As a boy in the fifties my father would take me down to the dock at Pembroke to watch these huge wonderful aircraft taking off, During the war Pembroke Dock was the largest flying boat base in the world,check out the link.

If you were there in 52-53, one of the aircraft you saw taking off may have had my own father as its W/OP.
