Buy Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack, and Pacific Fighters. You'll have it all.

8997 less than you thought.

There are four games:

IL2 Sturmovik - the original game.

IL2 Forgotten Battles - the sequel, including all the aircraft and maps of the original plus a lot more, with fancier graphics, AI routines and flight model calculation.

Ace Expansion Pack - Expansion for Forgotten Battles, including even more maps & aircraft.

Pacific Fighters - Standalone game that can be also be installed as an add-on over the Forgotten Battles/Ace Expansion Pack combination (adding even more maps/planes to the FB/AEP install).

-----------

Useable combinations are:

IL2 Sturmovik

Forgotten Battles

Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack

Pacific Fighters

Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters

-----------
Multiple installs work fine. I currently have all five combinations installed. If you aim to fly online I'd suggest the last combination, as by far the majority of online pilots fly that version.

If you want multiple installs, you might like to read this guide (click here) (http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/multivers.htm) explaining the quickest way to go about it. Whichever combination you choose, read this article (http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/patching.htm) which explains the correct patches for each combination. If you're doing a combined (merged) installation, take particular note of the text in <span class="ev_code_red">RED</span> when reading the guide.

If you're intending to do either FB/AEP or FB/AEP/PF, see if you can find the Forgotten Battles Gold Pack as it contains both FB and AEP for (usually) less than the cost of the two individual boxes.

Yes il2 the original is NOT upwardly upgradable

Forgotten battles and the AEP Ace Expansion Pack can be purchased together in a Forgotten Battles Gold pack...

Pacific can be addded to that as said or used as a standalone.

BEWARE WHEN BUYING AEP Ace Expansion there is a Campaign mission disc for sale from another company that is called aces I believe.. DO NOT GET THEM MIXED UP

The best value is Gold Pack (http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=008888681809&usitem=68207).

Gold Pack includes Forgotten Battles and its expansion Aces Expansion Pack. If you get this bundle or the two titles separately, the last patch version is v2.04.

Pacific Fighters (http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=68207&promo=fdlgpfsite) can be played separately but I think most people like it best as an add-on to FB+AEP. Currently all future upgrades will only support PF or FB+AEP+PF.

(Skip the original "IL-2 Sturmovik." Forgotten Battles is essentially a re-release of IL-2 Sturmovik with more material, and the original can't be expanded upon.)
