Hope someone may be able to help me.

I experienced some problems with IL-2 on my old P4 1.5G machine, but didn't think I would with my new 'beast'.

Specs:
P4 3.0G
RAM 1.0Mg
Video card - ATI9600XP (?)
Windows XP

I have applied latest patch successfully (thks to guidance from this forum).

Still get black out when very intense action, eg head ons, which never recovers and eventually the plane crashes.

Any suggestions?

Thks

Well, especially in head on attacks, the pilot is vulnerable to instant head kills, resulting in a black sceen...is that what you mean, or a hardware problem??

If your problem is you´re getting kille on head on attacks, I would suggest to break off before the enemy plane starts firing lead into your head... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This happens to me sometimes. At first I thought it was a bug, but when the screen goes black I hit F2 or F3 for an external view and I can watch myself crash with the "Player Killed" message.

I get this bug alot, along with the bug where my plane suddenly burst into flames, or explodes into pieces for no reason when someone is shooting at me. Could we get a PATCH for this bug, please? Its pissing me off... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Sorry, but I have never experienced those kind of "bugs"...But, if someone is shooting at you, depending on the aircraft, it really may burst into flames or explode rather easily...I´m thinking especially of japanese planes, which did not have sealing tanks or apropriate armor platings...In this case, it´s not a bug, but a real feature.

Surly you do not mean blacking out on high G flying?

That's ridiculous!! Why would the plane suddenly do that just because someone is shooting hundreds of high velocity and/or explosive rounds at me? A feature?? Next thing you tell me will be that the game was programmed to make me lose control just because I fly straight up with flaps and landing gear fully extended...

Mate!... your'e either being killed in your seat because you are using a bad approach/tactics to attack an enemy aircraft,(therefore the screen blanks out!)or you are pulling high 'G's, (again the screen starts to go dim, eventualy going completely black) and you fly the aircraft straight into the ground because you have effectively 'blacked out'....
If its not that, you are not being specific enough in explaining your problem...ie, is it hardware, drivers, installation problems??

Regards...Dave S.

Thanks for the tips - and for the debate.

Not blacking out from too many G's. Agree that my head on tactics probably not the percentage play against some of the AI, but some times it is fun...

Never thought of the head shot outcome. May give it a go as suggested by selecting F2.

Downloading updated drivers from ATI, as it seems to fix a freeze problem in Call of Duty.

Thanks again

You have been killed for sure. Avoid head ons.

Head-on they will kill you before you see the bullit (which you won't see because you're already dead http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif ). Don't fly head-on attacks, pull up/roll etc at about 1 km distance...they are aproaching very fast: you are both travelling around 400 km/hr and therefore aproaching each other at a rate of 800km/hr; add to that the speed of the bullets and you get close to the speed of light http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ! Well, maybe not, but too fast to be able to react to seeing the bullets http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

This is by far my favourite first-question-ever thread. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you have to admit it really does have a funny side http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

CaptainMataHari, welcome aboard mate!

An option in the game set-up giving different, multi-cultural visions of an angel at a large set of pearly gates foundered due to programming difficulties. Anyone who can give a pixel-accurate definition of a cubit, or the pitch-range of a celestial harp, please contact the Dev's.
In the meantime we have to settle for the atheists' version http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Roll on the god-mode patch!

I have this bug where bullets slam into the wing of my plane and it comes off, the wing that is, and I crash into the ground. sorry wrong thread.

Unfortunately all users are experiencing that bug. It is really annoying (so called "<span class="ev_code_black">black hole</span>" bug).
Devs said sometime in the past that they wont be able to fix it, it is hard coded in the sim and it would basically required for an FB core to be re-programmed. At that time, community accepted the explanation in a very civil manner.

That is why there is not much complaints around here about that issue. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Head-ons are almost always STUPID.

Do the work to get position before you start hosing away.

Exceptions to this are:
1) Badly outnumbered situations, where you probably HAVE to give up a shot to another plane to get a shot at one of your many tormentors. You need luck to survive a situation like this anyway, so take what you can get.
2) Damage precludes proper maneuvering and the shot presents itself. I wouldn't necessarily go LOOKING to create it if my plane was already banged up
3) Attacks against certain bombers and planes with rear gunners often make a HO a preferred attack profile. Know your enemy.

But, that's about it. Certainly in fighter vs. fighter engagements, you should never PLAN to take a HO shot. It's just stupid, and you are incurring too much risk. Do the work to earn a good, high percentage shot.

I like flying head on in a fighter vs. a Henkel, just to slam a few cannon rounds into the cockpit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif
