I luv the Cobra. IMHO the Q-1 offers the best balance of armament and handling. (This is the midrange non-4 blade prop model).

4 x .50 cal and the nose 37mm

Set your gun converge at 200m for both MGs and the Cannon and wail away. If your gunnery is off, be prepared for some frustrating evenings trying to score a hit with the 37mm. But when it's on....look out.

And yes, the damage rating for the 37mm is modeled a bit low in FB. I've hit 109s with 3 cannon shells and they kept flying. In reality, probably one hit and it would be all over but the crying.

I think the 777's and BlitzPigs flew the cobra quite a lot at one time. Check them out, and then come up to the www.greatergreen.com (http://www.greatergreen.com) servers. You'll find me shaggin a 190 in the 'ol Airacobra......

Astro, S! P39 is an old favorite of mine. Cut my teeth on GG server against Yak-3's. Its an energy fighter so it will teach you the best of both worlds BnZ AND TnB. The FM so far in FB is a little off though, the stalls are now incorrect and it just does not snap roll like it used to. Dont listen to anyone else the Q-10 is a mean machine and I hear that the .50 cals are being fixed in the mythical patch.

Jup, luv the P39, as it was my absolute favourite in IL2. Now I fly the P40 and P47, too, but, well, all of them are messed up until the patch.

I shot my whole load of 37mm shells in a TB3 and it still flew - a lot of holes, but it was just flying on.

When was that patch coming out again /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ?

The P-39 is my fave ride. The only AC I fear is a Yak-3, but the Q-1's can can fill a Yak full of 1/2 inch holes and even the playing field. I dont have a problem with the 37MM. Its all in WERE you hit, not how many times. Hit the inside of a wing, and its toast. About the only AC that can survive 1 37MM hit is a FW-190. I hit one in the wing beside the cockpit and it kept going. I was shocked!!! I even fed it some .50's but it still climbed away! I met him up at his base when he tried to land. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

All big Cannon damagemodels in FB is somewhat underrated, esspecially german MK108.. Cobra needs up to 10 hits with MK108 to blow it up sometimes.. Usually one hit to FW190 or Me-109, when flying with P-39, is enough to bring it down, however..

P-39 is totally overmodelled. Where are the critical stall characteristics?

Yea i think cobra in Fb is overmodeled. I read test patch v. 08 and saw that cobra after patch climb like BF F-4 and still have FM from FB v.1.0 (stall characteristic)http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif This seems cobra will be better ufo after patch than FB 1.0 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

Ya I hear ya lilseed! He was like the P39 king in my books. The 39 in my fav ride too as you know and I never got to fly against him like I wanted. He always had the COOLEST P39 pics too.

I remember him saying that he is away for awhile and just before that he had admitted to changing rides. I know he was trying his hand at bombers but I don't know what his new ride will be.

Me. I love the P-39. It is my plane, and will always be. She's a fickle biatch. Not to be toyed with. But I love her just the same >8)

I haven't bought FB yet, so I don't anything about this overmodelling business.

About a half dozen pigs fly the '39 exclusively. (Everyone flies what he or she wants)
I've been flying the P-39 exclusively since IL-2 (the original) came out.
The only plane that might get me out of the P-39 cockpit is a P-63.

Best plane in FB, i must admit i don't fly that much with it now. It seems to have lost it's "unforgiving feel" when compared to the original IL2 game.
Now i can really abuse it and it never goes into that flat spin which the P39 was renowned for.
I've come to the conclusion that it must have been fitted with the eurofighter fly-by-wire system, it's become to easy and boring to fly. I've noticed that something has happend to the I-16 as well in IL2 FB, i hope the fix them.

You should've flown the P-39 in the original Il-2 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I wouldn't say she's n00bish now. Although in the original IL-2 it did take balls of steal to fly her. Which is why I chose her as my main chariot. Now she's a little too forgiving, but she's still far from n00bish.

Any plane that doesn't stall easy is a noob plane. That's just plain stupid thinking.

For you hard core flyers. Fly the Fw190 after the patch. You have your wish for a fast stalling plane. Let's see how many of you do it.

There, I went and said it, were actually having fun with FB the way it is. So neener neener

I like the Yak-9K better. Even if its cannon is undermodeled, I've yet to see a single engine plane survive a 45mm HE round. If you hit em with AP in the wing, youll give them a leak, but a HE round will tear both wings and the tail off the cockpit. BOOM!

Not very realistic though. It was a ground attack plane, and so bad at dogfighting, that the Yak3 used to escort it.

What happened to the P39's legendary stall characterisitics?

It's been noobified in FB for some inexplicable reason. Did Oleg and crew get it completely wrong in IL2?

I think it just depends on when you're flying there are nights when I'm the only P-39 driver and then again the other evening there was an s-load of 39's in the air----

the 79th Fighter Squadron is in the Squadron Forum looking for members as P-39 drivers

check it out

actually not undermodelled, but overmodelled.. in real life one shot with Yak9T, and Yak's speed dropped sometiems up to 400km/h .. That is what I call recoil.. in FB there is zerou recoil.. and after the patch too, I hear.... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
