OK since i just got this (the original IL2)
i have little idea of what patch i need to get. Since i have the boxed version I guess i should get this one:

released:6.10.2002

IL-2 Sturmovik Upgrade Version 1.1 from Version 1.0 - il2upgrade_1.1a.exe (75 MB)

"This upgrade includes all of the upgrades and patches that have been made available to date and should be used by people who have not already upgraded to Version 1.0.4. It should be installed over the base IL-2 boxed product. "

And then I just download the 1.2 patch right? and i should be set to go?

it would be great if someone could help, thanks

Your on the right track. To get all the patches, install in this order.

1.1a
1.2

There is one for voice pack too, but yopu don't really need it.

also note the voice pack (1.2ov) does NOT replace 1.2 so you must apply the two buzz mentioned first even if you intend to use the voice pack

OK i got the patches and i'll install them later.
I just have another question.

When you play online (which i haven't done yet besides the demos) Is there a way to use the mic for voice communication?

(original IL2)

Yes but the quality is poor.

Most people use Roger Wilco

Teamspeak

or Ventrilo
http://www.ventrilo.com/

There is no standard online for voice comms. Most people on open servers type chat messages. If you join a squadron they will let you know which they use.
