Well................
I beleive a 1,000lb AP bomb would do some EXTREMELY lethal damage to any DD.

But, I can hit Russian type 7 DD's with it all day and they don't sink. Their flak toasts me.
Dive bombing stuff with the Stuka is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on, but I wonder about the difficulty of sinking even the smaller warships.

An SD500 is nothing to sneeze at. What gives?

Ya. I do think the roll rate of the SD500 is a little porked. I think Oleg should fix it.

LOL..the SD500's no AP bomb..it's a fragmentation bomb /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

SC = high explosive
SD = fragmentation
AB = cluster
PC = anti-tank
LM = mine bomb/ "air mine"
BM = " "

Still; dropping five hundred kilo's of explosives on even an armoured warship should do *some* damage, like taking out the guns or somesuch. Or am I imagining things?

Fragmentation bombs are usually effective against personnel and soft targets. I don't know how much damage they would do to the external parts of the ship (ie: guns etc...), but I doubt it can sink it.

- Brem, you miss the point. Destroyers are not armored,
an SD500 should go right through the bottom and explode underneath.
You are correct in your designations, although the term "semi armor-piercing" has been applied to the SD series of bombs more than once.

Maybe you just forgot to set the delay on 0 seconds... ?

I hab no probs with sinking ships (SD500) in 1.0...

Since when is 1/4" or 3/8" plate considered armour on a DD?/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

A 500kg bomb does not have 500kg of explosives but is the total weight of the bomb. It should slice through that plating like a hot knife through butter. Even a near miss should cause buckled plates(leaks), bounce equipement off mountings, prop shaft mis-alignment, etc, etc.

-------

Does anyone have data on the lethal radius for each bomb weight and type?

I'm with you, Milo.
A 1000 pounder vs a DD is usually a destroyed DD.
I am goint to check the delay per Brems' advice, though.

One SC500, 0-delay skip-bombed into the side of the Russian destroyer in Crimea QMB will not sink it in 1.1b. Pretty sure it did in 1.0.

The good news is:
The Ju87D-3, with 1 SC500 and a pair of SC250s put her down pronto.

The bad news, I guess, is that without the likes of the SD1600 or PC1500 in FB we won't be able to sink the likes of Marat or Soviet heavy cruisers without bringing wingmen along.

Lots of them. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I learned to aim certain weakness area after watch where AI drop bombs into often that sink it. Otherwise, skipping bomb work well. (bomb skip on water one time will work)
