Guys,

Of the airshows I've seen in recent years here in England (Duxford, Biggin Hill etc.), one thing I've always wanted to see is a Messerschmitt BF109 (or any other German fighter for that matter!)

Does anyone know of UK airshows that do have German fighters, or plan to show them in the future?

I personally would love to see Spitfires and Hurricanes flying around with 109's. We've all seen the chase scenes in the movies, so why not at an airshow? I'm sure this is done in the USA.

The only German planes I've seen here (from WW2), was a Storch (which never flew), and a bi-plane trainer. They both had the swastika on them too, so they can't be refusing to fly German planes for 'politically-correct' reasons.

Look forward to any info you might have.

Cheers!

The one and only "real" Bf109 'Black 6', was badly damaged at Duxford several years ago. They have stated it will not fly again due to it's unique value. Read about it here:-

The Black6 story is a sad one.I was told by a 'friend in the know' that she was the subject of an insurance scam. Obviously, she was heavily insured as a very rare flying aircraft and the insurance company duly paid out the cost of rebuilding the plane to flying condition (i'll leave you to guess at the figure!)
When the owners realised that they would have a few quid left over(?) if it was rebuilt to static condition......??
Well, you get the picture.Like i say, this is third hand information so i dont know how true it is,it could be BS,but knowing what goes on in the warbird scene it wouldn't surprise me/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

well actually the Black 6 was restored to airworthy condition but eventaully was stored in the Hendon Museum. A wise choice? maybe, expecially if u consider the importance and rarity of the exemplar, of course she won't have the same appeal as she had when roaring over our heads...
another plane that could be made airworthy but is kept grounded is the Me410 Hornisse at Cosford, i know that once in a while the technicians take it out and turn on the DBs for some minutes, just to keep them alive...

Black 6 is definitely not in an airworthy condition. When I was last up at the RAF Museum (April of this year) I asked if she was airworthy or if she is ever likely to be airworthy.Unfortunately the answer to both is no, she's too badly damaged.
If anyone has any better and more recent news about this fantastic aircraft, I'd love to hear it.

I remember seeing a 109 and a Spit doing a 'mock' dogfight at Coventry Airshow years ago, when it used to be good - awesome stuff /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

a similiar thing happened to "Black X" the Australian me262 .. the museum dismantled it for transport or some such then decided it was "historically more valuable" in the dismantled state. (see the photos)

I live near the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville Oregon USA - I know its not the UK - sorry - but they do have flyable Aircraft from WW2 - Like a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk - a Supermarine Spitfire MK. XVI and a P-51D - P-38 - FG-1D Corsair and a Messerschmitt BF 109 G - 10 Gustav - Pluss other great planes including the Spruce Goose
I am also going to post this in the Paint Schemes Forum incase someone needs some Pic's of thses aircraft when I go there again .

Awwww I reckon we should push the AWM to at least rebuilding Black X to a static display. Who's gonna wann go look at a busted up plane. Seeing that thing built and finished in a nice camo scheme would be way way better. maybe they think "germany was devastaed, so why not have the plane in the same way?"

All us aussies.... lets get in contact with the AWM and get them to restore that 262.
