Ahrg!
If you had done this on sunday I would definitively have joined in! I've missed flying formation with bombers, had a six-plane formation of Ju-88's once, and a 5 ship formation of B-25's another time. This seems to be a good one!

I might pop in a bit late on saturday as 'oposition' if that is possible.

As willyvic mentioned, run a track.

One reason we do not want externals is we don't want padlock, moreover, we wont have our own plane on the map (no minimap path)

Remember guys, it's Saturday at 15:00 New York time. This will allow our European friends to join as well as the West Coast US guys.

Hi everyone.

I'm one of the lead organisers of this bomber practice, thnx Guse for posting here about it here.

Some things that you should look into if you are considering to participate:

Formation flying and forming up vid. - RV methods from it will be used on this practice, alongside with one Monguse posted.

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-1997892837826774725

Formation that we will use:

- Each bomber will be given according number to wear as on the chart.

This is an excellent time for all to take part in a group bombing run. This a great time for all to practice their formation flying and bombing skills. Hope to see a large number.

Hi!

I attended this bomber-practice for the blue side, mostly out of curiosity of how it would end up. If I had had the time I would have flown one of the bombers, but I could barely put in some time after 21.15 CET, and figured that it would be a little late to join in.

Anyway, things didn't work out very well for the bombers, as they were harrased by blue pilots who were repeatedly told to stay away and perform CAP's over their own harbours. How that message was so hard to understand, I don't know. Personally I did not obey that order, but stayed about a km away from the formation to see how they managed. I had no intention of attacking anyway. And it was really cool to watch! They had severe difficulties with forming up in the box fomation, and for those 15-20 minutes I watched them, the 14 bombers didn't really get a hold of it. They were more like several 3- or 4-ship formations.

After passing in front of them I was positioning myself maybe 1500m behind when I was shot down by a P-38. I was virtually out of fuel anyway, so it was no big deal.

As I was hanging there in my chute, It seemed to me like some blue plane collided into 4 bombers, and if that really happened it was a shame.

The next time, I think the bombers will need a server with password protection, or make it clear allready in the invitation and mission-briefing that the blue planes are meant to stay over their own coast until the bombers reach them. Otherwise I guess the traing becomes rather poor.

I think it was nice to look at anyway! Hope you had a good practice after I left.

Skarphol, you left just before our next run. Handfull of bomber pilots switched over to fly escort because of this.

We had a successfull run, didn't cause any damage but bomb a couple of pizzas dow there, but it was fun. Next time we will be doing it on a locked server, briefing and meeting new guys while being bombed upon is planely put - impossible. And than we have vulching, shot up before we even reach RV point...

Anywway, we had great fun still, here are some screenies from our second attempt:

TY!

Quick AAR:

We had a good deal of fighters escorting us on the next run. And as blues didn't vulch us it was possible o take off and form up at designated RV.

Escorts were a little late so the first Macchi kill goes to one of our tail gunners. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif He reported our position so I turned formation a bit of he reported course (lucky for us he didn't use teamchat :P). Next few fighters that came along were quickly fended of by our escorting fighters. One 190 come through but was quickly made to run for home due to engine damage and P-47 on his tail. The last bandit we we encountered wat that 109, making a suicidal 6OC attack and coming in slowely - you can se from the screenies how it looked...

One bomber was forced to bely land in nearby field next to the airfield due to runing out of fuel. Rest tuched down safely, with only one casuality I think (top gunner).

The next schedule bomb practice will be either password protected or you will have to register before entering the server.

If we go with the registering part you will have to "<logon<pw" in the chat window to a channel called "Server" before you pick your base. This way those who register would have already downloaded the proper skins and will tend to be respectful to the wishes of the organizers. Either way will work .

Glad you all had a great time sorry I couldn't stay but I will next time.

WOuld of enjoyed doing this flying either side...The guys and I in the 78th*Sentai have had great success bombing from high altitude (5-6km, high for here)....In kind it's fun to come in attacking bomber formations yet taking ones time to just peck, yet not get pecked back....This is especially fun in a Ki-43/Ki-45/MC202...(real trick there for bombers is to NOT break formation and start the rediculous flopping about like a fighter.....puts you at risk yet more so the entire rest of the group the defensive formation breeched).

However, have had enough of TS and have no intentions of using it again as I don't need the grief when I come on to have fun.

p.s.........If you have a vulching problem place some massive AAA along a line both high and low level....Set your borders still, yet if anyone tries to cross that line to even chase the bombers home which is rediculous....They'll never make it back......Maximum patrol points key to realism...........Also, there are scripts that limit plane numbers....Bombers to enemy fighters should be roughly 8:1 IMLTHO....Makes it more fun for all.

If you have ever flown on a desert map, having a proper skin can save your *** if are wearing good cammo.

I almost forgot - big TY to FA guys for hosting the event. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

@ LEBillfish: We bomb from 6K regulary in tight formation. When engaged bombers stay tight, no one braks and fly as a fighter. There is safety in concentrated defensive gunners. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I participated in this map 30 min before the designated time to around 1.5 hours later. It was only in the game itself that we were given the impresison that this was a BOX formation exercise rather than a box formation flying in a DF map.

Once we were asked to attack AFTER the box formation was estabished, some of use did follow this but there were people in the server that do not speak english as their mother tongue so there was miscommunication going on.

I actually did recon in my 109 and didnt vulch or attck but got bounced instead by a P-38 doing recon over the red base.

Overall though it was as choatic as the real thing. I would like to participate again in the future and not just as a german flyer but maybe as a red pilot too.

Have you ever considered doing a COOP instead where ALL the people have signed up for it? it would be really nice if we can have say 100 peope with the bombers full of ACTUAL PEOPLE AS GUNNERS too!

YEAH a few people were recording including me. My perspective though would not be as nice as those recording from the B-25's themselves.

This event was planed to be only for the bomber pilots, we had more interceptors than bomber pilots and escorts combined. Go figure... Next time this will be a locked event for only bomber pilots. Coordinating and meeting new people on TS was impossible this way. Allot of things will be different next time.

As for the coop, there is something close to it and why this bomber practice was held - MegaMissions. More info on www.gozr.net (http://www.gozr.net). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

...never lost a single bomber to enemy action. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif If they are willing this would be excellent.

For the next event if we're gonna have interceptors all fighter pilots that sign up will have to be divided between attackers and escorts. We cant allow for more attackers than we have bombers and escorts together like last time. Where is fun if bomber practice transforms into target practice??? I guess some bomber pilots left before second run on account of that...

Also, bomber briefing takes a while, so all fighters will join half an hour/an hour or later so we can do this properly.
