This NewView is great,/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif you start your turn or climb and you are automatically looking a bit ahead of where you are headed, the harder you turn the more ahead you look...WOW this should be incorporated into the FB package. UBI you guys should buy this from the creator, heck it would even work for a driving sim. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I used jetstream100s NPClient.ini to get me started and have not tweaked the settings yet, but I am very impressed so far.

Yes. I've been flying with a "test pilot", and keeping my old assignments for flying without NewView. You know, just removing the dll when I want to go back to the old view system. I am about ready to throw the old view system away.

Glad you finally gave it a try, I was wondering if you would ever install it :>

At the moment I'm just testing and playing with various functions in Build26 and trying to work out interesting things to do with simultaneous use of NewView + Joy2key. Should be a new version of the beta help document out in a week or so I hope. I like to use Joy2Key because it means I can emulate the mouse on one of my TM gamepads analogue sticks and leave the mouse alone entirely when I load FB :>

What I think would be really killer features for NewView would be:

1. Emulation of joystick axis on keyboard buttons - allowing people to use flaps or trim on an emulated slider. Or the ability to map the trim/flap/mix/pitch slider axis via the mouse, with a button press to switch which one's being emulated.

2. More Button Generator functions - I've found so many uses for these, but it's such a shame that we can only make one function at a time in NewView.

3. Ability to map functions to buttons on any available joystick rather than having only one to pick.

But as you said, as is, it adds so much to FB. It feels so much more natural, and it has really made me appreciate the work that has gone into the plane cockpits now that I've seen more than just a fixed dead centre view of them :>

Ok here is my best attempt to give a description of what New View does.

When you drive your car do you look at the spot right in front of your car as you go around a curve "NO" you look beyond the point you are at while still keeping the road directly in front of you in your peripheral vision.

That's what NewView does for you - as you move your joystick in any direction - it automatically pans for you - only slightly and slightly more the harder or further you move the stick. Hope this helps /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

OK, one question:

Are you able to switch to any manual view control? For instance, sometimes you are headed in one direction (let's say a straight line) but you need to look to the right or left, or...wherever. How is this accomplished?

Yes.

Your hat will also provide smooth view panning, similar to mouse view pans.

You can turn the automatic viewpoint movement associated with your joystick movements off entirely if you wish via a button or key press in game. You can tune how much view movement there will be to a fairly fine level, as well as how fast your hat will pan the view, as well as control the acceleration of view movement while you hold down a direction on your POV hat. You also can set up custom "UViews" in NewView which will make your view snap or pan to a predefined location.

There is a crappy but fairly detailed guide on using NewView which you can look at by clicking on the second thread link artatack posted at the top of the thread. This will tell you pretty much exactly what it does and details most of the program options.

And since I had to write it out twice, I'd really appreciate it if people would just go and look at it if they have questions :>

It took you long enough to take the plunge ;-)

For those of you who are interested:

I have some new settings:

Map Center (while pressed) to INS (Numpad0) in Buttons tab
Assign Press - KeyGen1 (Del) in Buttons tab to INS (Numpad0)
Activate KeyGen1/Press+Release for Delete and Page Down (default) in Button Generator.

Now when you press and hold INS/Numpad0 you get a centered view with maximum magnification. When you release, you pop back to NewView and PageDown (Max FOV).

--
For those of you who are willing to experiment a bit, apparently NewView has three View Modes (activated by pressing View Mode Toggle: 1) NewView, 2) IL2 1, 3) IL2 Mode 2. It automatically generates a F9 key press when you switch from one mode to the other (IL2) and will let you use the numpad keys for the old IL2 Modes. I still can't get it to work right but I thought I'd tell you about it.

Wierdness: If you want a faster return speed, you need to LOWER the value in the Speed tab!

Use UViews for Check Six (X=12300, Y=0) and (X=-12300, Y=0) and for mirrors (X=0, Y=-2300).

I don't think you need a hat for this to work!. Sorry can't post a track now.

I use it like this:

When you pull back on the stick, your view smoothly rotates upward depending on how far and how fast you pull back on the stick. (These settings are set by the user) The same goes for pushing the stick, and left/right. I have a key bound to reset my view to the center/cockpit view, in case I need precision shooting, or just to get my bearings.

Anybody know which command is to toggle newview on/off in the game? Can't look now, not at home. I looked for a little bit last night but couldn't seem to find it--maybe I'm blind? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'd love to try it, but the tweaking of the config files or whatever type of files they are, is intimidating to me. I read a thread on NewView once and the instructions that some one left was or seemed to complicated. Is there an easier way to integrate into FB? If not, I'm just SOL. ~S~

Just to mention that you don't need to do that.
If you assign a key combo to 'bind joystick to views' (buttons>control menu), pressing this toggles the dll completely on and off, even during game, just as though you had removed the folder.

It is advisable to make this binding because sometimes the dll becomes 'unhooked' (just as TrackIR stops working properly and you have to reload FB). So it is handy to be able to resort back to normal controls (except maybe the hat view control would be disabled).

Does NewView play well with Dhauzimmer X-45 drivers using hat as mouse?

I ALREADY have a hat configured to operate as mouse. I do not want to screw up that functionality. The only thing I stand to gain from using NewView is that the view bobs around and "looks ahead" when you pull Gs, right?

Bind joystick to views starts and stops the view 'look ahead' when you move your main joystick. Smooth POV hat movement will continue to work regardless of whether you have Bind Joystick To Views on or off. If you wish, you can turn off NewViews POV hat movement entirely and continue to use the FB view system, with or without the 'look ahead' style movement. Very customisable :>

It's a nicely written piece of software, and I really like the way you can enable/disable just about every single feature of it in-game.

I don't have an X45, but I'm using JoyToKey along with NewViews and it works just fine.

You can tell NewView that you don't have any kind of hat on your joystick and it'll ignore hat input entirely. You can also bind the NewView smooth POV panning to keyboard or joystick buttons if you wish.

NewView can support joysticks with up to 4 hats on them - if you have more than one hat, use mouse emulation on one, and tell NewView to use another.

Thanks for the attempted reply.

I tried NewView. It's nice. Some people are really going to like it.

However, I already run hand-rolled Dhauzimmer drivers with a Saitek X-45. The only thing NewView does that my driver doesn't do already is make my head bob around and "look ahead" automatically. Nifty feature, but not worth it in my case. YMMV.

NewView seemed to work really well. People have been gushing over smooth hat panning for ages like it's some kind of secret treasure that nobody knows about. Are people living under rocks? Well folks, NewView is a SUBERB way to get out from under that rock! Seriously people, if you're not smooth panning, yu0 = teh n00b.

New View is an excellent piece of software. If I ever switch stick drivers I may decide to use it. S!

Yes, you can disable NewView by deleting its files.

If you have a real TrackIR system attached to your machine, you may possibly need to re-install the TrackIR software afterwards.

Yes. Simply remove the DLL, remove config.exe, and set trackIRUse=0 in conf.ini.

Obviously there's a point of diminishing returns when using NewView - if you have a X45 + real TrackIR system I doubt there's much point in using it :>

Few other things NewView does, don't know if your current setup can do 'em or not:

Look ahead with stick [as you mentioned].

Look to a specific point in the cockpit via a key or button - check 6, mirrors, instruments etc.

Control acceleration of the POV hat movement - press your hat in a direction for a short time and it'll move a fraction of a degree, hold it down and it'll speed up as it moves.

Snap back to the gunsight view via buttonpress.

Automatic 360 view scanning - set a button to this and your view will automatically pan from left to right, probably useful in Full Real servers to save your POV hat thumb from wearing out ;>

Use "UrGear" helmet emulation to assign a different physical joystick just to control your view - I had this bound to an analogue stick on my TM Firestorm gamepad and it's great.

Use the "button generator" to make a single button on your stick do two different keyboard controls - one will be pressed when you press the stick button, the other when you release the stick button. I have this bound to FOV zooming so I can switch between gunsight view and wide view when I'm actually firing the guns. If you've got a two stage trigger on your stick that'd be an excellent binding :>

Obviously if you have an advanced joystick with good control software, then you could probably do some of these things with that, but as you said, NewView's a pretty good way to get a lot of these things working in FB without too much effort.

If you do not have TrackIR or don't have smooth panning set up, NewView is a must. Check it out, at least.

You're right papote

I've tried NewView. Not bad, but it gives rare sensations.

I also prefer using the mouse as the viewer.

sounds real cool...

doesn't bugger up on-line play on HL or anything like that does it? I'm think of how dl skins muck up things sometimes...

As always, thanks for the info...

I worked with NewView more last night and got the hat switch to pan but it is not smooth, it starts off slow and then speeds up suddenly and I must manually return it back to center.

I will study it more tonight as I am sure it can all be sorted out.

If anyone has already got it all sorted out and would like to share there NPClient.ini file it would be much appreciated.

I am currently using Jetstream100's file with my Saitek Cyborg Gold USB.

Thanks Much , /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Art

Guys,

You can have your cake and eat it too!

NewView has three integrated view modes: NewView, IL2 Snap and IL2 Pan.

See the end of my post here for more info!

http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view.asp?name=us_il2sturmovik_gd&id=yznrq

I have also included more information on how to use the Button Generator since you need it to simulate hat movements in the standard IL2 View modes.

I have also included my latest INI file content in this thread - look for it below.

just gonna chime in w/ my 2 cents...I'm a big fan of this program too. really helps my situation awareness, and kills are "somewhat" up from my previous sorties without this little gem.
the best part? not to sound like a cheap bastard (but i got bills to pay), this program is FREE! oh, the altruism around here really warms the cockles of my heart.
I got my setup with my Thrustmaster Fox 2 Pro Shock and the Nostromo n50 gamepad. I've got my throttle, padlock, NewView toggle for "ahead view", flaps, etc. mapped o the Nostromo. A decent working flight control package for less than 60 USD.
Hooray!

When I hit F9 it switches so I can use the mouse to look around.

I tried also newview but i have already uninstalled it.

I only could look above further nothing.

Yes i have read the helpfile and yes i had
bounded/unbouded keys etc.

Maybe for other users its a great help but
not for me.

After it was refeuled i climbed in.With many manipulations the mechcanics started the turbines.I followed their actions with the greatest of interest. The first one started quite easily.the second caught fire.In no time the whole engine was on fire.Luckily as a fighter pilot i was used to getting quickly out of the cockpit. The fire was quickly put out.The second plane caused no trouble - Adolf Galland (first time in a ME262)

I'm loving it, just installed it and I'm still tweaking and configuring it, but that's most of the fun really! Definitely seems better to me. I use the pinky switch on my X-45 to suspend the joystick view, still trying to work out a perfect system but so far so good.

I use the DEL (NUMPAD - .) key with Return to Center (Instant) and Toggle Joystick Binding assigned to the same key.

Now that I have the INS key set up for a GUNNERY solution, I no longer turn NewView off at all and don't switch back to IL-2 view modes.
