O.K., I'm about a week away from taking the widescreen plunge. Opted for a Dell 2407WFP Ultrasharp as the 2707WFP was just too much frikkin money and the 24" has gone on sale...again.

I've seen a number of threads/posts regarding 'issues' with widescreens and such, but was wondering if there could be a sticky with the simplest yet complete setup directions for those first-time users.

Afterall, widescreen is the future and the future is now what with prices dropping so dramatically. The 24" Dell I'm getting has dropped almost $400 in the last 4 months while getting an upgrade in the process.

Can someone please post the conf.ini lines and changes to apply for proper widescreen setup?

Thanks,

TB

Yes, I have a 24 inch CRT myself, change to the resolution you want to use as blindpugh stated. I have noticed that some resolutions dont work for me, if you find this as well go to a smaller resolution (the far away plane pixels will show up better anyways as long as your monitor doesnt wash out at a smaller res). I find it very important to go to a much wider FOV, simply because IL2 cuts off the tops and bottoms and keeps the sides a similar format as a regular monitor. I am using the 2nd to widest FOV option as my main view, and the center part is very similar to the default view on a regular monitor, with alot more view to the sides. The only downside of the widescreen format is that part of the map is cut off and you cant tell what sectors are exactly what on the maps, i think you can only see the letters, not the numbers.

[window]
width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

Just replace width and height values with whatever you going to use for your ingame resolution(Mine is 1680x1050 as you see). Nothing else is needed.

Keep in mind tho, every time you save some configuration using IL2Setup, it will overwrite [window] section... so you need to redo the changes for widescreen every time.

Thanks for your replies guys.

Ivan, that's what I was looking for. Also, once I get my stuff running well, I ALWAYS backup my conf.ini, users and paintschemes...and rarely (if ever) dip back into IL2setup. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

bumpage for 2 more questions:

1. Can someone please post a scale of the most common widescreen resolutions (i.e for 4:3 they would be 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960 etc,..)?

2. Is there really any difference in the resolutions of 16:10 and 16:9 monitors?

Thanks

What sort of widescreen? 16:10 or 16:9. Typically 16:9 is a TV resolution whereas 16:10 is the domain of monitors, I don't think you can get a 16:10 TV. 16:10 = 1920×1200, 1680×1050, 1440×900,1280×800

A 16:9/1080 res would be 1900×1080 while a similar 16:10 res is 1900×1280. There is quite a difference in viewable area.

*edit*
Your Dell will be 16:10.

Thanks Mondo. The monitor I''ve ordered is a Dell 2407WFP Ultrasharp and I'm just trying to get my information straight before it arrives probably this Friday. Doing the simple math shows it to be a 16:10 since it's native resolution is 1920x1200.

I have a widescreen laptop, but it's at it's highest res...1280x800 and I was curious what higher settings I could expect to be available or at least what were the settings between 1280x800 and 1920x1200.

Thanks
