The server is now powered by TX-OC3 dedicated, generously provided by TX Squadron http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kursk 1943
Prokhorovka 1943
Kuban 1943
Crimea 1944 €" the fall of Blue line.

I prefer speedbar. I can live without minimap. I like speedbar because I have a hard time seeing my airspeed without zoom on all planes. Alt is easy enough to view. But its nice to know your speed without zooming in on dash. IMO

Yeh I noticed it was up again it was still in my friends list on Hyper. I was too busy Cooping to fly in there though.

Speed bar is ok, I guess. Maybey just the heading seeting on it though, for obvious reasons on certian aircraft. I'd like to be forced to use my gauges more.

Why no padlock? The seemingly unified bias against it seems to indicate that just about everyone has TiR and doesn't want to let anyone without it be able to compete on the same level.

The fact is that using any view control currently available to us is wholly unrealistic. Even TiR with it's fractional head movements where you have to look in the opposite direction you are turning your head. Hat switches and mice are even worse.

Simply put, padlock is a means to overcome this lack in current technology. Oleg even said as much himself.

(to say nothing of the limitations of resolution or view size, which PL also helps compensate for, especially when in concert with icons)

Beyond that, speedbar is also a realism enhancer/compensator. I know, people are going to have cramps over the idea of a "HUD", but once again, you can't glance back at your guages, or feel your speed like you could if you were actually sitting there. Particularly if you don't have an FF joystick. The speedbar helps account for this lack. It also makes things more fair. When it comes to being forced to rely on the guages, the LW (109 and jets especially) have the VVS and RAF beat, cold.

Finally - this no external stuff is just ridiculous. People can actually *hear* you approach thanks to the sonar, so it's not like it does anything in that regard. What locking people inside does do, however, is prevent people from enjoying all the visuals that this game has to offer, as well as forcing boring flights to altitude for the E-fighters, thus luring people away from them, to say nothing of the boredom of trying to find anyone on a sparsely populated air-quake server where nobody knows each other and has no interet in coordination. Being locked inside isn't so bad when you have time acceleration and a planned flight. Then you can skip the boring part. Online, you can't do that. And it's not like DF servers can even hope to have any semblence of realism anyway. So it's just kinda pointless to restrict people like that.

S~!

Nice server.

Some really pro grade pilots like Jimmy Giro, the tx guys, some blitz pigs and others. Eastern front is definitely a challenge for Red flyers which makes kills against the above all the sweeter.

VFC Server is the best DF out there at the moment. Some really top notch flying and a friendly atmosphere.

We also had a lot of fun flaming Crash. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yep, it was a good time! It was nice to see a good turnout, and was a fun way for me to get back into the saddle, and have some, shall we say dynamic conversation with some old voices from the past.

For those who don't know, we also host a dedicated TeamSpeak at the same IP, feel free to hop on 69.56.198.2, join up in the VFC*HOST Channel, Password is vfccoops.

See ya there!

It's offers a completely unrealistic capability not found in even modern fighters let alone WWII aircraft. To be honest, I find padlock's only real value is as a training aid for new pilots to help them develop their spacial orientation/situational awareness skills until they get the hang of it. Others may feel differently as you seem to.

...and yes, it's good to see VFC Dedicated back in business. Definitely one of the better servers...with an Eastern Front flavor no less. Yes!

Sorry, but that's simply BS.

Padlock breaks when the target goes out of view. PL also causes problems for people because it seeks awkwardly at certain angles and can even result in disorientation.

If we were in a dome, with life-size images and at *least* QXGA resolution, then you'd be right. But with the small square window we are locked behind, and the poor res, small image size, and completely unrealistic view control, it's a required compensation if one wants to approach any semblance of realism.

IDK how far back the search goes on this forum, probably not far enough, but "the man" said it himself, right here on these very forums.

It always comes down to this.

If ya don't like a servers settings, fly elsewhere or host your own.

No more complaining. If ya want to rant about Ivans server take it to Private topics. Or even TX,

Echo do you have a section over at TX forums for VFC yet?
