After reading some posts by "experts" and "Aces" I tested the sampling rate of 4 mice and TrackIR:

Mouse 1 PS-2 cord: 68Hz
Mouse 2 PS-2 cord IR camera (no ball): 103 Hz
Mouse 3 PS cordless /w ball (no IR camera): 48 Hz

Mouse 4 USB Cordless /w IR camera (no ball): Variable 40-140 hz
TrackIR: variable 50-75 Hz.

Mouse #4 and TrackIR sample at a higher rate the faster you pan your head or move the mouse. With TrackIR if you are panning around A LOT you get a higher sampling rate. If you are in your dead zone and say zoomed in on the reflector site I got sampling rates of 50.

So there you have it: TrackIr samples adequetly and well with the range of most mouse type pointing devices. If you want to duplicate this fpr yourself down this utility:

Keep in mind: test a few times and with TrackIR test different speeds and sample rates. I tested the profile i use in the FB.

with regard to RBJ

he appears to be basing his comments on the mouse-mode trackir in the original iL2 which did have some problems

the only issue I have ever had with trackir in FB is on very very laggy online servers where you ocasionally get a "lag spike" in trackir response

I've never observed that...do you have a track or know of a track...I'd be interested in seeing that. Thanks,
