site...

Yes, don't forget about StarForce. I got LO:FC and it ate my DVD drive. Never going to install FC again because of StarForce. Basic LOMAC is OK though.
