This program is GREAT!!! Read the documentation carefully...take your time... I am currently working on a FB AI commands profile. The program is really well done. The best thing about it is that it was created by one of US. So to all you CFS guys who want to mod stuff? (And this is in no way intended to start a disrespectful tirade here.. I welcome you all... except one of you... and Ill leave him nameless.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif) This is the kind of modding that gets done around here, since the code is closed to the sim, so if you are serious about improving things.... put your thinking caps on if you have the necessary skills and kick in http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif. There is so much talent in this community. I have never used Voice Commander... or Game Voice.... I did try SHOOT, but I didnt like it.. it was just too cumbersome. This thing blows SHOOT away. It has a GUI... it is simple to use once you gtet the hang of it.... which I am still doing but I have tested it out with just a wingman and it works flawlessly. Just make sure you have the voice recognition software from MS and take the time to train it. The programming is rather detailed because you have to program in each keystroke. The "push to deactivate vac" key should be hooked to your comms key. WEhen that key is pressed vac will turn off... as soon as you release it...vac is back. I also like the toggle vac on and off keys there Shifty..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif. I thought that was what the activate deactivate vac keys were...

Again... this is a great program and it will greatly enhance your simming.

GREAT WORK SHIFTY!!!!!! ~!S!~ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

In fact I am so impressed with this software that I am going to sticky this for a week.

For those of you who for whatever reason never used voice control in this sim this is the ticket right here. Once profiles start coming out for it it will be much easier to deal with.

Just downloaded it. I have no use for it but a good few of my squaddies will certainly welcome this well laid out program.
THX very much.

Nero unless you are already using some kind of voice recognition think of it..... no more typing!!!. I am also working on a AI commands/Online chat profile.. actually Ill just copy the AI commands profile and add online chat with some basic stuff..... Good kill salute.... XXX watch your six... bandits 6 low..... my army... all.... etc... just some generic stuff.. but for me the goodie is with the AI offline.... "Tower vector to base...." "Chocks away!!"..... yowzaaa...! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I want to keep the AC controls on my sticks where they belong.. but this is the thing hthat will sever that last link between me and my keyboard when Im flying.. I can put it under my desk now and leave it there.

Looks cool...how will I use this in conjunction with TeamSpeak....if I have TS send on button push, I can leave VAC on voice-activated...?

Hmmmm....any insights?

Yes, you could keep VAC active with TS, but you run the risk of activating commands when talking on TS. There's a switch in VAC you can set to the same as your TS PTT, when TS is active, VAC will not be, when TS is not active, VAC will be.

I should of said I have no use for it at the moment, as I have everything I need configed through my hotas, but as you have clearly explained there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.
Its a great program, and well worth investing time in it to get it configed to your personal liking. We have a few guys in our squad that have old sticks, not enough buttons, no space for everything on the desk etc, and this proggy will be a godsend for them.
I can say nothing else except praise the folks that made it.
TOP JOB WELL DONE.

If you set your push to deactivate VAC key to the same one as your comms key when you are on comms VAC will be deactivated.. I tested it last night. Works flawlessly. Nero I have a HOTAS setup too.. all of my commands are on my sticks.... and I mean everything...... but now I can command the AI with my voice...... with my MSFFB/X45/CHPedals/TIR/VAC setup I think Im about as immersive as Ican get without being strapped in.

I may be a little dense, but I cannot get this working. Testing within the builder says it is OK. Is there a problem with wireless keyboards? I'm using MS Wireless Desktop 3.0.
Could someone post a link to a simple profile so I can DL and give it a try. Seems very useful, esp for those 20-30 presses for gear up in the hand crank gear planes. I've tried testing by using notepad, and within the game, no go, I'm probably missing something simple.

The wireless keyboard shouldn€t be a problem.

One of the most common stoppers seems to be the Profile Activation keys. Try setting the Push to Activate and Push to Deactivate to €œNONE€ and trying the profile in VAC System again.

If you are still having problems, look in the help file for support and send me an email.

I've done the help file several times. I have succeded a little more. Only by setting the activation key to 'none'. Also, the deactivation key seems to have a delay, i.e., if I hold down the deactivation key, say a command and release the key, VAC picks it up. I have to hold down the deactivation key down for an extra second or so. We talk a lot on comms (ventrilo) and I generally do not use headphones so I'm afraid VAC will be constantly picking up conversations. Is there another method of activating, I've been trying F10 11 & 12, should other keys be more receptive?

Sorry for the confusion, I suggested the help file to find my email address to received more help.

I use Ventrilo and have assigned the middle mouse button as my PTT in Ventrilo, assigned a joystick key to middle mouse, then assigned middle mouse button to VAC's Push to deactivate. I have not seen the delay that you are talking about. You can try to raise the process priority in the VAC System and see if that will help.

I had the same problem.. make sure you test your profile. Make sure your voice activation is set...... did you go through the whole training thing? Make sure your durations for each command is set right..... I set mine to 100,1 & 1. Make sure you go to the task bar and load the profile..(Right click load profile) make sure after you do that that you turn VAC on (right click.. turn VAC on should be available now... or you could set a key.. )and I set mine up so that when I push the button it deactivates it.... the push to activate is set to none. Like I said i use the same key that I use for comms so when I use comms it deactivates VAC.

I seem to have most things working now, but I still cannot define an actvation key that works. I have not been able to get the middle mouse button to work either. I noticed something interesting on the keyboard monitor thing. I have "gear up" and "gear down" set with 55 repeats (ALT X and ALT Z) to raise and lower the manual gear planes' gear. During testing I watch the keyboard thing and it alternates between ALT x then x then ALT x, in other words the ALT key only activates every other time. But with 55 repeats it finishes the job. This is a super program and I would like to donate, do you have a PayPal account? When I was programming for the C64 I got donations from all over the world, enjoyed the recognition more than the money, but the money wasn't too bad either. Thanks again for an excellent program, I'll get the hang of it soon, it's hard to teach this OLD dog new tricks.

I'm glad to hear you are up and running. Can you email me your profile and I'd be happy to look it over for you and see if I need to change something.

I'm an old dog, so I can teach you some old tricks. :-) My first computer was the TRS-80 Level I, And my favorites were the C64 and Amiga.

VAC is free, but if you would like to donate I do have a Paypal donate button on the download page.

One more thing, I use the F5 key for External Padlock Enemy, but when I try to assign it using the Extend Key, from the dropdown list, it doesn't seem to work, the keyboard tester shows a CTRL O, which I do not have for any actions. I think my wireless keyboard may have some weird things in it. I missed the paypal link, will do. I was able to add all the radio commands supplied by DDastardly (thanks lots)using copy and paste in Notepad, as I didn't want to redo all of my commands. It worked fine even though it's an XML file.
BTW did you fly Fighter Duel on the Amiga, spent mucho time and money on long distance calls with that one !

Using my Amiga I spent my money on Air Warrior using GEnie. :-)

I suppose if the wireless keyboard is using drivers and remapping keys, that would be a problem. What kind of keyboard is it and I'll see what I can find out.

Only a very few of the early German aircraft had manual steering. Every German aircraft after mid-1939 was voice steered. They moved away from manual steering b/c the steering wheel was large which made it difficult to bail out when the check engine light came on. Also, the power steering pump was heavy and the reservoir often had to be topped up in flight.

I've also never heard of a flight leader typing commands to his wingmen (TAB+2+4)

This has great potential for both online and offline people... Control of your wingmen by voice. Can't wait to try it out.

Hey Shift_E, I've been trying to build some custom input devices but I can't get the game to recognize any keystrokes sent via the sendinput() API. I know it's sending the keystroke b/c windows apps (notepad, etc.) register it. If you have a few minutes, please let me know how you're sending the keystrokes to the game.

On another note, I bet I spent more playing AW than you did! GEnie was $6/hour for me on a 2400 baud modem that cost $300. From the time I started circa de '89 (or thereabouts) to when I quit in '96 or so, I probably unloaded about $15,000 +/- some change on services specifically acquired to play AW.

Oh Airwarrior and GEnie, I drove around a tank for many hours. We had an AW convention here in conjunction with the national free day thing one year. That's where we saw the demo of the first Fighter Duel, blew everybody away. Also went the next year to Houston for the convention of free flying for AW, by that time we were into nationwide phoneline H2H FD Tournaments, quite a few of those guys are here with IL2, most went to FA and AH though. Will spend this day with VAC and try to finish sorting out my problems. My wireless desktop is the M$ Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard and the M$ Wireless Explorer Mouse 2.0
Thanks for your support.
The check's in the mail. (jsgary)

Fun commands I've used so far:
Engine One = starts (or stops) engine, copilot replys "roger"
repeat for engine two three and four.
Feather One = feathers prop on engine one, etc
gunner = jumps to next gunner position
pilot = jump right back to pilots seat
gear up = 55 clicks to raise manual gear
gear down = 55 clicks to lower gear
PS my wife keeps hollerin' "you talking to me?"
She really gets weird when I'm training the speech module reading Aesop's Fables etc.
I'm glad I'm retired, I'd hate to have to go to work with this new program sitting here idle.

First off, thanks so much for your hard work SHift_E and for being so generous.

Now the good news/bad news...

Good news is that the interface and setup was a piece of cake - except it keeps hearing "talks" for "chocks" but whatever...

My bad news is that VAC doesn't seem to share well with TeamSpeak. If I start TS first, then I get an error messege when I start VAC: something like "SAPI failed to initialize. Program may not work".

If I start VAC first, then start TS, the mic is disable, even when I push the VAC deactivate button.

Anybody have a suggestion?

Offline of course, all is cool ! My commands so far:

Fire - Fire Extinguishers
Start - Toggle Engine (maybe a dangerous idea - don't want to trip this accidentaly)
Feather - Feather Props
Nav - Navigation Lights
Landing - Landing Lights
Lights - Cockpit Lights
Hook - Toggle Arrestor Hook
Score - Show Scores (definitely fun to shoot somebody down online and say "SCORE!")
Canopy - Open/Close Canopy
Talks (Chocks) - Toggle Chocks
Fold - Toggle Fold Wings
Prop - Manual Prop Pitch (since it defaults to auto)

Hmm.....think that's about it. Thanks again Shift_E.

If you are on Windows 2000 the OS has a hard time sharing devices. I don't use TS on Windows XP, so I can't answer if the two programs will get along.

Thats one of the things I like about this program. It seems to work well with XP and TS... I have no problems. If it thinks you are saying talks when you say chocks just do another training session. That was one of the things I didnt like about SHOOT.... it seemed that no matter how much I trained the thing it still wouldnt do right for me. This however is fantastic.

I just need to find a list of the [TAB] menu when in game... That's all I really need to make this game more immersive for me... To "talk" to my wingmen, rather than type at them.... That would be really great...

Anyone have an idea where I could find a list of those commands? Or will I have to go into the game and write down the commands myself? Either way, I'll have them... just didn't know if they were already noted somewhere...

I just finished version 1.2.9 and updated the web site.

Added a duplicate Action button in the Builder.

Added Number Pad keys (how did I forget this). I think a better way of handling key qualifiers and extended keys.

Going to add the ability to change background and text colors for the data fields in the Builder.

Adding the ability to send the activation phrases to Notepad, in case you wish to print them out.

Added sort to the Action list.

Enjoy,

The more I fiddle with this the more I see it as a MUST have.. especially if you are into offline flying.. but even online it can be very usefull too. Offline with TIR it is an amazing thing.. it totally transforms the sim, which is a masterpiece in its own right.... Anyone who flies this sim.. even if they have a very elaborate setup and can build missions extremely well...... will be impressed with the combo of this and the UQMG. These two pieces of software alone take this sim to another level entirely. For newcomers? AN ABSOLUTE MUST.

Try gear down when you want to raise it (and gear up when you want to lowerhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

In some types (at least) I believe these commands have been swapped

Thanks for a great software Shift_E.

Ive downloaded a full 1.2.6 (?) version and have a great time using it. Ive mapped command to control viewing (left, right, up, down and front) from inside the cockpit. It works very well although the program sometimes mistaken the word "flaps" with "left" and some other minor misinterpretations but ive found by having a constant pronounciation resolve most of the problems.

It was a worthy big download but after seeing you have updated your program, should I download the full version again or just the smaller program?

In other words, after installing the 1st (34mb ?) download, do I already have the speech recognition pack installed that I only have to download the core VAC (2,9mb) update program or do I have to re-download the bigger one?

Thank you very much again.

The 34 meg download contains the Speech Engine and once installed all you need to do is download the smaller update version. I'll add something to the web site to explain that.

If you go to the web site and visit the VAC Tips and follow some of them it will really help with the false recognition. I was having the same problem with "flaps" and "slaps". I don't have the problem any more.

Glad to hear it's a worthy addition.

Hi Shift E,
I want to first say thank you for a wonderful program. I got it installed and set up and it works wonderful. I have one question though. I want to be able to bind the F6 key to a command(enemy). I use the F6 alot during play and want to be able to voice command that, but when I set it up, it will not work. It's like all the F buttons will not work with voice command. Am I doing something wrong? I set it up just like the others and I only have on command which is set for the F6 button, but no go. I thank you for your time.

Versions before 1.3.0 the function keys and numeric pad didn't work. They should be working in version 1.3.0. If they aren't working for you in 1.3.0 then email me and we'll get it sorted out. I've been using F3 as fly by and F1 to reenter the cockpit.

OH MAN !!!
Be sure everyone knows about 1.3.0 !!!
1.2.9 gave me fits last night and all this morning !!!!!
I'd say 'gear' and my Windows Media Player would open!!!
I'd say 'drop bombs' and Excell would open. It was driving me nuts ! Reinstalled 3 times, at least, cleaned register (it was time anyway), deleted everything even closely related.
I was getting desperate, swapping keyboards, changing drivers, tried to restore to previous point, would not work. This is one time I wish I would've been working instead of retired, I wouldn't have had all this time on my hands.

EVERYONE ! GET 1.3.0 STAT !!

GREAT PROGRAM

Anyone have an idea where I could find a list of those commands? Or will I have to go into the game and write down the commands myself? Either way, I'll have them... just didn't know if they were already noted somewhere...

DDastardlySID has created a very nice and complete profile with all the TAB commands. It's on the VAC web site under User Profiles.

this is exactly the kind of program I have been looking for, I assume this will work with any sim or game? could be real handy in the racing games as well.

even if its IL2 specific I am looking forward to setting this up and giving it a spin.

It should work in any game that you would use the keyboard to issue commands.

You need to run VAC System, load the profile by right-clicking on the microphone icon in the system tray, then select "VAC On" using the same method. VAC should be ready to go.

Bearcat,

Posted this on the VAC forum, but I see some are here are having success with VAC/TS working together.

Any tips on getting VAC to work with TS. I am running a win xp system with service pack 1.
VAC works ok offline for me but I can't get it to work while using TS.

I'm using the profile listed on the VAC page. I have "voice activate command" set to none and "voice deactivate" set to my F7 key which is the same key I use to transmit on TS.
I run VAC, load the prfile and then turn it turn VAC on. Load TS and only TS will work.

Any advice would be much appreciated. This looks like a very useful program, especially if I can get the VAC/TS problem solved.

Thanks

I have my CTRL key as my push to talk for TS and that is also the key I use to deactivate VAC. I know that the CTRL key is not defined in the "Push to Activate/Deactivate menu but if you do this you can insert the command to use it in there anyway ---->

This is at the very bottom of the profile in its original state:

<!-- Voice Activation Command Set
-->
<set key="NONE" vackey1="NONE" vackey2="NONE" off="NONE" />
</profile>

change that to this:
<!-- Voice Activation Command Set
-->
<set key="NONE" vackey1="NONE" vackey2="NONE" off="CTRL" />
</profile>

and even though the key wont be shown it will work as described.

AS far as the procedure I use to get it to work with TS... I turn on TS first, then I load up VAC,then I load the profile, then I turn on VAC. Once in a mission if I am just flying and not on comms VAC is always working..... once I press my CTRL key to talk on comms VAC is deactivated temporarily. Hope that helps... I find that it is best to turn VAC on and leave it on and use the push to Activate/Deactivae commands.... there is a slight delay when you turn VAC on and off plus if you have it set as turn VAC off/on instead of Activate/ Deactivate it will toggle from one state to another... with the afforementioned delay. Push to ACtivate/Deactivate is instantaneous.

Please note.... this topic will be featured for 2 more days.. then it will be unfeatured and added to UBI Razz' (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=4871047252) thread....

Thanks for the info on set up Shift_E.

This program is a great leap forward in immersion. I can now actually communicate with my pilots and ground control, and it is such a tickle to start my engines by voice.

My only problem is that my apartment door is right across from the elevator door for my floor and this is going to confirm with everybody that I am crazy, and spend way too much time playing this game.

"chocks away"

Thanks for a wonderful addition to an already great game.

Thanks Bearcat. It now appears to work as long as I start VAC first, then TS. Will give it the full test tonight.

Something in the bottom of my original profile may have been screwy. I copied and pasted your info into my profile and that seemed to solve the problem. Also good to know I can map the "deactivate key" to any key instead of the default keys only.

Skyfoxx,

I also was having problems getting VAC to work with TS. I would do the mic check and everything was clear adn fine. But then I would start TS adn do the mic check again adn it was all arbled. Turned out TS somehow decided to use a defaul driver vs using my soundcard for all the incoming and outgoig actions. As soon as I selected my soundcard then it seems to work normally.

Hope this might help you.

The Amiga was a fine computer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just finished with VAC upgrade version 1.3.5

Allow a new profile load to be triggered in game by voice command.
Allow multiple or alternate phrases for each Action.
Allow command line input of profiles when VAC is started.
Added mouse click events.
Added option to mass change duration or pause values.
Improved key support to include extended keys.
Added ALT and CTRL to the Push to Activate/Deactivate key select.

To upgrade just install new version over the current version.

Hi all,
My new profiles are now available for download from the VAC website (http://mysite.verizon.net/res19wz2/VAC/user_profiles.htm). They cover all the IL2/FB/AEP/PF radio commands and just about every other action in the sim that you could conceivably want to use voice commands for.

The zip includes a ReadMe which describes how to import and set up the profiles, and contains a table listing each phrase and their corresponding output keys.

I've also included my settings.ini file from IL2/FB/AEP/PF and a set of basic VAC response WAVs. See the ReadMe for more details - it contains info you'll need to know to use the profiles successfully.
Cheers,
DickDastardly

PS If anyone fancies making some more VAC response WAVs to replace my very basic ones, then I'd be happy to update the profiles to accomodate them - it would be great if we could have sets with British/American/Russian/German etc accents for the crew responses (and with different voices for each crew member). The script would be something along these lines:

-"Bombadier reporting"
-"Nose gunner here"
-"Top turret tracking"
-"Tail gunner reporting in"
-"Right waist gunner here"
-"Left waist gunner reporting in"
-"Ventral gunner reporting"
-"Rear gunner here"
-"Bombs dropped"
-"All bombs released"
-A bailout response - "She's had it" etc
