Now, let me make it clear this is NOT RL we are talking about. I don't CARE if it's 'porked', so there. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Also, ground-pounding does not enter into it. Neither does range, however so not to handicap the US fighters you can declare the fuel load.

Here's my guestimate:

Russia
I prefer the Yak9U to the La7 3x20 or Yak3; but which is best in the game?

USA
P-51D-NA all the way (25% fuel)

Germany
Bf109K climb rate edges out 190D 44/A-8/9 tie

Miscellaneous (Japan, UK, Romania etc)
Spit IXe HF edges out Ki-84 30mm
(Btw, which incarnation of the UFO-IX is best?)

Overall:
1. Spit IX... ...much as I hate to admit it
2. 190/109/Yak9U/Ki-84
3. P51

What was the most common dogfight height in RL (oops, I referred to it) and what is the most common in-game? I'm pining for some in-game stat comparisons (Robban, hint hint http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif )

i prefer the VIII over IX, seems a smidge better all round http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

best spit depends on how u fly and at what height..

LF = low alt fighter, but IX LF is good at all heights,
HF high alt fighter, worse down low but better up high...
cliped wings give u faster roll, bit better speed at low alt

irl fights took place at all alts http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

in RL it depended on the front and period.
for example on EF the main battle was under 3000m due to the more tactical nature of the warfare. Over Britain, during BoB, i think most fights ocurred somewhere around 3000m, while near the end of the war, on the WF the common alt went up to 10000m.

I personally would take the SpitVIII over the IX because it is more agile... climb's equal to a Bf109G2 and speed is slightly better

The best A6M fighter is prolly the 5b, best Ki61... well either the Otsu (4xHMG - enough most of the times) or the Kai (little overweight in my eyes)

Anyway, what I dont get is why people take a Bf109G6/AS over a G10 or K4... the G10 for example does everything the /AS does but better; it's faster, climbs better and is equally manoeuvrable. The K4 is a tad less manoeuvrable but gives you even more of that speed and climb http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Persoanally, if I had to pick one plane it would be the 109K with the La7 close behind. The 109k has a one hit cannon, and a rediculous climb rate. You should never get in trouble with a climb rate like that. I also love the gauges in it. One fast glance and you can read them easily.

My list of the three top fighters (prop.-driven) ingame would be:

- Bf109K4
- La7
- P51D-20NA

Of course having some alt and speed is vital to your success in the Mustang. If you're able surprise your enemy you will just need one pass to kill him... no matter what enemy. I've lately flown on a full-real server with Nagasaki scenario. P51s, Jugs and Corsairs vs Ki61 Hiens and Ki84 Hayates. Killed 2xKi84 and 1xKi61 in a single flight - none of them even knew I was there until their plane was hammered by gunfire and broke into several large pieces

What makes flying US and/or Brit birds a l'il difficult for me is the fact that they use the imperial measurement system which I cant figure out what to do with

America
P-51 Family
Corsair
P-39 (talking in game, in real life the P-39 wouldn't even be on the list and the P-47 would be running kneck and kneck with the Mustang but sadly in game there isn't much opportunity for it to shine)

Britain
Spits (VIII, then IX, then V)
Hurrican IIc
Beau (not enough British birds in game)

Russia
La 7
Yak 3
I-16

Germany
Fw 190 A-6
BF 109 K4
Fw 190 A-9

Japan

Just fly 'em until you get a feel for what numbers mean what. Even though us Americans deal with the metric system a bit it doesn't feel intuitive to me whatsoever. But, playing this game, I've been able to to get a bit of "feel" for what speeds are good for what.

One thing though, 500kmh really sounds fast to me.

Of course, I could just toggle measurements on the speed bar or I could convert everthing on paper before I fly. Nah!

(Then the whole statute miles and nautical miles thing makes it worse, huh?)

Do you know why we still use the measurement system we have? Fractions. Just to learn fractions. 1/4 inch, 5/32 inch, and so on. It's a mathematical conspiracy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Agree, at low altitudes it is approximately the same, but above 5000m it looses at least 20kph. And with MW50 boost! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

In general this is true. Anyway, how about a match: Me in 1944 dora or A9 and you in 1945 A6M7 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif
