According to Olegs last big post it might possibly come. Not totally but part of the source code may be released, which means....all the aircraft we want may be flyable! Hoorah to that! Maybe even maps too...

Don't get the wrong idea I do like what UBI does more than Microsoft and it should be regulated so it doesn't turn into CFS3, but I am looking forward to it whaddaya tink?

I think you are jumping the gun by about 18 months at the least, more probably by 24+ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Part of the code. I read that post of Oleg's too and I do not draw from it that eventually there may be the possibility that we can make any aircraft we want from what he said

~S~ all. I just hope that if and when the whole open source thing does come around. My squadron won't be forced to to play strictly from the CD. In Cfs2 and even in Cfs1. A few bad apples were able to program "slight increments" to give themselves an unfair advantage. Somtimes flashbacks are not always bad. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

got a link to the post?

I seen he said BOB will feature a 3rd party addons section completely different from stock ac so they cant be affected or modded.

With this community i highly doubt we will have a large freeware model community of excellent quality.

I mean look at it now scumbags try to rip people off for every cent charging more then the game for something as simple as skins and missions. Im sure they will be charging 30 bucks a pop for a plane or more like some of the payware fs9 community does.

Most important is terrain and scenery something this sim is extremely limited in and gets very stale with its small square maps.

I would like to see oleg develop a full world terrain engine where 1000m-20000m is more important then only under 1000m or at least continental terrain.

Leadspitter says it well. 30$ for one plane (series)? Similar scenario is not only possible, it is almost certain.
About quaality of 3rd party add on? I think that deserves another thread.

Oleg stated in reply to a request from 'Chuck Older' (I think) that we would not get a 'world map':

major setback.

As far as I can tell Oleg is talking about open architecture NOT open source. Two different things. One is about interoperability, the other about the actual code being visible.

Edit: Ah - I thought you were talking about the possible open architecture parts of BoB but I now realise you are talking about open sourcing of IL2/PF. That is supposed to be a release of source to a trusted third party, so isn't open sourcing.
