As a keen collector of Aviation photographs, I am always on the look out for ways to obtain more. Those I have already have been either collected from books and aviation magazines, or picked up from my many trawls of the web. Some have been given from friends/customers own private snaps that are very often a much more intimate and pleasing rendition of the subject than that of an €œofficial€ photo€¦

With this in mind I would like to ask forum members that have any pictures of Aircraft or Aircraft and Crew, or anything else connected with the First or Second World Wars of any Nationality, taken by their Parents or Grand parents to allow them to be posted here. Perhaps, any story or historic information pertaining to them could also be posted with them that would help to bring them back to life€¦

I know it sounds a bit of a cheek to ask! But this way part of their family history can be shared by all and will not be left to moulder in a draw somewhere, forgotten by all€¦http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

What do you think?

Mods...Can we sticky this? I love this idea!

I'm remodeling the basement, and everything is discombobulated, and my scanner is buried in a box somewhere. So I can't post my father's WWII pics yet. I guess I could go ahuntin' on the web, but that's not really the point here.

Are you only looking for allied stuff? I got some nice pics waiting for me in Bamberg but I won't have a chance to get them for a few weeks.

The grandfather of a buddy of mine flew bombers in the LW. His family saved a lot of interesting photos. These photos have never been published but they gave me permission to post them on the web.

Nope, any nationality, any AirForce Pirschjaeger... The only thing to remember is they have to be from either the First/Second World War and they have to be Aviation orientated. That said, just about anything goes!

Ok, how do these sound:

A postcard from Hitler congratulating my buddy's grandfather on his 10,000 bombing mission.

A pic of an He111 taken from the cockpit of another He111.

His crashed He111 where unbelievable no one was hurt.

I can't remeber the rest, but they were quite interesting.

Write thisThen your picture url, just say for intance...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/wayno77/Airshow6-4-05hHurricaneInflightb.jpg

Then finish off with this

Sec, I have about 2 gigs of pics on my other pc. I've been collecting over the last 4 years. I'm in Germany right now and won't be back in China for another 3 weeks. I was thinking that the best way, if you are interested, would be if I burned them to cd's or dvd's and mailed them to you directly. If you wanna go this route send me a private message with your mailing address.

I would think so, but only submit those of a reasonable quality - And rarity, other wise it's not worth the effort.

The original request was for picture's taken by relative's of aviation interest in either the First or Second World War...

Any others must be for their rarity or interest.

These original photos in my collection relate to a trainee Luftwaffe pilot in a Heinkel 111. The trainee is to the right of the picture (Starboard side). Not that the control yoke has been swung from its normal position on the port side to accomodate the trainee. The instructor has written comments in ink on the reverse in German similar to...."The student pilot is sweating now with beads of perspiration, but he will sweat more before the flight has ended!".

I've got a few more if anyone is interested.

This is an original German press photo dated 26.8.1940 from France during the Battle of Britain and relates to the crew of a He 111 and the KG commander. The rear of the photo in German wishes them 'safe return'.

Nice! Please post some more. I've been trying to find some good Luftwaffe photos but they are hard to come by these days. e-Bay seems to have dried up as of late. I did get a nice photo of a Halifax this week though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

MrBlueSky, impressing pics, I love that model of the Halifax , Skuas are not also too often seen. What was that boat anyways?
Secudus, great Halifax pics; there were other heavies than Lanc and B-17/B-24, a time to learn for everybody.
Is that last one Wellington geodetics? One point in the 'Dam Busters' movie is when Barnes Wallis wonders if he can borrow a 'Wimpey', another character says 'How can you get that?' and Wallis answers:'I designed it'.

Found these last year on internet.
They are from a calendar ( made for 1942 ).
A german pilot in Danmark left this behind in the hotel he had stayed in. He went to the eastern front. Only recently the old lady who owned the hotel "disovered" it again!!!
I only saved these 3 pics, found these the best.

Good stuff thanks for sharing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I would like to submit something to this worthy thread so perhaps this would be appropriate?

I came across this page whilst re-searching my Granfather's part in WW2 (he Served in the Gordon highlanders and was captured by the Japanese during the events around Singapore and Malaya).

Whilst not directly connected with Aircraft or my Granfather it is an iteresting account of the regiments role in the events surrounding D-Day.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Sadly very little, I know he was a prisoner at Changi for a while and ended up working in a lead mine in japan before his liberation at the end of the war but I am afraid he died long before I was born.

Most of the affects he left are in the posession of my Uncle (who also served as a Gordon highlander although much later) I don't have any scans as yet.

However I do intend to compile some kind of collection in digital format the next opertunity I get to visit my uncle and Grandmother up north.

There was a little black book that he brought back from his time in prison with signatures/phrases written by some of his fellow inmates if I recal correctly.

I will see if I can dig something up

This link provides a little background to how he and his fellow soldiers ended up as 'guests' of the Emperor.
