View Full Version : I am really excited about this next patch 4.0.....

The sim rocks as it is. But now we are getting more planes and a new flight model that will be more realistic.

I hope all the big servers use the new flight model that makes take-offs and landings tougher. Should clean up the ground traffic at bases.

Don't worry about cpu demands of the new patch. Every upgrade and patch that ever came out has had this worry and they were unfounded. I can still run this sim on the same rig I used when Il2 came out over three years ago.

For some reason I just have a feeling that this next patch will really kind of "finish" this sim to a fine degree. I also have a feeling it is going to be out within a week. Don't know why, just the way it is.
Anyone else have these ideas?

See you all online! S!

I am nervous about the new patch

Oleg said that the AI FM will be the same FM that the player uses

Why does that make you nervous? its what people have wanted all along.

I can't wait for it, its the best patch yet.

It's because CPU speed and memory are the traditional limiting factors for physics to be calculated in a sim.

In the new campaign I just made, for example:

40 bombers, 3 escorts, 8 friendlies coming into the target area blanketted by flak doesn't give me aframe hit on my 2.08GHz 768 MB RAM machine

Now put those 51 aircraft into a mission where every plane has the player's FM. That's a lot of claculations. Oleg himself has alluded to this being an issue

Jumoschwanz
03-20-2005, 07:48 PM
Well flying online dogfight the only FM the computer has to work on is yours, so at least that is going to be ok for everyone. And as for coops and offline missions, it looks like "complex flight models" is going to be a switch just like "complex engine management", So those with older rigs can switch it off, or do like we all used to at one time or another and just limit the number AI objects in the missions. The quote from Oleg leads me to believe that **ALL** FMs will be as detailed as the players, no matter what

I've come from my weekly drinking binge just now; home from the local is not the best time to ask me to procduce the quote, but I'm sure of the gist of things- all FMs will be as detailed as the players'

Yeah,

I'm concerned about the new FM as well,
I simply cannot afford to upgrade and will not be in a position to do so for a long time (P4 3.06 512 Fx5600).
I hope the new .exe isn't required either, as this may even slow things down further. I hope the new FM and .exe are selectable and can be switched off, it would be a terrible shame to have waited for the new patch/add-on with the new planes and fixes and not be able to use it because it's a system killer. I play exclusively offline at the moment so my machine has to crunch the algorythms for everything.

Cheers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

New FM, Ki-100, Heavy Japanese strike A/C, new ground objects, maybe some surprises in the cockpit department. The Mosquito will probably be fun to fly. The Tempest too. Then there is that Super-Super-Spit, the XIV, can't say I'm looking forward to that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can't wait. I've been through a lot of patches, add-ons and for the most part they've all been great. Even when they were'nt so great, they were at least exciting. New planes are exciting to fly and check out.

I've a P4 1.5 Ghz. If I just get to play against a pair of enemy fighters with a much better FM I'll be happier than I am now with the 12 or so planes my computer can just about handle in a fight at once. Maybe I'll get some more RAM (I've 512mb), d'you think it'll help?

By this point in the IL2 lifecycle, we've added patches and mods, skins, campaigns, missions, add-on enhancement software and maps...with relatively few problems. And consider the peripheral systems we all attach to this sim...and still make it work (most of the time).

At some point, we might start cutting the developers some slack. They've got a pretty good record.

Hmmm, and you might back up anything you don't want to lose.

I'm with Gunslinger on this one.

All the potential new stuff AND a new FM!? How can you be a regular in this sim and in this community and not be excited about it. Sure, there have been times when the anticipation has been almost better than the actual patch, but we don't even have it yet...so the anticipation is building.

I am patiently looking forward to it.

S!,
I hoping for the best too. However, since the patch will have a new univeral FM, I fully expect there to be some bugs...there is always something that developers miss, but my fingers are crossed.

As to the big online servers hosting the new patch? Well, this depends if the developers also release a dedicated server patch. I haven't seen any mention of this, but I could have missed something. If the dedicated server patch isn't released, then I can see future problems that will have to be addressed.

This isn't a flame or dig against the developers. I salute them and all their efforts to bring us this fine sim. However, I would be on the side of caution before getting caught up in the hype if you expect to fly this new patch online. Like I said, I'm hoping for the best. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

While I can understand your sentiments, the "Il2 historical record" is pretty intact. We have always gotten patches, particularly after Oleg announces them, and they always had a "surprise" or two. If you couple Olegs statements (two) with the development updates, you see some really cool things coming.

Just the fact that there will be a patch, after the PF release is good news for many.

Oleg has been hinting about the new flight model for a while, I'm suprised it's coming out this soon. For me, this is the best news.

The FM change will alter EVERY plane in the game, not just add two or three or however many new planes. It will effect everyone, all of the time, to some degree or the other.

This could be the largest global change in the history of this sim.

And yes, to echo your sentiments Heinz, I really hope the dedicated server release is timely.

Do we know if the Mozzy will have any frontal armament? I know some models had cannon but the majority weren't right? I hope so, but if not i'll still look forward to skipbombing a few ships and running away rapidly much to the frustration of a trailing 109 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Well, that's what I hope, the mozzy's best feature was pure speed after all.

Also, the mozzy had canvas wings so handle small calibre fire easily with bullets just passing through the wings - will this be modelled do you think? I guess it's too complex really.

Hah, I'm with Bearcat on this one - it'll be great and maybe at last I'll be able to practice energy tactics AGAINST the AI.

I say "Neh!" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif to all those who's glass is half empty. I can play 3.04m quite happily with my "feeble" nVidia GeForce4 MX420 with only 64Mb ram. Although I can't get Perfect, I can get up to the threshold without problems.

Since everyone else's gear seems to be higher spec than mine, I don't see what they can worry about.

PS : Ploughman, . I used to have occasional "gunfire" stutter, but upgrading RAM from 512Mb to 1Gb solved that completely. So I would heartily recommend a Ram upgrade as a cheap and not-so-nasty quickfix.

Hey Chuck,
Let's see if we can get someone to donate $1500 each to our upgrade fund. Then I could build me a Athlon64 rig just for FB\AEP\PF. I only need a MB, proc and memory. He he he!!!

Hey Thunderbolt, good to see you! S~

Perhaps now, with the new FM, we will finally be able to see what the stick and rudder inputs of the "Hartmann evasion" really do, instead of trying to simulate it with other manuevers, like the "negative knife".

One can only hope.

Who knows. There might be a mystery aircraft or two. Remember when the I-185's came out? There was'nt a big annoucement about that. I'm not even sure there was a development update.

Personally, I would drop dead to see a Do-335. It's that outrageous cockpit model that someone did. Even though you'd never get to fly it in regular servers. There would be enough "wierdo" planes for someone to go off and create the "Banned Plane Server". The Me-262, P-80, Me-163, Go-229, I-185's (both), the BI-1, Ki-84c and you could'nt leave out the BF-109Z. Maybe even Ivan could go off and create a "Banned Planes Wednesday COOP Nite" or something similar http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, back to reality. I'm really looking forward to flying the Mosquito, KI-100 and that awesome later war, Italian figher plane whenever they get it done.

But most of all, I'd like to see the Tempest. The Tempest was the great foe of late war FW's.
It's said by some, that the Tempest was the closest thing to a Dora at med-low altitude that there was.

And you know, while I'm thinking about it, I really hope there are Bomber Cockpits. Lots and lots of bomber cockpits, the more four engined, the better. In fact, I'd really rather see the bomber cockpits more than the Do-335, now that I think about it. More bomber cockpits, means more bombers flying on line, and more bombers flying on line is a lot more fun, particularly if there B-29's or B-24's or PE-8's. I don't want these cockpits for myself, mind you, just for my friends who like to fly bombers!

Anyway, it's alot like Christmas and I'm sure I'll be happy with results.

I'm still enjoying the muzzle flash fixes from when PF came out. In fact, that's my favorite thing about PF; I can see when I shoot!
