Scan the servers down HyperLobby and you will see that the servers with the most flyers are usually the open pit servers. I prefer closed pit myself, as it eliminates ridiculous deflection shooting and makes ya work for the kill. Plus, closed pit gives a pilot a chance to use real life maneuvers to escape a bogey on their six.

With that said, I fly all servers from no pit/externals to all switches left. There is fun at every level of this game and no pit/externals is fun for me because you see him, he sees you and when you still can outmaneuver and gun him down, there is a certain satisfaction. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

"All switches left" requires more flying around and technology advantages abound. Don't let anyone tell you any different. Better graphics, TiR, huge monitors all help immensely in "All switches left". Although, there will be several who follow this post with, "All I have is minimal hardware and I have no problems...bla, bla, bla." At least in Open pit/externals, everybody is on the same playing field.

In the end, it all boils down to you having fun playing the game the way you want to play it with other like-minded individuals. Pssst, that's why we have switchable settings. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If I don't have the cockpit on, I cannot orient myself worth a damn. The artificial horizon is nice, but so is the 'glance at the scenery and know when it's time to add more rudder' approach

For me, since I am interested in machinery and the historicl context at least as much as the actual blowing-up-of-things (which is, let's face it, fun 100% of the time), I need the cockpit on. I like the twirly things twirling when I add trim, and I like the pushy things pushing when I add rudder. I like the gunsights and I even enjoy the stupid cockpit framing being in the way sometimes. My personal feeling is that without the cockpit, certain things are compromised to the point at which the sim would be valueless to me without it.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I used to play both, open pit quit a bit but since I got TrackIR 4 Pro, two weeks ago, I can't fly open pit worth of peanuts. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif I had tons of fun on open pit but is too much hassle to fly with trackIR in no cockpit game.
To be honest I don't miss it that much.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Okay so when 46 comes out I was thinking I'll also upgrade my controls to a HOTAS system... now I know a great many of you recommend the CH gear... but my problem is that I want a force feedback stick... and unless I'm very much mistaken no one currently makes a FFB HOTAS system.

So I'll probably go for the CH throttle, but I was hoping you fine lot would be able to recommend me some good FFB sticks to go with it. I'd like to be able to buy it new too, so no used e-bay stuff for me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

thanks to everybody in advance!

oh and I don't have a gameport... so it'll have to be a USB stick.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In the years I've had Il-2, I've probably flown without the cockpit for less than half an hour. The cockpits are so pretty, why would you want to remove them??<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

A. Unless I'm recording for a movie or screenshot.

My son (6 yrs old) likes playing in F8 mode best, though when he's in the cockpit he prefers "no pit".

I tell him only n00bs play with no pit, but for some reason he doesn't care... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

<span class="ev_code_white">Oleg: I think players should upgrade their PC after the release of Storm of War: The Battle of Britain, but not now. Minimum system would be probably like last year good system for IL-2 series. The simulation has gone from what was to be a study sim involving one aircraft to a real monster anthology of WWII aviation. The engine has been stretched to fit multi-engined bombers, aircraft that are linked (such as the Mistel and the TB-3/I-16 combinations), aircraft carriers, runway cratering, working searchlights, etc.

Iv always flown with the pit on, it always seemed to be the most fun way to play http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif,

I started a similar thread a few month's ago and was more then a bit disapointed to find out that a LOT of ppl flew with pit off whe given the chance http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif.
dont get me wrong im a big beliver in each to his/her own but to me its soooo much cooler to have a cockpit around you when playin a flight sim(hence the whole "simulator" bit,as in "simulating" real life as much as possible)

If i wanted easier game play I'd re-install Blazing angels again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.
