I was an old school Marvel kid, though I did have a couple of DC series I followed, anyone remember the old Jack Kirby Kamandi series? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But, Marvel had stuff that DC just didnt do, and they made the characters seem "real", plus, they had Savage Sword of Conan, so, nuff said! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That one`s me, and Battle. these comics were where I learned my skills as an artist... moreso even than education. I would copy whole stories graphically. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But i did later get into marvel, specifically the Xmen about the time John byrne was the artist for them. In fact the Phoenix period as shwon in the Xmen III film!

But 2000AD will always reside in my memory.

Hi, my name is Neal and... I read comics.
I was an addiction. I started in 63 on the light stuff, strictly Harveys.
But as I learned more words to read I moved on to... harder and harder comics.
DC and then in 66, sometimes Marvel which was the heavy stuff for me at the
time.
By 1970 I had also read 'underground comics' and discovered how old those were.
I read em all. Even the newspaper strips. If I went somewhere and hadta wait
or it was lunchtime and there was a paper, did I look at the sports first? Or
the front page or even the obits? No, I got my comics fix instead even if it
was only the political cartoons. And no, don't get me started on the moving
ones except to say there's a lot of terrible **** was made and shown!

Somewhere in the 70's I lost my taste for most of it, thank goodness. Except
for a brief fling with Heavy Metal which IMO ran low on material not long after
they started. And the Ripoff Press stuff, sometimes I'd go on a bender and read
a few of those even knowing how bad it rots the brain.

I'm still not 'clean' and will get my blast off a strip or a particularly neat
tale all done out as they say, in graphic novel style. Had they come out with
that term when I was a kid, I'd have quit cold turkey right then and there.
And I must be burned out anyway as I haven't cared to follow even a Marvel plot
in... oh sh__, it's been 30 years easy.

Watch out with that stuff. When I think of the things I could have done with
the money instead! A pack of baseball cards was 5 cents and a comic book was 12!

Spiderman and all the Marvels.

Amassed a collection going all the way back to Spiderman 4...just couldn't afford the first 3.

Now they sit in storage as my kids' college fund.

We kinda' named our 2nd Parker after Peter Parker. I wanted "Pete" after Pete Townshend. Wife said no...
I said "c'mon...Peter Townshend, Peter Parker...great name."
She said "Parker it is".

Good thing he was born before my Il2 addiction/affliction.

Hate to try to explain why my 2nd son was named "Ilyushin"

Ehh....not really I just had a messed up childhood.....As an example Robert Crumb's "Zap" comix I saw when a kid oversea's yet never saw a regular comic book. Really a pity too in that I couldn't read till roughly 9 years ago so the pictures would have been right up my alley.....
