View Full Version : What if our expectations are too high?

Great graphics, great sound, great gameplay, great performance, dynamic campaign, almost everything anybody would want in a WWII sub-sim.

Sometimes I wonder if it is too good to be true.

Anybody else ever wonder?

Guess we will find out "soon".

LOL

Now we've reached the "self-doubt" stage. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Y'know... you can almost feel the tension in this forum already - can you imagine what it'll be like on the days leading up to release?!?

One thing's for sure - if your doubt proves accurate, I think I may avoid this place for a few weeks after the 18th... it may not be pretty. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

...but I don't think there'll be much cause for concern. Unless your DVD drive doesn't read the disk.

Or the triangle is non-negotiable.

Or the campaign is lame.

Or there's a "respawn" option, and a "console".

Or you get a major decoration for sinking one ship.

Or you can upgrade your 'scope with furry dice.

Or...

Or...

Or...

... you get the picture. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I can guarantee that many people will not be happy, i could even give you the names of a lot of them lol. There is no doubt when something is hyped so much (even though the company is not hyping it we are ourselves) that it is a let down to many. Thats why im trying not to look at too much stuff now.

Like the recent training video, that looked so intricate, im getting all sorts of ideas in my head about navigation and intercepting ships ect. I know half of them wont be in the game, but i cant help myself lol. Im sure many others are doing the same.

I just hope everyone goes easy on them when the game is out, i mean complain if there are problems but remember how lucky we are that someone has even bothered to work on this low profile genre!!

we should give constructive criticism so that they can implement it in an addon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So true. Not that we should feel "blessed" or anything so grandiose, but there's bound to be a few trigger-happy b!tchers ready to call the devs all the names under the Sun for not including their fave feature, or for including something as !!!HORROR!!! inducing like a wee red triangle (which can be switched off...).

BobTuck.

p.s. Sometimes, just sometimes, a PC game comes out that (despite a few minor quibbles) redefines a genre and makes people sit up and take notice. This, my friends, is one of those games that will make it into the 'history books'!

Believe me! I'm a doctor...

Mwuhahaha!

personally, i belive this game will be a big hit. ok, i know that there aren't too many people out there that are into subs.. and console games are dominating the market. but sh3 has one thing on her side, and that is realism. from the pictures and videos i've seen, nothing comes even close. this sim has a great potential to be groundbreaking and a blueprint to sims of the future.

I hope too, but i have seen the pictures and i suspect. When the hull is damaged, the crew (3D MODELS) don't care.

There will always be people who will be disappointed when such a long awaited product is released.

I think this is often due to us developing our own ideas about what we think the sim will be like, then finding that there are things in the sim that are not the way we expected and/or wanted.

Not to mention the unexpected bugs that are always likely to plague a complicated piece of software (not all of which can be caught since there is no way for developers to test the software with every hardware combination that can be put together).

Some of us will be happy to change our expectations to fit the way the sim will play and we'll enjoy it. Other's will not be able to do that and they'll moan. Until it's released we won't really know who will be in which group.

As they say, it takes all sorts to make a world. And it's very true. Afterall think how boring life would be if we all liked the same things and thought the same way.

Oh.....And I'm putting my money on BobTuck being in the asylum be the 5th....The day after me!!!!!!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I'm pretty sure at least I won't be disappointed. When I heard about SH3 for the first time I hoped for a dynamic campaign and better AI than in SH2.

Everything else is just a bonus for me.

@Jester,
If I get lucky enough to win a place at Ubi's 'open day' on the 5th, then yes, they will have to cart me away in a straight-jacket afterwards!!!

@Messervy,
Him you be, he is here already....

As has been said, people will always find something to complain about with gameplay etc. My only hope is the code is solid in terms of the game actually runs on most PCs and has no major bugs.
Do not want to see another Far Cry-esque forum.
hehehe

Everything has a climax, and from that point goes on a decline.

I think if the game is not released soon, many people will give up.
I wonder why it takes so long for it to be released on the 18th.

Have the CD's already been copied, have the boxes and manuals already been printed? Why is it taking so long?

I think it is important to judge the game based off of past Sims....that way you can see improvment, instead of building up unrealistic expectations that might not be possible in a sim today. I think the wait has been very long and I think the Community did a great job to aid the production (hell we got the thing delayed for an upgrade).....I also think it was best to show the Dev team that we are not Sheep and that we will not accept the minimum. I think it is better to get your concerns out quickly so that something can be done before it is set in stone. I think I'm always pesamistic until I see results....that way I'm plesently suprised and not let down.
