View Full Version : GPS System - Why did they ruin the game with it?!

Excuse the hyperbole in the thread title. AC is far from ruined, but the default setup for playing the game really ruins the experience of the title, imho.

Without the GPS you begin to notice patterns, both visually and aurally, which not only explain the repetition (i.e. training for pattern recognition) but enhances the immersion to an insane degree.

For example, when I started this game I slighted Ubisoft for making all the viewpoint towers and Assassin Bureaus in the cities look the same. Seemed cheap. However, with the GPS off those forms of visual repetition help the mind quickly lock onto them without the need of a map. If I want to find the bureau in a city I can just climb to a high vantage point and visually scan for it.

Also, I never noticed till I turned off the GPS that informers were always located in plazas and pick pocket placements followed a similar sense of logic. I was running from point A and B without taking in the atmosphere and it really made the game feel shallow. However, now that I have the HUD off I can saunter around the town, learning, observing and most importantly discovering things along the way.

Discovering "save citizen" mission by sound alone is much more rewarding than just aiming towards it on the HUD.

This game is AMAZING without the HUD (though definitely paced slower - more like Oblivion).

You are what i call, a true gamer.
most people just buy the game, finish it, rant about it, and dont see the point of the game till theyre married with 3 kids.

Its not just a game, its an experience and a challenge http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hmm..
This is either one of the following cases...
- OCD
- Self challenger
- A teenager with too much time on his hands...
- A 40 year old virgin.

Definitely one of those, I'll leave it up to your imagination. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Seriously though, the game was designed without the HUD, and it becomes patently obvious once it gets disabled. The game doesn't just get more difficult, it also gets more rewarding.

small children cry and get frustrated when they cannot figure the game out so ubi has put the gps in for those people and for the rest of us who want to take it off can.
