I've been thinking the same thing lately, ecxcept knowing the limitation of the demos, I'm planning on installing IL-2 out of the box and FB out of the box again someday.

Oh, to fly that wicked bad Hurri Mk IIc from FB V1.0 again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Hmmmm funny you should ask this, I had lots of the FB / Lock On Press packs that Ubi released but pre FB i offered them for free to people I knew on UbiCom and sent them off to several people in several countries at the time, I probably have 1 if not 2 left, I also have a load of the UBISOFT demo discs for the playable Lock On demo that Ubi were touting round the shows prior to its actual release... see pic below............ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tried Dl'ing it three times and extracting it with both WinRaR and Winzip, no go at all. Not much interested in Ver. 1 but may try it to see if it's corrupted too.

Yeah, I've got a no-go on my tries to download from the UbiSoft ftp too. Try this link (http://www.pcgameworld.com/download.php/id/2806/folder/demos/filename/il2demov20.zip) for some other servers that host v2. The sunet ftp worked like a charm for me.

I'd like to get my hands on the v1 demo too, just to see what it was like in the beginng of time. Might have it on a PCGamer CD... I'd better check that.

I don't suppose you'd be able to spare one of those press kits, would you? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As long as we're waxing nostalgic, what I'd like to see are the pre-release screenshots and thread transcripts from the old Dogfighter.Com forums, Oleg's first 'official' home. There were some great discussions on the direction this game would take back then. Specifically I'd like a count of how many people said 'way to good to be true, gotta be a hoax', or 'it'll never see the light of day' and 'no way our computers are going to be able to run THAT!'.

Anybody still have Oleg's email newsletters that he sent out to people that requested it from the Bombsaway.Net forums? Mine got lost in a harddrive snafu.

Unfortunatly, I can only find one of the combined IL2FB Lock On press kits, http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I have a few of the Lock On demos though......... I at one time had about 8 of those press kits, but as i said I donated a lot of them to people waiting for FB to come out at the time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And I can only find the one left here.......... which I want to keep.

No problem, I just figured it was worth taking a shot and ask you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Any nice pictures on that disc you'd like to share with us? Or have we already seen them all?

I am thinking about buying FB Gold Ed. I am currently playing the Version 2 demo. Does this demo give a pretty good representation of what FB is like?

You would not be disappointed if you like the demo.

Anyone happens to know the name of that old site that has been closed I think two years ago and was mentioned in the old Mudmovers?.
Very nice missions you could find there. They took place in various theatres of the Eastern Front. They were called: Lvov, Black Sea, Crimea, Stalingrad, Kuban, Dnieper, Bagration and you could choose between the German site or the Russian.
I have them all, and still play them frequently. But helas the site exists no longer and I have forgotten its name and the name of the creator of those fine missions.
Can anyone help?

Indianer.

Its not like u remember it and the TIR doesnt work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif and those big squares in the distance are actually A/C

The origional sounds are much nicer tho it has to be said.

Adriaan_v, it was Eric Cote and his missions were at racesimcentral.

He used the callsign "Hangar" and was one of the first great IL2 missionmakers.

His East Front coops were a staple on Hyperlobby for a long time but not seen much lately with the migration to the West and Pacific fronts.

Somewhere in a dusty , long fogotten pile of old zip disks, are some of the DogFighter threads & posts. Back when a 166mhz system was standard and a 400mhz was a big deal.
Now which one was it ?

Enthor1, €œHangar€it was, callsign €œHangar€ The name I had forgotten, not the missions. Actually I have to carry them out regularly, for instance Caucasus19_P39n.mis.
Thank you very much,

Indianer, I also reinstalled IL2 a week ago and the sounds were a lot better than FB or PF. When you throttle back on the 109 it actually sounds like a real engine winding down. What happened to the sounds. The sim has gotten a lot better but I miss the old sounds to. They just sounded a bit more real in my opinion

I think his site went down because of finances, or a miscommunication with the provider or something. Anyway, it went down and I think that Eric didn't feel like rebuilding.

I have most of his missions along with his accompanying .html. It's mostly organized but somewhat jumbled because he went back over time and updated his missions for FB, then combined several smaller campaigns into large campaigns, etc. He had top-notch screenshots, though, and I remember thinking that his screens captured the essence of IL-2. His sections on Eastern Front history were very informative as well.

If Eric is looking for his old pages and missions, I'd gladly send him what I've got.
