Is there any way to get AI comrades to help when you're in trouble?
I was recently playing an offline mission and got hit by flak then pursued by A6M's. I was alone and calling for help with the reply from ground-control that there was none. I spotted about 6 TBF's in formation nearby so i headed toward them and joined up in their midst.
The b@stards didnt help me at all!
Not one of the TBF gunners opened up and the A6M's picked me out from the middle of the group. My gunner was firing madly but doing no good (why is it that my AI gunners are such cr@p at shooting while enemy AI are deadly?).
In the end i took so much damage that i had to bail.
I was tempted to shoot at the TBF's just to get them stirred into action http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

TBF/TBMs are not fighters. Strange though, if you are in a Stuka and request help they turn to fighter mode and try to chase down fighters.....

This is the story of all of our off-line lives.

A couple of missions ago in my Soviet Leningrad campaign, I was leading a flight of four P-40Es on a bombing escort, which also had a couple of LaGG-3s with them. We ran into a flight of four 'Veteran' 109Fs. I told my wingman to cover me, and got his assurance that he was 'right with' me.

To make a long story short, a minute and a half later, just as I'm about to nail the 109 leader, his Number Two catches me in a 90 degree deflection shot from 400m, and shreds my elevators (an unfortunate occurance, as I was rolling down on my target from 800m alt at the time). I must have made an impressive crater.

MY 'Veteran' Number Two? Five kilometers away at 2500m, heading back to base unscathed and not a round fired, apparently unbuttoning his trousers and saying to himself: "Ooooh, what's this, then?"

Refly.

cheers

It wasnt that i wanted the TBF's to be fighters. I wanted the protection of their gunners.
I've tried attacking gaggles of planes with rear gunners without much success unless i make slashing attacks. I wanted the rear gunners of the TBF's to fire on the A6M's that were directly behind me. I formed up with the TBF's and travelled along with them but they completely ignored the fighters that were pursuing me.
The A6M's ignored the TBF's as well.
It was like they didnt want to be my friend- which is really strange because i'm a great guy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That is one of the AI flaws in the sim... While I still think the AI is better in this sim than in any other.... it isnt perfect by any means... or even close. I have had AI fly the wing of my pursuer.... and only react to him after I am spiralling down to the ground... and to add insult to injury to then take him out with a short burst.

True story, Ju-88 Stalingrad campaign. Me and 2 wingmen on the way unescorted although there is was a group of 4 109s patrolling a way away. A pair of Migs attacked, so I dropped my bombs and ordered my wingmen to RTB. One got shot down, me and my wingman were taking damage so I called home base for help. I got the message (in subtitles) "We are vectoring fighters, ahng on tight!" Uh-huh. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif Didn't expect anything....but looked back saw the 4 dots get bigger and wow the 109s arrived (not before my other wingman was shot down) and got both Migs...my damage was bad but at least I got near my airfield before one of my engines caught fire and my crew had to bail...we all survived. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Well what can i say, I too have not been helped by wingmen yet sometimes the immersion is great!
