Part 5

We begin with a true classic from the brand Mercedes-Benz: the Unimog. Here are a bunch of Unimog's, most of them the "farm type" 1950s 401 and one 406 (beginning 1971).

No idea what this "FK" truck is...

For the World War II fanatics. The German equivalent of the US Army Jeep: the Volkswagen Kübelwagen Type 82.

Another German "Jeep" from World War II, the Volkswagen Typ 166 "Schwimmwagen". The vehicle could operate on land and on water. I believe it had an AWD layout and was also a good offroader. My rear shot was terrible because the sunlight shone in from the front making the rear pitch black. Flash didn't help much either. At the rear this car has a small propeller for propulsion in water.

I always enjoy hearing "car enthusiast" (mostly idiotic Lexus fanboys) claim that Fiat and the French cars (Renault, Peugeot, Citroen and sometimes Simca or Talbot) have never made "beautiful cars". Yeah, they're soooooo right....

Sweet!

There's a Hanomag in Bad Staffelstein used as an emergency vehicle, similar to an ambulance. Something I always thought was cool about that particular truck was the way the roof over the passenger's side was designed to hold a small gun turret. Next month I'll gets a few pics of it for you.

There is a guy in my neighbourhood who has a Unimog as his daily driver. For myself I think that a Schwimmwagon would be a very useful vehicle. No more lines at the local bridges. Yah! I think my Brother in law had a Jaguar like that when he was younger. He cracked the block. I think he still misses that car.

My favorite Hanomag is the Halftrack from World War II. Sdkfz 251 I think. They look so cool. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Are you in China or Germany right now?

Well that BMW was the 600, which technically is not a 1-Series forefather. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

By the way, this is a VW Thing.

So that's really a Kübelwagen. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Were Unimog's ever sold in North America?

Your brother had a great car. Those older Jaguars are stylish. I don't like the design direction Jaguar is currently taking. The new XF looks too much like a boring Lexus GS. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

I think the Unimogs are so cool. They're like Swiss army knives that you can drive. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Have you seen the Unimog used as a railyard shunter?

Here's a few Unimog applications: http://www.answers.com/topic/unimog

But that doesn't mean I agree with my opinion. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'd love to have that parked in my driveway. Hell,... I'd even love to have a driveway.

Really, that is a chick-magnet. My wife likes it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
