Anything except the Mark IX HF.

The differences in performance between VIII and IX are negligable, and the Mark V is going to be slower no matter what. If you are limited to flying the Mark V in a given scenario, then at low and medium altitude fly the LF version. Fly the F version for higher altitudes (above 3500 meters).

With the IX you can only choose between LF and HF versions. The LF version is go upto 10,000 meters or better. The HF version is poorer at low altitudes but better at 10,000 and higher. The Mark VII is the same story as the IX (except no HF version).

Clipped wings improve roll rate but reduce altitude performance and turn (by a bit) so taking clipped wings for low altitude operations is ok too.

Avoid the seafires though, they seem to handle like bricks to me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

They are like the Mark V...just a bit heavier thanks to all the gear. Oh and twice the cannon ammo. It counts a bit too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

What a shame. The Seafire LF III was supposed to be an awesome performer down low, with very good accelleration. The engine was hot-rodded up, it had 4 prop blades and the twelve-stack exhaust with the Universal carb filter and the 'c' wing, which were both supposed to be very efficient aerodynamically. It should be significantly better than any Mk V version, not vice-versa...

cheers

The Seafire LF is the best! It can easily out-turn MkVIIIs and MkIXs and it's faster and has more ammo than a MkVb. I love the Seafire, its a lovely plane to fly. Its only downside is its lack of speed, it's easily out-done by MkVIIIs and MkIxs in that department.
