Hi,

Following the Assassin's Creed Call for Contribution launched on www.ubiworkshop.com (http://www.ubiworkshop.com/) a couple of months ago, we are opening this topic to give the opportunity to everyone who have not been selected to share their submission with the community.

Please keep any negative comments to yourself. This is not a place to judge, but to share the excitement we had when we received these entries.

Ukrainian Assassin vs Tatar

My entry for the artbook. A re-imagining of Ukrainian History during 15th century in central Eurasia. They are fighting for freedom.

This is a painting, using water colours and Indian ink.

enjoy!

Here's the piece I made, featuring a futuristic / near-futuristic assassin, complete with hologram targeting and an electrified hidden blade.

Thanks for the opportunity Ubi Workshop - it was a fun prompt, especially being a fan of the game!

And nice job Dimatti!

this is a cool peace. Levi. A very stylistic future, what based technology is his blade?

And i agree with you, Thank you Ubisoft and AC team for giving us an opportunity. Its very gratifying working on a project which is inspired by so much love for the games.

Hi people! I'm Roberto Gomes, from João Pessoa, Brazil, and this was my entry for the Carte Blanche section:

Jade Eyes (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_th6iTJNZ5es/TJAv1wwDsxI/AAAAAAAAADY/RTtyLamOT9o/s1600/Jade+Eyes+PNW.jpg)

Her name is Jade Eyes, and I thought of her being a young Mayan Assasssin who would be special in a lot of ways...beginning for the fact the she has green eyes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks a lot to UbiWorkshop for giving everyone such a fun opportunity for making great artworks! Hope we can have more of this =D

Btw, I'm sure I'll find some incredible artworks around here!

welp those are awesome I am slightly intimidated now but here is my piece anyway

http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/257/e/2/flapper_art_deco_assassin_by_triple6punkie-d2yqs9x.jpg

since I'm in graphic design I opted to do a vector piece instead of traditional art. I decided to do a female assassin from the 1920s because that was an era of opulence and grandeur and I would figure that there would be more people to assassinate in such a time and I also thought it would be interesting to figure out ways to incorporate the assassin weapons and trademarks into the fashion of the time. I did it in the art deco style because well that was the art of the time this would be more of a portrait of an assassin rather than in action.

I'd say it's nose ornaments, for the lack of better term...it's based on the movie Apocalypto and some Mayan references from a book I have http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi, guys!

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2717/237assassinandreabettin.jpg

This is my submission.

An Assassin from late XVIII century India, under the rule of British Empire.
I had a lot of fun customizing some traditional indian dresses into the Assassin's outfit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif The veil in particular was a perfect fit.

Great idea for a contest, really.

I wanted to do something about colonialism too, but the only suitable option by an hystorical point of view seemed India to me.

Oh and no DevArt sorry

You should get on devART. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I didn't really explain the Facebook thing properly, sorry.

It was just a paragraph I typed out describing the character. No artwork involved unfortunately.

Name: Murcuseo 'The Heretic'

Age: 28

Choice of weapon: Long Sword but efficient in hand to hand combat.

Preferred Assassination Type: Strangulation with hands or wire/rope.

Religious Beliefs: Whichever suit his purpose.

Skill & Backstory: Deception and Manipulation.

Born into an extremely religious family in the early 1300's, Scotland. Murcuseo learned at an early age how to manipulate and decieve those around him. He would pray on their hopes and beliefs making them vulnerable to coercion. His silver tongue allows him to get close enough to his targets to be able to strangle or sufficate them. Much like Eagle vision, Murcuseo would be able to sense the level of someones faiths and beliefs both on a visual and extrasensory level. Also adept in reading body language.

I drew a female ninja assassin (see my previous portrait of her). I chose the medieval/feudal era of Japan wherein the clans of samurai warriors and ninja were still at conflict. She was actually a samurai before, but she was betrayed by her own feudal lord. Since then, she decides to retire as a samurai warrior and joined the Assassin's Order and thus became a ninja assassin (kunoichi or female ninja). With the combination of the Bushido code of a samurai and the cunning of a ninja, she's extremely manipulative and calculating.

Media: copic sketch markers, prang and color & co watercolors, white ink, white acrylic paint, Chinese ink, speed/steel pen, faber castell colored pencils, gold and silver gel pens.http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4757/scan00123.jpg

Wow! these are fantastic!
great artists, great works.
I see a lot of digital works but none traditional, or any other disciplines. I know they said you can submit in many mediums, so hope to see more of diversity in that field. digital painting is amazing, but i just hope that traditional artists still can match up to the best of them. I think they show much more skill then the more forgiving digital medium.

please dont take this as dissrispect i love you guys just as much.

Wow, some incredible artwork. I especially like this one:

http://www.admemento.com/images/AC-CarteBlanche.jpg

I do have a small problem with it, though. It's rather unrealistic. The text is clearly Japanese. I'd say that the outfit would likely be completely out of place in feudal Japan. I'd say it looks very Chinese which would stick out and give a lot of unwanted attention in Japan's traditional "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down"-society.

Well, enough nitpicking. From an artistic standpoint I find it incredibly well done.

I actually wanted to participate myself and came up with a prototype (http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/239/5/3/Japanese_Assassin_by_KanpekiJan.jpg) character design (http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/239/e/7/Japanese_Assassin_2_by_KanpekiJan.jpg), but sometime before the deadline I completely forgot about it. Then again, I wouldn't have had a chance, especially due to my poor colouring skills...

I'm a particular fan of the Asian inspired works of art, here. Very well done! I'd LOVE an Assassin's Creed to take place in Japan. I wish there were a way to work in the Occident so we could get out of the oriental hemisphere, though. But I'd give up North and South America for a Japanese AC.

Most of the people who buy Assassins creed are male. So most likely the main character will always be male and I also prefer it that way.

Most of the people who buy Assassins creed are male. So most likely the main character will always be male and I also prefer it that way. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

That's a bit sexist to cater only to the male audience. I myself am male, and I really don't mind either male or female protagonists in a game... look how popular Tomb Raider got with Lara Croft. Women who kick butt are appealing. There's something desirable about an independent woman who can handle herself.

The idea of a female protagonist in Assassin's Creed isn't far fetched as it is known that there are female assassins in the order and it's quite possible Desmond would have a few in his own history

I agree about it being sexist. Not only that, but I don't think that an all male audience only wants a male protagonist. How many men out there pick female archetypes in RPG games? Why? Because a lot of men enjoy seeing a pretty thing that they control on the screen (I say thing because it's only a model made of polygons and textures and not a person). Why do you think the courtesan is so popular a choice? Why do you think they chose to make a female character one you unlock at lvl 17? And women could enjoy having a powerful, independent female character who is central to the story (the protagonist by definition). Why wouldn't you want to cater to both male and female demographics by having a female protagonist?

Maybe it didn't get in because it was deemed historically inaccurate. The text is Japanese, but a person in Japan with that clothing probably wouldn't survive long. That, or that's a Japanese Assassin in China, the clothing looks pretty Chinese to me...

Still incredibly well done, though.

Well, I wouldn't say that it's sexist, really. If it was, Metal Gear, Devil May Cry and lots and lots of other games could equally be deemed sexist, just because they chose using a male protagonist. Of course, Metroid or Tomb Raider would then be equally "offending" to the male gender.

I wouldn't mind a female main character. I personally mostly choose female characters in games when I have the choice (I'm using the Courtesan whenever I can, as well).

Personally I think a plausible theory would be that Desmond in AC3 will visit a variety of ancestors, both male and female, in order to find the locations of the vaults only to travel there himself, in order to do whatever he has to do there. That way, no gender would be offended.

I think many people prefer Male over Female is because we picture the Male role model is more masculine and portrays the "cool and flashy" moves done looks better on a masculine character.
A women who is able to accomplish feats which requires strength and power just dosent look right, because women are more feminine and looks more fragile.

Basically, just saying that a male doing the action movements looks more suitable.

You can call me sexist, but thats just the way I see it...
we wont get any opinions if we call each other sexist for every opinion stated though.

Can't quite agree. With the exception of a few moves that could easily be tweaked, Ezio's moves depend more on acrobatics and speed. Most of these moves wouldn't look wrong used by a woman in anyway, the Courtesan and the Smuggler demonstrate this beautifully.

Indeed.(Although i am yet to be the proud owner of ACB). I think Ubisoft has done a beautiful job with the female assassins and their moves. Only minor figurations would be required IMO. Take the "disarm" moves that Ezio performs on a brute, he literally stops the big guys overhead attack, that would perhaps seem unlikely from a female. But overall they could easily make it work. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There are more than enough ways to disarm a powerful opponent without the use of force. It's all about distance, direction and timing.

i think ubisoft are trying to sell a game on basis other than the desires of hormonal teenagers, having a scadly dressed woman character is the best way to ***** out your game.
theres already a female support character no need for the protagonist aswell.

Why would a female assassin be scantily clad? That would be stupid because naturally she'd need armor to protect herself just like Ezio or Altair. And why should female characters always be supporting characters in games? One big reason more women don't play video games is a severe lack of female protagonists. Personally I'd rather have a girlfriend that will sit and play split screen with me for hours rather than nagging at me cuz I play video games too much.

This is it! This is what Assassin's Creed 3 should be! My friend, you are a visionary! I love that umbrella weapon! What would be great is if that umbrelle replaced the parachute and you coulf float down over a Templar, Mary Poppins style, and then air assassinate him!
The only drawback for me is the bowler hat. I'm rather fond of the beaked hood. Apart from that: brilliant!

In response to the character/sexism discussion, there's only "ism"s where you look for them and try to create them. It's not sexist that there hasn't been a female character yet. No one at Ubisoft sat down and went, "You know what? F*** women. Let's make this character Male, because females are inferior, and much weaker both physically and mentally in comparison to men. If there's any talk about making a female main character, you're fired!".

You can just as easily go, "Ubisoft is racist because there's not a black/asian/native american/south american/indian main character".

But honestly? They weren't thinking about any of that, I'm sure. I'd put money on it. They just whipped up a strong masculine character and went on with it, I'm sure sexism and racism were the very last things on their minds. And infact, for someone's mind to immediately go the racist/sexist route first, usually shows that they're generally racist or sexist themselves, because in order for them to be so easily offended, they have to strongly favor the side they're defending above the other, or at the very least assume that the OTHER is racist/sexist, which in itself is racist or sexist, which is what prompts the immediate defense. There's also people who aren't ACTUALLY offended, they just know that when they hear or read certain things, the TV told them they're supposed to be offended when they encounter it. So, they act offended when really they actually personally aren't at all. They just know that's the reaction they've been told a good, loving, honest person should have, and they don't wanna be seen as anything other than that, even to themselves, so they give a reaction. Their mind goes, "*GASP*! Did you hear what that guy said? Well I'm not racist or sexist, so I should probably say something, because if I don't, it probably means I am for not defending it, and I know I'm not either one of those things, so, off I go to save the day!"

It WOULD be sexist however, if someone sat down and made a female character with the sole intention and mindset that they were making it only because it WASN'T male. There's a difference between the maker of a character saying to someone else, "Oh, yeah, she's a girl!" in passing, and "She's a girl because it's not a man, and women are strong too, and this was my way of showing those male pigs that women are just as adept as them at anything they put their mind to. So hell yeah she's female. No one makes female characters. Why? Because they're sexist ***holes raised by strong-armed alcoholic fathers who tell them a woman's place is only in the kitchen.".. One of those mindsets is sexist, one is not.

Now reverse the roles. Do you think anyone at Ubisoft said the second part of that, just interchanging female with male? The most likely answer is no. That means they're not sexist, and even if they saw these posts, they wouldn't be sexist for NOT making a female character in the future either. They're not BEING sexist to begin with, and it's their company, with their designers, their ideas, and their story lines. It's free for them to do whatever they want with, and they're not sexist or racist for not catering to your wants because you think that their idea should be changed to identify with everyone, when they personally want to touch on one subject. It's actually selfish and repressive for people to demand that an artist/writer change their vision to benefit them personally. And again, you'd have to BE sexist or racist to call them one of the two in the first place, because you automatically make them out to be a villian where you assume THEY are sexist/racist just because they're the opposite sex or race. So by automatically assuming that they are racist/sexist because they are the opposite sex/race, you're in effect being racist or sexist towards them. Does that make any sense? I could try to word it better but that's the best I can come up with off the top of my head right now. If they want their character to be male, then it'll be male, and it doesn't mean they're being sexist at all.

It's like if I write a book about an uneducated black gang-banger who smokes crack and rapes white women and spits on white people everywhere he goes and beats other blacks when he thinks they're being "uncle toms". Or if I write a book about a well-educated white man who had his education paid for by his rich father, who hates blacks and frequently uses the N-word and uses his money, education, and power to ensure that blacks are stripped of all 3 soley because he hates them not for their actions, but because they look different. That doesn't mean that *I* am racist because I wrote the book. It means that the CHARACTER, *IN* my book is racist, and is not representative of me in any way, shape, or form. If you want to hate him, fine, that's your call. Infact, I might even make a character like that because I DO want you to hate him! And I do want it to provoke certain feelings out of you! He is a person within that world, unrelated to the person that created the persona.

I mean, seriously, the whole politically correct bull**** is ruining countries. Please stop it. We can't even openly TALK about stuff because the second someone opens their mouth, they're called racist/sexist/some kind of "ist". The power/money hungry elite in the world, the "Templars" (Illuminati, which trace back to the Knight's Templar which is what the Templars in this game are named after, and they did the same vile actions back then that they're doing now, along with groups like them).. Well, those groups that you are actually FIGHTING IN THIS GAME, have CREATED these "isms" in real life to supress you, and all of us. To keep us fighting, to keep us slandering each other with "isms" everytime a topic comes up, so that we go, "Come on now guys, let's just stop this", and drop the whole conversation and ignore the original points.

It's created, meant, and designed, to silence us, which it's doing a *VERY* good job of. The only way to get our voice back and actually talk about sh** that's really going on, is to completely get rid of these "isms" and crying them out everytime someone has something to say. While we're sitting here killing off every conversation through calling the other guy some kind of "ism", the elites of the world are sitting back and laughing to themselves, revelling in how unbelievably easy it was for them to take and do whatever they hell they wanted right under our noses because we were too busy attacking each other through throwing "ism"'s at each other, that we never actually sat down and looked at what's going on, figuring it out, and then rebelling against these thieving elite. They do the same thing with the Republican/Democrat war. Keep us fighting so they can freely steal and enslave behind the "smoke bomb" while we're still in our "coughing fit".

Everytime you use an "ism", you are giving them more power. Please stop, for our own good, before we're COMPLETELY enslaved instead of just 70% there.

Yes, I'm so sick of "ism" do you know how boring Mexico would be with political correctness my friend catcalled a girl on the street "Tetas Grandes" which literally means Big t*ts, she didn't slap him with law suit she laughed and went on her merry way, people are way to sensitive in America and over half these lawsuits are most likely a way to make a quick buck to the people it is so stupid, we people in America just need to calm our asses down and we would find its alot better that way

Wow! There's quite a few incredibly talented artists here. I've enjoyed all of this, especially the female assassins. I hope that Ubisoft makes a game with a playable female assassin... not just multiplayer but as the protagonist for the single player campaign. Why does Desmond's assassin ancestors all have to be male?

Most of the people who buy Assassins creed are male. So most likely the main character will always be male and I also prefer it that way. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

That's a bit sexist to cater only to the male audience. I myself am male, and I really don't mind either male or female protagonists in a game... look how popular Tomb Raider got with Lara Croft. Women who kick butt are appealing. There's something desirable about an independent woman who can handle herself.

The idea of a female protagonist in Assassin's Creed isn't far fetched as it is known that there are female assassins in the order and it's quite possible Desmond would have a few in his own history </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

A female assassin wouldn't be appropriate to Desmond's story. While it isn't even the slightest bit sexist they've explained that a subject who takes on the memories of an ancestor of an opposing sex would only serve to become, more quickly,...insane? I suppose you would say. Unless UBI chose to do some alternate series in which desmond's role was replaced with that of a woman in another storyline I don't believe we'll ever see a female assassin protagonist nor one in which it takes place in an era of modernized guns and cars save for 2012. They're not being sexist at all, you have lucy and Rebecca who are both strong, empowered women, and a very masculine lead character. Ubi is not being sexist, racist, or anything of the sort. You are simply choosing to accuse them of such
