R! all.

Do you know if there are any full real direct IP connection servers with permanent planesets always containing the A-20G? Sorry if this is a stupid question / FAQ, but I'm a _total_ n00b as regards things online. Why, I was shot down by a real human opponent for the first time in my life yesterday http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'd like to play with direct connection servers only for now, because this c**ppy computer of mine just doesn't have any CPU cycles to spare! Thus, HL and other gaming clients are plain out for the time being http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Also, I wouldn't want to join a squad just now, so something of an anonymous DF server(?) is what I'm looking for. Do you get any fighter support in there, if you fly bombing / strafing missions in a slowish bird like the A-20?

K! to all, and thanks for any info you might like to share http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I recommend ASE (All Seeing Eye) as i use it for that reason as well. You can set ASE to close itself down after you connect, and so it'll take no more resources http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

P.S Fly Tb-3 and Betty for a while and then A-20 wont seem so slow anymore http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The Havoc is very often featured on the Warclouds WF server - can't find the IP for you but IIRC you can obtain it by joining the game, quit, start up IL2 & read the IP written in the Multiplay/Join Game menu - IL2 seems to "remember" the address of the last server played on. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I fly the A-20G on WarClouds_WF alot. Its a great little plane to fly and the WarClouds settings mean you can fly in the weeds and generally aren't seen by the roving fighters unless you wade into a fight.

I like to fly through valleys or along coastlines following those to the target, drop my bombs at 50 or 100m and then run like heck.

Its great fun.

I regard A-20 as one of the best attack planes in sim. For that kind of plane it is really fast with decent defensive armament and good forward firing power.
It is also relatively durable plane.

agree

A20 turns better than bf110 and with takeoff flap it can force a fighter to make sharper turns after u. An excellent opportunity to sit in the upper turret and spray with the two 50 cal's. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Worst enemy is planes equipped with 30mm cannons.

Yeah, the Douglas Havoc is new best http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I kinda stumbled on this plane the other day, single-engine early war / under-dog types having been my main interests so far. But then I decided to take it out for a spin just for the heXX of it, and what the hey?! The plane is a sweet flyer, is fast for its size, and carries an adequate bombload too! Not to mention that it really has that massive RL aeroplaney feel too - hard to explain just what it _is_ exactly, but it's definitely there nevertheless http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The server I'm using at the moment is GreaterGreen (??? pardon me for disinformation if the name's wrong, but please bear in mind that I'm _totally_ new to all this online jazz) at 209.209.44.54:21000. The settings are hard - all difficulty options on w/ speedbar & map included if I remember correctly - and they seem to have the Havoc in most missions there. I also tried the WC full real @ 209.11.240.243:21005 yesterday, but then they changed the mission to one _not_ having this great attack bird http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

But anyway, thanks for your opinions and insights, gents! I'm hanging around here & there at the moment - full-real flying experience being my only criteria for a server - until I find something I can really sink my teeth into...

And oh yeah, my callsign is "MSa" in case you like to know the n00b whose A-20 you just shot to pieces http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

S! And see you guys around http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

PS. Gotta check the WC_WF too. Is it a full-difficulty server?

From everything I have read about the A-20 Havoc it seems that it was a great aircraft with nearly 0 faults and solid positives. I highly reccomend the book 'Wreaking Havoc' a first person account of flying and fighting the Havoc in the Pacific by its author Joseph W.Rutter, copywright 2004.

i hate that fat rudder...

Basically the same rudder that was fitted into Douglas DC-4 too if memory serves (and is not misinformed).

I love her, shes a dream to fly, fast, good handling, can take a kicking and rather manoeuverable. I treat her like a fighter when I need to and have a few online kills in a fighter role with her. I'm know to really through her about as well in evasion byt my squad members. Even me complimented on how hard I am to shoot down :P

All in all, a d@mn fine aircraft. Looking forward to the A20C as well

ASE may still leave it in there though.

Got the IPs sorted I think -> FYI if I'm not mistaken, correct as needed:

WarClouds_FISC: 209.11.240.243:21005
WarClouds_WF: 209.11.240.243:21000 (??? not sure whether this is the WF server, but there's a DF server there anyway)

The A-20 often shows up on Easternhotshots - which I often connect to by direct link. I can't remember the IP address (no head for numbers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) but Pirschjaeger has it in his sig.
