Stumbled onto this some time back, just remembered it. This pilot/journalist writes about his checkouts on a few restored classics. Here's the main index to his articles online:
http://www.avweb.com/news/columns/182146-1.html
Look especially for articles #71-#74.
There's also some neat general flying tech, as well; for instance #63-#66.
Enjoy!

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Priceless stuff!!! And this bloke seems to KNOW what he's talking about, unlike most of our resident self-appointed experts here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

That said, it would be interesting to know his opinion of IL-2...

Great site LameDuck.

The Hurricane report is great:

As one British friend mournfully told me, "John, old boy, if you're going to fly it, you really ought to pronounce it properly, it's "HURR-ic'n," not "Hurri-CANE."

Ok, call me bonkers, but I actually sent an e-mail to him suggesting he'd do a review of the latest patch. Well, we'll see what he replies if anything...

He said he doesn't have the time for a review http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Does anyone around here know folks with actual WWII warbird piloting experience who'd be willing to review the new patch, BTW?

I sent him an email some time ago when his "Those Marvelous Props" article was being found very useful by some of those struggling with prop pitch early in the game series. He was kind enough to reply with a thank you note saying he was glad we were finding it useful.

The "Fire Breathing Turbo" articles may also help a lot for those of you trying to come to terms with the P-47.

Unfortunately he hasn't put up a new article for quite some time, with demands on his time from his "day job" and his flying for the commerative air force sucking up a great deal of his time.

He also conducts certification flights and check rides for warbird pilots in his area.
