What does the "Bf" in "Bf109" stand for?

- you native and proficient German speakers keep your pieholes shut and give us less lingual dexterious ones a chance! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

it stands for "Bf..109..http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ". Its the sound true La5 pilots make with their lips before pronouncing "109"

hmm I always thought it was a way to not have to use Messerschmitt to get around the debacle they had with Grumman, didnt realise it actually did mean something Me-109 becomes BF-109 no legalites.
But doing a little googling and I did get the answer:
Bayerische Flugzeugwerke
Sorry to cheat but hey now I know a little more about the 109 but of course I can only guess what that means but I wills assume it means
Bayerische Flyingworks or something similar

Next you'll ask why it's an Me 262, not a Bf 262
