That is not a surprisingly small cockpit!! That is a giant cockpit. Have you ever flown on a jet and peered into the cockpit while entering or exiting the plane?? I have flown on many types from smaller ones like the Fokker 100 to larger "heavies" like the 767 and DC-10. The average sized jets like 757 and 737 have really cramped cocpits that look small it almost triggers claustrphobic fits for me!! They don't have much elbow room but that picture suggests a luxuriously sized pit. I have never seen the pit of a 747 because most coach class enter, exit and ride the lower deck. So you can't see the pit unless you go upstairs and they leave the pit door open.

They even have a "desktop replacement" laptop to play a little IL2 while the automatic pilot carries them to destination. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Better hope the pilot is left-handed....

I got type rated on the 737 recently and the 380 cockpit is a little roomier, but not much. I understand what you mean though, before I ever sat in an airliner cockpit I had this image in my head that they all had this massive flight deck where plenty of folks could come and go and stand around - kind of like the movie airplane.

With the price of airliners today, you don't waste any cabin real estate on a large flight deck unless you absolutely have to.

IIRC, the commander sits on the right in this plane.

BTW, it is supposed to be comfortable, reachable and practical, not a ball-room.

Would you prefer this size flight of deck?

P.S. The Skipper sits in the left seat.

I'm not sure, but I thought it was on the right.

No pilots in here? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Fritz,

In an airliner, the Boss sits in the left seat. In helos it's the other way around.

I counted 11 cupholders!

Additionally, there appear to be bewbies on the center console for the crew to fondle. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

The C-5A has a roomy cockpit. The seats are like lounge chairs....
