I thought we might get a chuckle from some of the stories of breathtaking idiocy that take place online. I think to make this fun, we should keep the names of the guilty anonymous.

A recent one for me, and all to common online, is the guy who flew directly between me and the plane I was shooting, and yelled (CAPS) to stop shooting him. And of course I was feted with the insult du jour: "nOOb".

What is it with these guys? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

my personal favorite was when I blew the tail completely off a P-39 and then as he spun down like helicopter I kept circling and circling him trying to kill him some more. the entire time the guy kept taking pot shots at me with his 37mm gun. he was spinning down from 3000+ meters so it took a while. at around 1,500 meters he finally got off a 37mm that struck my plane and killed my pilot http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

so I get the "pinheads of the air award" for trying to kill a dead guy deader http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I know what you mean, I love watching 1 red being chased by 4 blues, and off in the distance are 3 reds getting altitude, they could all take one plane and duke it out instead of risking shooting each other. I can't stand the guy that cuts in front of you when he's most well aware that you are on his 6, im a jerk for doing this but I will shoot my teammate, hopefully he will learn not to cut in front of a fight!

Ok, I had to chip in here.

I've only flown Full Real online recently.

So, I was flying this ground attack mission - but I got lost for a while, eventually found the target area, saw no targets ... and then ...

I see a Mig on my tail ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I panic ! I jettison my bombs !
Break hard left, but pull too hard on the stick. Lose control, become disoriented and auger in.

Watched the track today and ... I was #3 in a flight of 4.

Seems I had an AI wingman...

That has to be worth a "pinhead of the air" award.

LOL! classic...

I've done the same thing on an online dogfight, some friendly chap does the decent thing and decides to cover me... I see him coming up from behind think he's an enemy, freak out and take violent evasive maneouvers, finding myself unable to shake him I hit the deck..there we both get jumped by a pair of 109's and go down flaming. When I realised the guy was my wing, ...whoa that was embarrasing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Great stuff fellas. You've captured the spirit of what I was after: just funny stories of airborne pinheadiness http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Here's my pinhead moment: while flying Zekes vs. Wildcats (which now has no icons) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif A plane with alt advantage turned to dive on me, or so I thought. I raised the nose of my Zeke, and fired. He lowered the nose of his.... Zeke, and killed me. I get a two-for-one pinhead award here: 1. For not waiting to ID the guy 2. for MISSING him! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

How about the rest of you? Do you have what it takes to be a (echo effect) PINHEAD -OF-THE-AIR!!! (end echo effect). Don't by shy. Release your inner pinhead!

Back when FB was in it's earliest form (1.21 version) I distinctly remember the P-40 diving bug, where it'd explode at 500 kph. Nevertheless, I used the P-40 quite successfully online. But the best was when I exceeded the 500kph limit, and my plane exploded. The pieces of shrapnel from my P-40 hit the plane i was diving after, and shredded his wing.

I still got the kill.

Is that Pinheaddy or what?

I'm kinda partial to the "chasing my own shadow right into the ground trick".

A few nights ago I was chasing a bandit at low altitude and started to overshoot. As I overtook him I rolled to try to maintain eye contact and my shadow appeared right where I expected him to. I took off after myself and as he no doubt flew off chuckling, I came within a few feet of writing off another P-63.

To the four guys a few months ago who, after downing my FW190D-9 (crash landed), straffed the already broken plane. Except all of them crashed within a few feet of me...they all could have been living...no immediate danger. But they all died instead. Stupid http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ooohhhh.. this one might be good.
I was flying online awhile back, when i was starting to do a headon with a bogey, all the while one of his buddies was on my 6. Anyway, all three of us were shooting at each other and my head-on opponent didnt look like he was going to give ground, so rather than hit him, i veered off at the last second. So happens the 2 "buddies" not only shoot each other, but collided headon and exploded. I on the other hand managed to get away with minor damage. This not only happened once, but twice. I give the pinhead award to the 2 guys who tried to get me from each end and ended up getting each other... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Speaking of shooting at shadows... Awhile back I was patrolling at 12,000ft in a P-47D-27 over a furball waitng for someone to break away & make a run for it. Everyone but me was down around 2,000 ft fighting it out when I rolled left, looked over my wingtip & noticed what appeared to be a sleek little 109 attempting to sneek home. I chopped my power & put the nose down into a steep dive leading him just enough so when I came into gun range those 8 50's would ventilate him real good. At about 6,000 feet he made a left bank and was close to the deck. I was trying to keep the jug steady & wipe the drool from my mouth as I closed on him. It was scarcely cloudy but I did enter a cloud and exit the bottom side of it doing 530mph. I had lost sight of him going into the cloud but he had no idea I was coming to chainsaw his little airplane. As I exited the cloud I regained my sight of him, a small dark sillouette hugging the deck. As I went guns hot on him I didn't see any hits on him. I found this somewhat curious & it was then right as I squeezed another burt off that I bore a hole into the earth as far as a jug would go. WTF! I thought, then I realized, the plane I was after was gone. I was diving on my own shadow!!!
Pinhead award for me! Hold the applause.

Here's another. In this case I was witness to some über-pinheadedness.

I was in a P-40 and had a pair of enemy a/c on my tail, low over water headed north toward Tulagi. They were solidly on my six, but not accurate with their guns. I was twisitng and turning like mad with tracer shooting past me and figured my only chance would be to firewall it until I got over the island where I would be less visible and more likely to shake them off.

We soon made landfall together. I had taken a few hits - nothing critical, but their accuracy was improving and I figured my time was short. I was using the P-40's mirror to keep an eye on them when suddenly a fireball erupted behind me as - I assume - they collided. As they say: the silence was deafening.

I felt like I had just won the lottery. After at least five solid minutes of heart-pounding flying, I happily dropped my RPMs to 2300, throttled back to about 50%, opened my cooling shutters and set a course back to Guadalcanal where I landed without incident.

Here's another for you guys.

Background: Me in a p-38 j, opponent in a mid-late 109. Average fight altitude was around 20k feet (multiplayer, but not your average online game). I had a significant altitude AND speed advantage + the element of suprise.

So, I dove on him doing maybe 100-200 mph faster than he was and opened fire at about 750 meters and kept firing to like 500 meters. His wing was on fire, engine dumping black smoke, and I thought I caught a glimpse of his canopy popping off. Basically a perfectly executed attack. Anyways, for one reason or another ( I don't know why), I decided to just kinda ease down under him and zoom on by. Just as I was only a few meters from below him, his ****ed fuel tank exploded. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

As I remember, my damage was something like 1 engine totally out, aeriolons totally ripped off, banged up elevator, missing a rudder, oil leak in my good engine, guns all jammed, and to top it all off, a ****ed fuel leak. Limped home, last engine died on approach (no fuel) but somehow managed to get it on the ground intact. Although in reality the plane probably would have to be scrapped.

I remember bailing out of a shot-up and uncontrollable 109. Ended up captured and out of curiosity I kept watching my 109 to see it crash. I had left it with full power almost and the bloody thing made it back over friendly territory.

I often find myself at the lead of a congo train, problem is everybody behind me is on the other team http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

usually due to the fact that I passed up on joining the congo train that my team was on.

I began taking the corsair with 2 x 1000lb bombs and 1 x 2000lb bomb. I save them for congo trains. .75-1.25 second delay usually works good. its a blast to watch 3-5 enemy congo train luvin a/c go down

Classic one: while in HE111 (2x2000SC) I saw two enemy fighters closing on my six. I immediately throttled 110% and nose down.. they did not give up. I was in desperate attempt to reach friendly territory and possibly met friendly fighters that will help me. But no luck and the two on my tail weren't giving up the chase. As they come near (I don't know maybe .40-.50k) I jettisoned those nasty SCs at almost treetop level.(delay on 2,5s).
Of course those eager guys did not react a bit. 2,5sec. later they were disintegrated. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Tales of stupidity?

Ok, here€s mine (one of many obv., but the one that sticks out the most.)

This one€s from a couple of months ago, when Warclouds was in one of its 1 deathkick phases. To set the scene, I don€t get much stick time and so I€m not the most prolific pilot:

I was going through a great purple p*tch. Flying on comms, and everything going right, I€d had 3 kills and no deaths in 2 consecutive sorties, when there was a map change. I took off again was soon patrolling the western approaches to Florida at about 12,000€. After a short time I see a dot trying to sneak past. Dropping down for the bounce I see it€s an Anton, eyes fixed on the Furball over the target. First shot tags him; he breaks left and I pull perfect lead, the dream shot, and fill his cockpit full of shells.

Straight after pleasantries have been exchanged with the unfortunate FW driver, (one of the DEY boys iirc) I hear over TS of a P-38 in trouble on the deck near my locale. Howling down into the mist I spy a Bf making for home. With good E and position I€m soon on his tail and hosing his wing off. That makes 5! (**** good for me)

I can€t find the 38 and, since I€m past bingo fuel (had 25% and tank) and almost Winchester so I high-tail it home, but just as I line up for final, the engine coughs and dies. No problem, I set it down in a field with a perfect belly flop. :

And then, for some reason, I decide to bail out. No real reason to, I think it was just for the look of it. Unfortunately the plane was still moving.

A moment later, I€m back in HL p***in€ meself.
