S! All!

RAF74_Taipan and I committed to having Scorched Earth ready for some air-based mini-wars within eight weeks. We made that committment a week ago - so there are seven weeks left until that deadline comes.

The RAF74 Dynamic Campaign System (DCS) is now ready for air operations... I still have to write a coherent web interface for waypoint entry (remember - each side will be defining missions over the Internet so that neither side knows what the other side is doing) before we can use the DCS to run a war, but the program it's self is ready.

And ground warfare is close as well! Taipan and I are working on methodology for routing ground vehicle waypoint movements over roads (like the Full Mission Builder does). Once we have that written, the program will be ready for small-scale ground based wars as well.

That will leave refit and resupply - which will also be done through a web interface.

So the only thing left before the DCS is ready is the ground-vehicle routing system.

And the only other things left before we are ready to launch Scorched Earth are some web-based user interfaces and of course some mini-wars to test everything.

The mini-wars will be starting within seven weeks. The mini-wars will gradually get larger and larger, until we are confident of the whole system. Then Scorched Earth will begin.

For more details - or for a full overview of what Scorched Earth represents - click the picture in my signature. The picture is a link to the Scorched Earth warsite.

RAF, could you please explain to me what is exactly your Dymanic Campaign Generator? What is this all about? It seems quite interesting...

Over at 74 squadron we have 5 years of flying and fighting in both small and large online wars. As sun tzu said. There is no difference between a large and small force- it is merely a matter of deviding up the numbers.

And so it will be with scorched earth. We will devide sectors of the front up and although there will be both ground and air side ops - each sector will be run well/poorly by the squad responsable for that sector of the front.

More to come soon.

BuzzU - I'll let Taipan hit that one. I think the answer is "yes" but I'm not 100% sure - Tai is the rules guy...

Someone asked for a description of the DCS. DCS stands for "Dynamic Campaign System." In a nutshell, it parses one mission into a database, gives great reporting capabilities (and a number of stock reports - though the real "power" of the reportability is the ability to make more reports), and then creates a new mission based entirely on the results from the previous mission (hence the word "dynamic").

Really the RAF74 DCS does far more than that - you are welcome to stop by our website for a broader description... The best thing about the RAF74 DCS is that rather than hold onto it for our own war, we are going to release it free of charge to the community at-large. Anyone who wants to run a 100% dynamic war will be able to do so without having to do any programming.

Scorched Earth is the war we are building it for.

Again though - you can learn everything you want to know about the DCS by clicking the picture of the DCS in my sig - the pic is a link to the Scorched Earth warsite!
