Hi,

I haven't played SH3 for awhile but was inspired to sail a few missions by the great SH4 in SH3 mod.

I prefer not to add any of the supermods but would like some new targets. Are new ships available for the (almost) stock SH3? If so, where?

I've made a mod to my personal liking, with some GW ships, and scripted them into the random campaign. Works so far, and they sail in convoys and on their own, as I hoped. I will upload it to filefront in a bit.

Edit:
Before I do that, can anyone teach me how to upload folders to Filefront? For some reason it won't let me upload the whole data filder, but i can only upload individual things like campaign.RND http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

You can't upload folders to Filefront, you need to put them in Zip folders(Archives) with either WinRar or 7zip. This also compresses your files for a faster download.

When you have a folder you want to upload(Using WinRar as an example), right click on the folder you want zipped, and select "Add To Archive". Rar format is already selected, so just click OK and your done.

From Filefront, do as you normally do with single files. After upload is complete, be sure to delete the zipped folder from your hard drive to save space.

Thanks, Tuddley! It is now uploaded. I only so far added the Catham troop transport, ore carrier, whale factory and Pyro ships. They are a real pain to script into the campaign, so I gave up after 4 types. But these seem (to me at least) the most interesting of the new ships, anyway.

Thanks foehammer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif So these files just get copied into 'data' in the stock SH3 and voila, I'll come across the new ships on patrol, no GWX required, no existing ships/files overwritten?

@ Foehammer - You are welcome buddy

@ Doug - If you have JSGME, you can place the entire folder(GWX Ship Mod) directly into the Mods folder, it's JSGME ready http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

BTW, those are my favorite ships. I find a lot of them near BF17.

As soon as Hansolo finishes WAC 3.0, maybe I'll try to extract all of those ships for you also. WAC files are stock compatible. Or, maybe I'll look at the WAC 2.15 files I have at Filefront.

Alas, new ship failure. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

When the mission loading bar finishes, the game CTD's. By messing with the files I've tracked the problem down to the new ship file: Campaign_RND.mis

If I replace the old one, the game runs again. (All other files are installed, no problem.)

Any suggestions?

PS: Tuddley. I don't have/use JSGME

That is so weird. Cause it worked for me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

In that case, here is what you can do.
When you have 2 hours to kill, open the campaign_RND.mis that you have with mission editor.
In there, you can open all random convoys (there is a lot) and add whatever shps you want to there. It does take a while, but it surely makes the game better afterwards :P But the ships should work

Very strange, I have downloaded the file too, because GWX possibly won't work on my outdated home computer and had no problem exchanging files with stock SH3 1.4b. Are you sure you have version 1.4b installed doug.d?

PS: Thx for the nice mod foehammer-1, improves stock SH3 a lot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Doug, I'm just wondering if you have a clean SH3 install or not. Cause I have a feeling that other mods that mess with these files and that rely on those files staying as they are can cause problems. For instance, when I tried to install the Campaign_RND.mis from WAC, it also crashed, about when I left port.

I know you don't have any supermods, but did you install anything smaller?

I have a number of small tweaky type mods installed over the years, as well as the sh4 in sh3 mod.

What's the damage here, if the new ships aren't in the .mis file then they're not in the game?

Edit: Yup, 1.4b

Basically, if you put in just the ships, then they WILL be in the game. However, they will only sail alone, spawning randomly.

The .mis file allows them to sail as part of a convoy. I added a few ships to every convoy, with certain % chance that they will spawn (as if, you may find 2 empire celt tankers in one convoy, and none in the next, coming from same spot.

Went on a mission, chasing down a dozen or so single contacts, but all stock ships so far.

Oh, Doug, I just thought of something. How did you install the thing? I assume you made a backup of your original file, then overwrote it?

Now i'm not a computer genius, but try the following. Make a backup of your original RND file. Now delete it from the Campaign folder. And now paste my version. And see if that helps!

I just renamed the original file and pasted the new one in, no overwriting.

You reckon I could find some new single ships if I patrol long enough?
