I have always run microsoft precision2 sticks with the Il2 series. I have always installed them and run them with the default curve. They have always worked perfectly with every incarnation of the Il2 series.
The only thing I do is apply my super-secret set up the buttons on the stick and base that allows me to out-pan and perform any track IR user, poor bastards.......

If the stick does not work well with the default curve then look elswhere for a problem?

Yea, some might alter the curves to fit what they "think" a WWII fighter or bomber might have had, but it is just that, a thought, and exists nowhere outside their head.
If you want to do well in this sim, run default, get used to it, then you will be able to work on flying and gunnery. If you are always fiddling with how your controls react to input, you will always be at a disadvantage in combat becuase you will always be learning instead of knowing.

I've had my MS Sidewinder Precision 2 since CFS I days. Since June 2005, I've added CH pedals though.

Here's what I've used since patch 4.01. Before that, I used default settings.

Stick (all "aircraft")
X=0 3 8 15 23 32 41 52 65 81 100 60
Y=0 3 8 15 23 32 41 52 65 81 100 60

Pedals (all "aircraft")
Z=0 0 2 5 7 14 28 42 65 85 100 60
