I am refering to the Zeke vs Wildcat server. From the title, you can guess that it deals with the Pacific War. Settings are full real. Other than having to waste time to ID aircraft before letting loose is somewhat annoying for a DF server, but other than that, its Cool! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Because visibility is limited with no icons and no externals, it is actually possible to attack or get attacked and then to lose tally and be alone in the air. Something that is does not happen much in the arcades...

Other than maybe having friendly icons, IMHO, it is pretty realistic... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

full switch is the only way to go.

If you are scared you won't be able to ID, rest assure: you will learn it in a jiffy, and it is very rewarding

While I'm not a big fan of D/F servers in general (more of a co-op guy), I have found Zekes to be a good server to fly on.

Try their other server, if it's still up, Spits vs 109's. Plenty of good action there as I recall.

There are many more full switch servers than in the past. So, if that's your cup of tea, have a look around H/L and see what there is on tap.

Cheers,

I don't get to play much....wife.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

I agree, in general, I am a coop guy too, problem is, its tough to find Early and mid PTO servers. I am making a couple of coops dealing with Khalkhin Gol and the Flying Tigers in Burma..being somewhat creative with the maps provided.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As for icons, for a df server IMHO it is needed just so as not to waste too much time, but as F19 says: it is rewarding and alot of fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Hi, Ive been flying the Zekes v Wildcats server for just over 2yrs and I would just like to point out, although its titles as a DF server in HL all of the missions are objective based ie you can win the map sinking all the ships or destroying the ground targets.
ZvW caters for all tastes and it doesnt take that long to learn aircraft identification

I concurr about objective oriented missions.

There are loads of DF servers out there, but in my opinion very few can show mission quality equal to those of warbirdsofprey (Zeke vs Wildcat and Spit vs 109 servers). Might I ask for more early PTO though please? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It is important to remember though, that the people flying the missions and on the servers, are the ones that define how much you appreciate flying on those particular servers. Do they shouldershoot? Do they cooperate? Do your teammates cover your six when you are trying to get a kill, instead of breaking in infront of you and "take over"? Are they focused on the objectives?

I would say that most guys (and gals) who fly on Zeke and Spit falls into the category "good teammates", and that is the major reason why it is a blast to fly there. Lately however there has been a new crowd who still fly "arcade" and don't give a damn about teamwork. I prefer to look at them as "un-educated" and even if I let loose a foul remark once and awhile when I bump into them, I guess we just have to tell them about "rules of conduct" and things will get better http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

About icons again. I promise, fly without them and soon you will be able to discern enemies and foes from a large distance.

A final word though. CORRECT MARKINGS please http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif it would indeed be nice to be able to fly in some type of formation, I myself would gladly fly wingman in the interest of a realistic experience.

well mate, if you join ZEKE's or SPIT's when F19 and F16 are fying together, I am ceratin you will find a nice spot. We love flying close formation, (anal formation we call in as some of us have a tendancy to get too close eachother's rear http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

sorry..lost the nice 10 man VAL formation from zeke...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

the other day we had a nice 9 man formation in zeros on Pearl Harbour map on Zeke's, with bombs. I tell you, as a solo fighter it is very intimidating to meet such a formation http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

F19:

I thought you were referring to a Coop, or squad training or something. I have played DF for years on HL and never saw anybody fly in a formation other than maybe the occasional rare pair...

well.. thats why we are in there.. to dominatehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
That's why I like these full switch servers so much. Lots of people in squadrons are there, and cooperation.

Zeke and Spit also provide a Teamspeak server which makes it easier to communicate with your teammates. We are seldom there as we often talk on our own server, but if you show up on their servers alone, I definately suggest you to join the TS server.. Also, if you are alone and you are not used to ID planes without icons, flying in a group on TS you can get some help id'ing

read more on http://www.warbirdsofprey.org

these days we also fly quite a lot on by.sturmovik.de II . full switch server as well.

A well managed server does not at all mean Arcade or Quake like experiences... twirl and shoot. To actually have an objective and to cooperate makes everything so much more fun.

To me, having to ID a plane is rush enough to keep me playing there.

I love getting the feeling of looking at the siloute of a plane, and recognizing it for a certainn feature...and then when you finally get a good look at it and at its markings..realizing you were right!

Also, coming in screaming into a dogfight where all you see are dots, and you have to pick your target through tracer fire or saddle on one and hopee its enemy is great.

Then there is the whole aspect of flying as wingman to a squad mate of yours...it adds a whole different level of dimensions.

Glad you are enjoying it, they are a great bunch of people!

Zekes rocks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif. Seriously though, there is a great crew there, who are more than happy to help out and the objective based missions are just great, it's a real sense of accomplishment to be a part of your team winning a map.

I too can't reiterate strongly enough the benefit of getting on the proper TS channel. Most servers offer TS channel for its pilots and too often there are 40 pilots on the server and 4 on TS. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I know there are some squads that use their own TS (like F19) and there are others that feel their english is too weak. The cultural diversity is one of the aspects I most enjoy about this sim. I can usually understand even the most broken english (and speak Spanish). I can communicate with just about anyone and, believe me, the fun-factor and teamwork both go up exponentially when TS is used effectively.

I too enjoy the WoP servers and find that I fly only about 4-5 servers exclusively anymore. Now if more people would fly on HISTORIA.
