Yeah... it took me two nights to make it running.

So, for all of you who wants to run IL-2 dedicated server on your LAN or whatever without having to connect to Ubi - here it goes. There is emulator of Ubi "game service router" which is needed to launch server without connecting to Ubi; and a launcher for IL-2 itself that makes it think that it was launched by Game Service. Detailed information on how to do that is at

http://wildhoney.nightmail.ru/il2fb/

Thanks to all. I wonder why UbiSoft forced us to go such a hard way for just playing their games.

P.S. Drop me a note if you got it running.

Very well done i must say. I got your apps, followed instructions and it worked like a charm. Server started, and i connected using your launcher http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Very nice indeed. Now all we need is this incorperated into some form of listing service so people can see what servers are up and running and join them.

Again, job well done.

Well, HL does a fine job, KALI maybe too.
So all we need is a module which "talks" with HL and sends/forwards a status-report of the FB-server.

Yes. I really doubt that we need an "alternate listing service". HL really does its job. I'll need to get in touch with people who develop HL... it would be great to provide a complete solution for running FB servers.

@ Wildhoney, Excellent !!!

This is really good news!

Agree, no additional listing service, just talk to Jiri, so your code could be incorporated into HL.

Yup itworks, great great news.

Also posting on behalf of Louis King that runs the servers for us.
How do we change the settings on it remotely. Is it possible.

We have SRM software but that doesnt run as it looks for the normal game exe files.
Maybe they can be renamed or sumthing, dunno.

All we really need to be able to do is maybe change a map or 2 and the time of day.
The console for some reason wont allow us to change the difficulty settings.

What file do we need to replace so that the dotrange settings are changed as well, if this can not be done remotely.

Lotsa questions I know lol, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I got mine running just now but can only join it from internal IP 192.168.1.100 I can not join it from my outside Ip like I can my Teamspeak server.

I did play on one this morning before I went to bed with Petergull he had is running FBDameion and it work real sweat. But he had to run so I wasn't able to quiz him too much. Besides He is from Sweden and I am from Missouri USA Hillbilly that is. And there is a slight communication gap in our two understandings of the English language. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif But he said I was a help to his understanding of the critter and how it works. I'm glad I was still on his msn from when he was helping bernie with FBDameion.

Also like the others above I am at a loss on how to change maps. As for as DOT range I think that can still be done with RCU file. But not sure haven't tested it yet.

Not entirely sure what you mean Toad, but players have to use the FBLuancher to join the game.
Fire up the launcher, put in the server ip and then make a name and pass. Then it works like a charm. If you are running it on the same machine, Im not to sure of that.

Done all that, And it is on a seperate machine. I see Hunter below is having problems using his external IP too. It may be a router thing. I will find out tommorrow if anyone is able to join it from outside of my LAN. Aslong as I can get in from the internal Ip I'll be ok.

Well, getting it to work with multihomed systems may be uneasy.

Check your settings. Do not forget to run il2setup.exe and select correct IP address on the "Network" tab.

BTW, it is possible to make server listening for connections on many IP addresses. Maybe this will help you.

About routers/firewalls... I tried to launch it over a NAT and it worked for me. So, if your router is able to forward UDP traffic, it should work. Note that behind a NAT you'll have to play with IP address setting in il2setup.exe - in different configurations there may be different settings.

Many people asked me whether it is possible to remotely administer IL-2 FB server. The answer is - yes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(Although UbiSoft provided us with tool called "il2sconsole.exe", it seems that this tool is of no use because it simply does not work. At least for me).

So, I have written another "remote console tool" that is available to download from

http://wildhoney.nightmail.ru/il2fb/il2cons.zip

On the original page - http://wildhoney.nightmail.ru/il2fb - there's a new section, "remote administration", with detailed instructions how to use this tool. In short words:

Edit your confs.ini file and set "localHost=" in [Net] section to your IP address. Set "IP=" in [Console] section to some port value (UbiSoft likes IP=20000). Launch your server. Then start il2cons.exe with your server IP and that console port as a parameters. It should workhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A-ha.. Sometimes (i could not figure out when) it does not allow you to select IP address. Then, take a look at "conf.ini" file in game (not server) folder and find there a line saying "localHost=something" in [NET] section. Put your IP address here. Launch the game. Maybe this will help.

Host/Server and Client have to be the same version.
The Dedicated Server v1.11 only works with IL-2 Forgotten Battles v1.11, it can't be used with IL-2 Sturmovik v1.2.

If the "Login:" field in FBLauncher.exe is left empty, you get the "unknown user" error message. Just type your callsign into the textbox.

Sorry Nero we use SRM but its not on a dedicated server...

We were looking foward to hosting some lag free games with the DED.exe release but when it was restricted to UBI that ruined that Idea.

I used to be able to host @ UBI before 1.11 but now I cant even host a regular server there so I cant test the dedicated exe either (@UBI) I have my firewall & router setup corectaly I can Host on HL N/P but UBI No go.

Im starting to see a ray of sunlight tho in these posts hopefully between Jiri & Wildhoney and maybe a few more Haxors we will have some resembalance of a dedicated server
that will host on any application (IE: HL Allseeingeye gamespy UBI Kali) My fear is that because of the present dificulty level & everything Involved to set up a dedicated server People are going to move away from it and we are going to see less Dedicated servers than what could have been achivied if UBI would have just allowed C1 to release a NORMAL ded.exe for the community.

Im glad to see that someone has the talent to get this thing going in the right direction I just hope it ends up in a more simplifyed state when its all said & done.

Im going to DL the ded.exe overnight and start trying to do what Wildhoney has suggested...

Keep up the good work!!!

Here is a suggested solution which has no impact to Hyperlobby, no changes to the HL-Code required, only FBLauncher.exe needs to be modified so it could read the launching parameters from HL.

Required changes to FBLauncher.exe are:
+ no GUI
+ reading and analysing the parameters HL is passing when launching the IL-2 Client program.
+ By some naming convention FBLauncher.exe could determine whether it is a normal host or a dedicated server and in turn could launch the IL-2 Client in the appropriate way.

Scenario:
On the server CPU HL points to "emu.exe" so the emu is started when registering the server at HL. Slightly modified "launch.bat" is started manually afterwards and launches the server.

On the client CPU HL points to a modified FBLauncher.exe which in turn launches the IL-2 Client in the appropriate way.

In more detail:

On the server CPU:

1. Copy the files "emu.exe" and "launch.bat" from ubiemu.zip into the "IL2 FB Dedicated Server" folder.
2. Remove the "start emu.exe" command from "launch.bat", as emu.exe will be called from Hyperlobby.
3. Rename "emu.exe" to "il2fb.exe" (as HL prohibits the use of any other name).
4. Let HL point to "il2fb.exe" (the renamed "emu.exe") within the "IL2 FB Dedicated Server" folder by shift-ctrl-clicking the "Connect" button in HL. Type the path to "il2fb.exe" e.g. "C:\Program files\Ubi Soft\IL2 FB Dedicated Server\il2fb.exe" and click "Save".

5. In Hyperlobby do the usual steps to setup and start a Dogfight host. When starting the Dogfight Host HL now launches "il2fb.exe" (remember, the renamed "emu.exe").
6. Double-Click "launch.bat to actually start the Dedicated Server.

Server is up now and running and registered in HL. To start the server the next time only steps 5-6 are necessary.

On the Client CPU:
Right now the FBLauncher.exe is not designed to handle the HL parameters, so you need to fill out the required fields manually. However, you can get the IP of the Dedicated Server when trying to join the Server via HL pointing to IL-2 Client. When you will get an error message hit the Windows button and open the conf.ini file in the "IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" folder. The entry remoteHost= will show the IP-address of the Dedicated Server. In order to connect to the Dedicated Server, return to IL-2 and quit the game. Then start FBLauncher.exe and type in the IP-address and your callsign and click "Launch" to join the server. Not elegantly, but works.

With a modified FBLauncher.exe the scenario could be:
1. Rename "FBLauncher.exe" to "il2fb.exe" (as HL prohibits the use of any other name).
2. Let HL point to "il2fb.exe" (the renamed "FBLauncher.exe") by shift-ctrl-clicking the "Connect" button in HL. Type the path to "il2fb.exe" e.g. "C:\Program files\FBLauncher\il2fb.exe" and click "Save".

3. In Hyperlobby do the usual steps to join a Dogfight host. When joining the Dogfight Host HL now launches "il2fb.exe" (remember, the renamed and modified "FBLauncher.exe"), which in turn launches the IL-2 FB Client program.

To join the server the next time only step 3 is necessary.

Improvements:
If Hyperlobby wouldn't be as restrictive regarding the il2fb.exe file name, all the above renaming could be avoided.

As you can see, there is NO need to make a new USGS emulation for HL, as this is already done by Wildhoney, actually no changes in HL are necessary, if FBLauncher.exe would use the parameters the HL-Client is passing to the installed IL-2 FB client program. And by using some naming convention FBLauncher.exe would have the required information to launch the IL-2 Client in the appropriate way.

Ok, I got the server up and running.

Just two questions.

Is there anyway to make it run as a service in NT/XP. This would be very awesome if it is possible.

Second, I can't figure this Console thing out. I connect, but before I can do anything, it says "quiting" then boots me back to command prompt....

TinMan

Service? Service? Service http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This would be the best if I could set it up to run as a service on a computer at work....mega bandwidth.....Thanks

wow!!!

I'm in, ok, now I just need to figure out how to work the console...can you change maps? I'll have to find out.

Is there a "good" readme out there with all the functions possible with the console program?

Now, all this needs is to be able to run as a service and I'll be set....

WOW!!

This is awesome. I've figured out the remote console. I just wish it was a Graphics interface style, but I can deal with the dos prompt style.

Now, if only it could be run as a service. Is there anyway to add and take away a password remotely? I want to run it on a computer at a differnt location that I won't have access to all the time and sometimes I'll want to have private games, and others I won't care if people come in VIA the all seeing eye or what ever.

Do the people wanting to join HAVE to have the FBLauncher and UBI gaming on their computer?

TinMan

BTW - thanks for the good work.

Heh, try "srvany" tool.. or wait a little http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i was already thinking about running it as NT service. It is really cool to type "net start il2fb", hehe http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

- anyway to add and take away a password remotely?

Server does not check any passwords http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I'll think what we can do about it (a sort of little proxy, maybe, or something more advanced... there are some ideas to try out).

For now, yes. In fact, the only part of UBI GS that is needed is the DLL named "GSClientSP.DLL", but there are some registry values as well. Be patient. A better solution is coming http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok I have a slight problem and I'm sure its my fault.

When I click on the console icon it flashes a dos screen for a milisecond and it dissapears on me. Same with the FB exes in the server folder. I know very little about DOS so I'm sure its me screwing up.

any advise appreciated.

Hmm, maybe Jiri just adds another room in HL, one that points to the FBLauncher.exe. Then Wildhoney could use the params that were passed.

Would be better, because otherwise one would have to replace the orig-il2fb.exe with the laucher or vice versa everytime you switch froma "normal" host to a dedicated ot the other way around.

With 2 rooms this problem would be solved the easiest way i think...What do you think?

Oh, and thanks again to wildhoney for taking the time to set it all up!

Again, I believe that there is no need for any modification to HL, the only additional piece which will be required for Clients is a modified FBLauncher, see

"HyperLobby Online System Forum Index -> IL-2 Sturmovik / Forgotten battles -> FB Dedicated server & HL"
http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=467

Having different rooms wouldn't help either, also for some reason Jiri is not willing to support/emulate Ubi's Game Service.

The modified FBLauncher will be able to determine, whether it is a normal host oder a dedicated server and launch IL-2 FB in the appropriate way.

Hmm, I somehow dont understand. The last post I saw was the one from Wildhoney. From what I saw, nothing was cleared up concerning the ded-server-hack from wildhoney in conjuction with the HL.

Jiri doesnt have to emulate the gameservice. That would have to be done by the individual server, just as it is now with the wildhoney-hack.

If the launcher can determine if it is a ded server or normal host, then it would be easy enough. I'm just worried to cause too much fiddling for those non-computer-geeks to get connected.

Wildhoney, what would you say is the easiest way to get your hack working with HL? You know how it works internally, so you should know best /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

But all in all this is a great step towards have a _real_ dedicated server.

OK here's where I am at with this.... I can launch on HL using the WH exe and emulator. People can see and attempt to join the server but time out due to it looking for internal IP addy. I can run FBD and server, I do see people's ip joining and pinging my machine via hyper. The area that is still the problem is the change made in 1.1B that results in internal ip selection vs external ip selection for UBI users. Since the emulator is looking for this I am running netstat and checking ports on this.... VFC CrazyIvan and myself worked on this until roughly 1AM last night, I started at about 7PM /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I'm 90% there but still need to get past the internal ip hump.

If I run the DS normally it connects up to UBI fine etc. but if I run the lancher.bat file, the server doesnt launch up and creates a error log file (contents follow).

Anyone any ideas on this... please! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
